Anybody set this plane up with a DLE 55 and cannister? Curious to know what header drop it would need and how long and type of a cannister (rear or front dump) it is setup for.. I'm seriously thinking about pulling the trigger and purchase one soon. The Combo Deal on their site is very tempting...

Bandit

Yes the one I built has the DLE 55, you can see it in the videos thats posted on the Redwing RC youtube page... there should be links on the website also. I didn't do a can install but I "can", no pun intended, try and get thetunnelmeasurementsfor you if you like... the engine is notinstalledin the plane its in something else for testing so I can't tell you the drop right now sorry...

The plane also comes with the cannister mounts in two different sizes, I don't have them with me so maybe Tim can let you know once he gets a chance...

yeah, 2 left. one is missing a cowl (until next week), then I'll have 2 total, till spring at least.

Argggggg!!! [sm=what_smile.gif] I knew you were running low on stock, but was hoping you had more than 2.. I'll just keep my fingers crossed till I can put in my order, probably the week before Christmas.. If sold out by then, I'll just have to wait for the next shipment.. []

Kewl, so will fit a KS 86 cannister easily. Any idea on the length? KS86 is about 12" total to include inlet for front dump, rear dump is a little longer. Is the tunnel setup for rear dump?

Thanks for all the info,

Yes, its 14" from the back of the tunnel to the opening, and yes you can set up for front or rear dump, as long as the front dump exits in front of the front opening, if not you will have to cut into the F1 former and you will have about 3" of wiggle room there until you hit the landing gear mount.  With little skill you should be able to make it work either way, with little to no mods necessary.

Perfect! A KS 86 rear dump is 14" overall including the inlet and the front dump is 12" so either would work fine. All I need now is an approximate measurement for header drop to know which header to get for the DLE 55. Still keeping the fingers crossed they have one of these left for me in a couple weeks when I can pull the trigger. Thanks for all the info, it is much appreciated.

well!! mine is ready to fly it's not a redwing but a goldwing kit same plane from what i hear???? dle 55 with a pitts muffler and i had to make the modification to the lower firewall for clearance, the smoke tank is installed in the cannister tunnel, and it all works!!! running 2 life2100 for the flight 1 2100 for the smoke pump, and a 2300 for the ignition, all 7955 servo's for overkill and smart-fly dual reg w/failsafe switch because i had one already (used it for the battery back up) the sullivan smoke pump is pretty kool you can program it in sync with the throttle!!!
haven't gotten a auw on it yet will do it when i go to the field. i set the c.g. at 5 1/3 inches from the leading edge and still had to add 9 oz. of lead in the nose???

I didn't think you had to add any lead since you are adding an extra batterie and a smoke pump. Have you got them forward as far as you can get it? I'm guessing 18.5# the way it is. My Extra flies great at that weight.

Can't wait to see some pictures with the smoke on. Get some video if you can.

Actually I have two Harley's. One is a custom that I built from the ground up.

I'll just fly Bobs Cause he also flies mine. Me and a couple of guys in the Club fly each others planes. It's OK with me if he takes it to the field and fills it up with gas for me. LOL.

Here is a link to my Winter project. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_10...m.htm#10214617

I'll probably build a Yak 55m or a Pitts Python next.

I was able to put my PAU 100cc Extra in the back of my pick up. It's an 05 GMC Sierra short bed. I didn't have the elevators, rudder or spinner on it at the time. I think it will fit with the spinner on. I made my rudder removable just for that reason. Won't let me post pictures right now but will post pictures of the rudder mod when I can.

Here are the pictures for the rudder mod.
I used the large Dubro hinges and I think .049 spring steel rod.

When glueing in the hinges you have to have the rod in all the hinges to keep from binding I used vaseline to keep the hinges from getting any glue on it. Used Gorilla glue and l taped the rudder in overnight with masking tape to keep the hinges from pushing out. The rod comes out and goes back in without binding or ketching.

I am presently buildling my Version 3 Sbach 342. It has gone together very well, but I have to admit I am not crazy about the metal servo arms that were included in the kit. I have decided to purchase 1.5 inch hangar 9 arms for the ailerons and elevators. I then purchased a 3.5 SWB double rudder arm for the rudder. How many batteries did everyone use. I used a LIFE 6.6 2100 on the servos, a life 6.6 1100 for the reciever, and 4.8 2000 nicad on the ignition.

I am using SAVOX 1256TG on the rudder and SAVOX 1258TG on the ailerons and elevators. They are coreless and titanium gears. The ailerons and rudder are really fast around .08 and 170 ounces and the rudder is .15 and 277 ounces.
They seem to be plenty powerful enough and they center excellent.

Secondly,
I was wondering on CG on this plane. I know Tom used around 6" back from leading edge. Can anyone else provide me with their CG's. I am going to use this plane for IMAC. Did you have to put your batteries all the way up front near the motor?

Oh yea, I had to shorten my standoffs to 2 1/4 inches to get the desired cowl to spinner length. Well that caused some other issues with the muffler. I constructed a custom wrap around pitts muffler to keep from cutting the engine box.

Did anyone coat the edges of the G10 control horns with clear or epoxy to seal them. I have heard about these type of horns delaminating at the edges.

I will post some pictures tomorrow when my camera is charged.
