Whoever get's the first one gets a membership in the Waco Brotherhood. Oh, so do the rest of you if you want one.

Are you serious ? I thought that membership was exclusive to only those who have built one of those very expensive kits and maybe a small number of the Cox/Pica ARF's. Interesting..... MM

Well I don't know if I will rate a membership for getting one of these but so far I am only on page 57 of the WACO forum and there has been some good info! All I can say is that is a LONG thread. LOL Good read though. I have always liked this plane but do not have the time to build one and have not seen a ARF of one recently until this one! I can not wait!

I think I'd like to get my hands on one of these Waco's as well...
.

Geoff, are you planning on doing a review on this GP Waco?

I got the GP Shoestring after reading your rcu review. Really fun plane.

leedees,

Are you a CMAC member? The Naples, FL caught my eye..... Not too many of us down here in the frontier!

Oh, and that Waco caught my eye too!

Hey guys, I was looking on ebay this morning and saw a seller who has five of these Great Planes Wacos for sell. I don't know how he beat Tower to the punch. They are 479.00 plus 12.50 for shipping. If you want to be the first to get it and be inducted into the brotherhood here is your chance. I would buy one today if I had the money. Oh well

I saw that too, it may be legit. I have noted oftentimes storefront dealers will receive airplanes and new radios etc before the big online/catalog sellers have them in stock, both Tower and Horizon.

I just wish Tower or GP would put the manual online for this Waco.

I have mine on backorder from Tower, I received my motor for it yesterday, I am going to use the Saito 180 gas, it is a beautiful engine.

I am like you RC, I have mine on backorder also and have my engine also! A DLE 30. I also have a Great Planes Stuka here that I am trying to decide on an engine for. I want gas and the Saito FG-14 Looks good. Is this your first Saito gas or have you had good success with them?

I would stay away from the 14, I have the fg-20 and it has been terrible. I look forward that the carb on the 30 is better...

Thanks RC. I am not in a hurry to get that one going yet so I can wait to see if somebody else comes out with a reliable gas engine in the 15cc range. Now the WACO I can't wait for. I have everything waiting on the plane. Well almost everything, Jtech is going to make me a Pitts when I get the engine mounted and give them the measurements that I have to work with. I will have to see how much cowl is going to have to be cut out and if it is to much I might rethink my engine choice.

JEESH !!! HOW MUCH LONGER ! This is worse than waiting with the wife in the delivery/labor room. Unless the container ship made the mistake of sailing pass Somalia and has been hijacked, Those WACO's should be on the shipping dock at Tower by now. Good thing this is Northern Utah, we still have a month of winter to go and everything here is grounded for now. Time for somemore "medication". MM Winter project is done and ready to maiden.

Thank you ACF. It's an old Aerodrome Models kit. 20 years old and I believe there were only a few of those kits made . Complete kit and top quality too. I'll fly it along with the Waco...........someday.......[sigh[]] Seeya, MM

Mike,

I'll be talking to Dick Watz tonight. I'll let him know how much you appreciate his work. He sent me the last Hurricane a few years ago. I'm looking forward to finding the time to build it. I'm probably going to enlarge it to about 90 or so inches, and just save the original kit.

I am right there with ya MM. I lost my Corsair yesterday in a stall. My fault, too much tail wind, too slow airspeed!! I could really do with another project right now. I can't wait for this plane to come in. I check the site everyday wondering if they are going to do the normal and push it back. We have had great temps lately, but lots of wind! Bet it is cold in Utah. I have been to Hill AFB in June for a couple of weeks but never in the winter. Beautiful plane you have there! How big is it?

Hello Guys ! Yo Bill, I have been trying to contact Dick about this kit but maybe my e-mails are not getting through. I would really like to know anything more about this kit like how many were made, etc. I made a few up-grades in the construction of this, namely, the two-piece dural landing gear and a modified wing strut assembly Main gear is integral with wing strut mount. 1/4 ply sandwiched between the two and bolted together. Very strong indeed. Struts are pre-shaped air-foil aluminum with my own design wing and fuse mount installed in the ends. Struts are definately functional. I hope I have'nt offended Dick with my mods, And yes, it does resemble the Carl Goldberg 108-3, er, somewhat...... MM

Oops, almost forgot. It's a 74 inch wing span, OS 1-20, Kevlar Pull-Pull rudder, 16 oz tank and 2.4 JR. This will be treated like a full scale and will be around for a long time barring any mishaps. Lotsa "TLC" Seeya, MM

Dick's email address changed last year. If you will send me a pm with yours, I'll get it to him. We talk every evening, so it won't take long to get it to him. I asked him last night about how many of the Stinson's were kitted, and he said, "A bunch of them." Evidently it was a very popular kit.

OMG. 1.20 in that little Stinson. You want to hover it or something? What does it weigh? [X(] My buddy had a .50 Saito in his and it flew it perfectly, actually a little overpowered for scale. Dick did an outstanding job on the design. Wish he still sold his kits.

Actually, A 1.20 is what's needed to pull this around in a somewhat little more than scale. I'm at 4500 feet altitude here and the air is just a tad thin. This plane weighs in at a full twelve pounds and using the Carl Goldberg 108-3 as a close example [which came in at eleven pounds] I chose to follow it's lead. Using a 16-6 prop you'd be surprised how much runway gets used up before it takes to the air [and that's with 20% flaps] I tried a .90 OS at first with the CG Stinson but it was quite underpowered. I'm not into 3D stunts nor do I "wring " my planes to high stress manouvers. I like to just fly mello and close to scale. Winter is still here with a big storm headed my way so the maiden is a ways off for now. I hope Dick can see the photos of this and then give me an opinion. It is an excellent kit and enjoyed every minute of building it. Seeya, MM

Naah, this was an ARF thread. The Waco Thread is in the Vintage and Antique Forum.
