RE: Kangke Waco Biplane
Have you taken your Waco up again for another try? Anyone else have more flight experience to tell us and inflight photos to show? I hope to have mine up within the next two weeks. I'm purchasing the Franklin decals from Dick also. Hope it is as fun as my G26 Cermark Pitts.

2nd flight last weekend, did a few loops and rolls. The plane is very solid feeling and only goes where you direct it. Mine needed a couple of clicks of aileron trim. I am very pleased with its performance. The Moki 135 is not the engine for unlimited vertical but flys it fine for my style of "airshow" flying.

Well, I was hoping to try the waco out again tonight, but the weather probably won't cooperate. I installed the new PCM receiver last night to hopefully alleviate the glitching. I also moved the ignition battery pack way up front by the ignition. Hope this helps. I will post when I get a chance to fly it again.

RE: Kangke Waco Biplane
Any news on subsequent flights and your radio problems? I will probably fly mine this weekend if all goes well.
This last weekend's flying was awewome. While flying my R/C plane, a full scale Pitts S1 landed (we fly at an old WWII practice field with one active and one inactive runway) on the active runway and the pilot came over to see the Pitts I was flying. Not too long after a Greatlakes bipe, a Super Decathlon and an Edge 540T landed and we spent the rest of the day watching them run through full scale sportsman and intermediate aerobatic sequences in preparation for a competition in a few weeks. VERY cool! [8D]

Took the waco up last night. Switching to PCM receiver solved all the glitching problems. It flies really good, except the idle was too high. I had to take the cowl apart again last night to adjust the throttle linkage at the carb side. Otherwise, it appears like it is a good flier. I hope to get in-flight pics later this week.

RE: Kangke Waco Biplane
Maiden went well today. This is a very easy to fly airplane with great aerobatic capability (too bad the pilot isn't as good as the plane). The ZDZ engine is just right for this plane although I think I'll switch from a 20x10 prop to a 20x8. It felt like it would run and fly better with a little higher RPM setup. Ground handling was excellent, take off was very smooth and the landing was predictable and VERY easy. Keep just a little speed on landing and it will be perfect. My first (made 4 flights) landing was better than any I had done all year on any plane. It was that easy. The plane looks gorgeous in the air with these decals on it. Thanks Modelgrafix for the outstanding work!
The last photo was almost as fun... a flight in a full scale Pitts S-2A. The pilot let me do some rolls and a loop. VERY COOL!

Alan,I just bought the Waco that was for sale on RCU.Going to go with the ZDZ 40 or a Brison 2.4.How big is the cowl as I want to figure out if the Brison side carb will stick out.How did the rear carb fit on the fire wall with the ZDZ.Any other changes you made when putting her together.Going to call Dick to get the grafix package.Your plane looks great and glad to hear she flys well.

Mine flys great!! I have a FPE 2.4 gasser, TME smart pump smoke system. Looks Awesome. I need some graphix. Alan can you E-mail details on yours. I love them.
P.S the gear is so springy I couldn't land without breaking a prop. I made cross bracing with 120LB fishing leader and solved the problem.

Good... Bill would be a better candidate to answer your questions about cramming that 2.4 in there. This thing flies great! I've never had a more relaxing maiden flight. Nice to come home with no bruises on the insides of the knees . Dick does an excellent job with the graphics. Now all we need is a wing walker!

RE: Kangke Waco Biplane
The FPE 2.4 fit with no carb out the side. I had to make a cut at the bottom for the head and spark plug, and relieve an 1/8 of an inch off the tri-stock on the firewall to fit the stock muffler. I cut one small hole to choke the carb with my finger ( this isn't necessary if you remote choke or install choke linkage ) All in all it is a very neat installation and probably easier than the rear mount carb. The ZDZ does have alot of power, but I have unlimited vertical and I already had the FPE! I will take picts tonite.

Thanks Billy,Going to go with the ZDZ as I got one for a great deal.Where did yiou get that pilot?Alan does the rear carb go behind the firewall or did you have to use stand offs.Did you use a servo on the choke? How is your landing gear Billy states he had to modify his as they spring out. Thanks

RE: Kangke Waco Biplane
Edgeman, I though I would chime in with some answers to your questions since I recently finished mine with a ZDZ 40 installed.
You have to take out quite a sizeable chunk of firewall to get the engine to fit. I was nervous about it, so I reinforced it with 1/8 ply. Ray from Kangke says that wasn't really necessary but it made me feel better. The carb ends up inside the fuselage by alot. I used standoffs from the hardware store. They are called cable ferrules and can be found at any hardware store. They were aluminum, 3/4 inch long, about 1/2 inch diameter with a hole down the center about the same size as the hole in the engine mount. They were only $2 per package. I found mine by the eye hooks, chain link cables, etc. They work perfect and came recommended from Ray at Kangke. That is what they used in prototype (and they can be seen in instruction manual for waco).
I used a separate servo for the carb choke and mounted it back by the rudder servo tray. I used a sullivan pushrod system to connect it to the carb. Initially, I had the carb choke servo mounted right next to the carb, but I had alot of interferance, so I moved it back. Now I don't have any interferance issues. I also switched to PCM too.
I have not modified my landing gear yet, and I don't think I will really have to. I have not had any issues with the landing gear bending on landing, and I land on blacktop. This thing flies great and landings are a piece of cake. The ZDZ 40 provides tons of power. It really wants to take-off quickly. The tailwheel literally lifts off immediately, and the plane is airborne in about 20 feet. I use a master airscrew 20x10 prop with a 3.75 inch spinner.
Hope this helps.

RE: Kangke Waco Biplane
oh, I forgot to mention one more tip. If you mount your ZDZ40 like I mention above using the 3/4 aluminum cable ferrules for stand-offs, you may need to rotate the engine slightly clockwise depending on which muffler you have.
Mine did not clear the lower part of the fuselage, so I rotated the engine a few degrees clockwise when looking at engine head-on. Ray from Kangke also had to do this, according to a conversation I had with him. Hope all this helps.

RE: Kangke Waco Biplane
I have a few questions about the K. Waco: Is the plane already set up to recieve four servos on the ailerons? Or is it set up to use two servos and a push/pull connecting rod? I also have a ZDZ40BS and will be installing it on this airplane......... if the WIFE okays the purchase of the Waco......YIKES! Thanks for any help about the ailerons!

RE: Kangke Waco Biplane
The waco is set up to use either 2 or 4 aileron servos. To use 4, you simply need to cut away covering over servo mount area on top wing. The kit does not include hardware and rods for the 2 aileron method, so I think they are assuming most people will use 4 servos. That is the route I chose. I used 4 standard futaba servos (s3004), and they work great. Plenty of torque. Sbaug

Hey guys,Did you just glue in the slot on the verticle stab thru the horizontal one.The instructions say not to remove the covering from the horizontal stab-never done this before. Also what incidence are you running on the top wing,Thanks-Almost ready to fly.

OK so no one caught this when I asked the other day.I glued both the horizontal and vertical stabs and set the top wing to 1.5 degree neg incedence. If you guys used the Ca hinges how are they holding up to the gas engine vibration.Would nylon 1/4 scale hinges be better.

CA hinges are fine. Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier about the vertical and horizontal stab attachments. Sounds like you have it under control ... errrrr... radio control right?
