RE: Redwing 50cc Sboch
Good video Tom I know the Sboch can do a lot more than we can do with it. It`s to bad we don`t live closer to some real good flyers. It was a bit windy and cool but the Sboch and YDA-56 preformed perfect.

Pretty good flying! I told you it ends up tail heavy. Did you put the batteries all the way in the nose already?
It looks like the wind caught it mainly. You really have to have some throttle management, but the great thing is it never tip stalls. you can float in and make it looks like a full scale aircraft the way it lands

We have plans on moving the batterie in front of the spar for the next step. We both liked the tail heavy feel but it needs a little taming. As you will see in the next video, Bob got the hang of landing it. We both did a lot of great flying but didn't get some of the good stuff recorded. Nether one of us is good with the camera. Bob gets a little exited when you put a camera in his hand but he is like an Ice cube when he is flying.
As far as the initial balance . I did pay attention to what you said but the balancer showed where to put the batterie. So I put it there for starters.

BEAUTIFUL! Even with that strong wind at the end he handled it perfectly. It is a great flying plane! Hope he Bob shares plenty of stick time with ya!
didn't belive me on the CG huh? It likes to have it's CG close to the LE to fly well. You'd think it would be nose heavy when you get it in the ideal spot, but it flies great with it close to the front.

on the dle-55 i used evolution 50 mm standoffs one 1/8 wood spacer and glued the 1/8 da pattern on the firwall to get a 2-1/4 spacing in turn gave me a 1/8 gap between the spinner and cowl the stock dle standoffs are 2-5/8 long and would have had a 1/4 to 3/8 gap at the spinner

RE: Redwing 50cc Sboch
i measured the total length for the evolution standoff is 2" actually plus the thickness of the wood spacers gave me a 2-1/4 total length which in turn gave me an 1/8" gap at the spinner!!! the standard measurement for the stock dle standoffs is 2-5/8 that gave it a 3/8" between the cowl and spinner!!! then had a choice to make!!! leave it and use it, or rework it and make it look good at the same time!!! i chose the latter !!!!! i wondering if the measurements for the spacing works better with the 3-w since they furnished 2 templates??? i have had worse issues with an arf ,so far this is the only thing i have found!!!! i was gonna use the standoffs from psp but didn't want to wait !!!!!!!!

RE: Redwing 50cc Sboch
We took the SBOCH out again today really good weather. The batteries were moved infront of gas tank. I think it flew better and landed a whole lot easier. Maybe Old Tom should to listen to what Tim told him. He, He I believe we put six ten minute flights on it today. Uses about 12oz. for 10 minutes.

Yeah I should have listened. The plane is set up Neutral on a 45 degree inverted climb. Flies great.
Older then me Bob did a great hover that must have lasted a minute.[sm=thumbs_up.gif] I've known him since the mid 80s. That was the best hover he ever did. We also did some really awesome Harriers. I think we are going to learn how to 3D with this plane.

so what position for the c.g. did you end up with for the best overall flight performance ??????

It is safe to say that if you have a YD Aero 56, DA-50 or a DLE-55. You can mount (2) 5 cell and (1) 4 cell NiMh batteries in front of the fuel tank.
Hope that helps.

RE: Redwing 50cc Sboch
I got the Spinner that I ordered. Tim was kind enough to send me a T shirt along with my order. Thanks Tim. I'll be glad to wear it.
I also glued the spinner I broke back together. Reinforced it on the inside with some Fiberglass. I'll paint it and re balance it and see how it works.
We also had a beautiful sunset the last night. So I just took a picture. I thought it would make a great photo with a Redwing Label at the bottom. The only thing the photo is missing is an Sboch.

RE: Redwing 50cc Sboch
Hey Tom,
Your 50cc Sbach has turned out great! I always like your build threads because not only are they detailed but clearly written but the workmanship is excellent!
My 90" Sbach 342 was delayed by a few weeks because it's an early release kit that is still under development and flight testing but I now have a video of the maiden flight of the prototype.
I have requested a few minor changes to be made but nothing that will cause any major delays from now on. My kit wil be shipped to me sometime next week.
Being a 90" plane, I am going to use an 80cc engine. I have an MVVS80 which will have a 26x10 - 3-blade prop and canisters.
This plane was scaled down from 3-dimensional drawings of the full scale so she is as scale as any model you will find in this category. Look at the wing size and shape, for example
Here is a sneak peek video of the flight testing (this is a big file)
http://modelaviation.com.au/videos/H..._Sbach-342.wmv
I stress that not even in my dreams do I fly as well as these guys
I plan to run a detailed build thread on the Sbach because I will also be writing the assembly manual for the production planes. I hope to have them available for sale just before Christmas (sorry about the shameless plug for myself )

RE: Redwing 50cc Sboch
You sure an 80cc engine will get the job done??The Redwing Sbach has and 89" WS and a 50cc pulls it around great! I think with a 90" WS I wouldn't go more than a 60cc or you might up the wing loading a bit and the plane may not fly as good as it should and/or could.
Ohh, I can't get the video to load.
