cant do that youd be in a hurry to fly one day and put your own tires out.

Time for hidden security cameras. Videotape evidence for the local law enforcement types. Well that, and caltrops all over the runway for their next excursion. ATV tires are pretty darned expensive.

(For those who missed it, that last bit (caltrops) was tongue-in-cheek and not meant as a serious suggestion.)

I thought putting spike strips around the entire field would be fun
You could get the war bird guys you know to come over to fly when you spot the freeloaders and let them run down the offenders dog fight style. Of course you would have to be sure that no one could possibly be injured.

Shoot their planes down with paint ball guns. It is an AMAapproved activity. Well, maybe the AMAassumes willing targets.

Hold it pal, you make to much sense to be saying anything here. You keep that up and you will be a marked man. You know about the 10% that do all the work? How about the 90% but fly, or is that complain?
Yes, I know the 10% that works and the 90% that don't and complain. I know them by name.

RE: ace Guppy rc plansHi guys: Just wondering if anyone has built the Ace Guppy from Dave Fritzke's plan service. I just built one and after about 8 crashes, I figured out the parameters it requires to fly beautifully. Just would like to discuss it if anyone is interested. Thanks, tlarimo

Foodstick, remember the series"Have Gun, Will Travel" ? Well, I will make my A-10 gattlin' gun mobile, give me a call if ya have any problems. I'm glad that six feet of water is gone, sounds like the Multi is still a go, hope to see ya there.
Yes, I know, this isn't on topic, but this thread has drifted so far off topic, I didn't think anyone would notice.

Default AMA membership

Do you have an exclusive lease? We can lease land in state parks (most are 99 year leases) that in essence carry the weight of public property.
Not clear on the specifics of your field.

I am not sure how an "AMA sanctioned field" can exist on public land and keep non-members off it.
Isn't that like a park that only allows "X club members" to drive snowmobiles there? Or a township only allowing AAA members to drive on the roads?
AMA is not the law anywhere in the USA.

Correct AMA is not required to fly R/C in the US however there are a few things to remember.

1. Flying at a non AMA ( FRIA ) site with a model over 250 grams you are required to have a RID module.
2. Flying at a non AMA site, you are required to establish and maintain a safety line to keep non participants from entering your flying area.
3. You are required to follow any local laws pertaining to flying models at your location of choice.

Regarding AMA clubs operating on leased public property.

When an AMA club leases the land from the city, county or state they become the tenant of that property legally and that gives them the right to establish rules as they seem fit. In most cases the lease agreement will dictate that any persons flying at the site must have AMA insurance to do so. The lease also gives the club rights to have anyone removed from the property for any reason, AMA member or not. Most clubs do allow any AMA member to fly as a guest but it’s best to contact a club officer prior to inquire about their guest policy. Very few will ask you pay a small fee for day use or require an established club member to sponsor your visit.

Exactly as Speed said.

The club I belong to has an exclusive 99 year lease of a parcel of State land, and the State has condoned our full use and control of the land. The club has bylaws, of course, one of which is that everyone who operates an RC model there have a current AMA membership, and be either a club member or a guest of a club member (who themself is also a current AMA member). And yes, the State not only condones the AMA member thing, THEY require it in the lease, as it protects THEM (the State) from liability through the AMA insurance.

So, while the one post newb who stated "AMA is not the law anywhere in the USA" may think they're being cute playing with words, at our club having an AMA membership IS the law, and we have STATE permission, in writing, to have the REAL law (the police) escort anyone off of the field who does not comply with ALL of our bylaws, including having a valid AMA membership being one of them.

What are your thoughts about this 14 year old thread topic concerning the protection of your land?
Or is the fact that the OP, who is now banned indicate the topic was for the amusement of a troll, and it's best to let sleeping dogs lie?

We are constantly finding someone flying that is not a member nor desires to join a club-Short of putting a chain up and locking it down, would you think signs indicating in our covered pit area would help deter this or would it cause someone to be offended and cause vandalism.

I have found several guys flying and they are established in the rc arena-in other words they should know better. I have given them applications to join and invited to come back with the completed application and this still continues. Our dues are less than $50.00 per year with covered pits and 50 acres to fly over and a 700 foot by 125 foot grass runway.

We are a new club and our monies are limited but we are growing with our roster at 56 members and we stated 01/01/10

thanks for any insight you could give me-jmc

Hi J330,

The OP of this thread, PLANE JIM, whose opening post I quoted above your's, is not presently banned here

(not being a smartazz or know it all here, but figured Jim would not want to be said to have been banned, when he still is a member in good standing here)

IMO it’s better to put out correct information on the topic.

Sorry, I meant to point out dbcisco
Thank you for the correction.
14 years sure changed a lot of things in this hobby. I wonder if those trespassers are even in the hobby anymore, solving that problem all on its own?

Good point. However we really don’t know who is reading these posts nor how long they have been in the hobby. This forum gets many more readers than it does participants. For this reason I deemed it necessary to include current information.

I have always been more of a reader than a poster on all forums I am a member of.
