It sure has been slow around here lately. Lucan those planes look fantastic. I love the pic of the radial engine. I've been a little preoccupied by my new electric 3dfoamy edge. Been tinkering around trying to get it together. I've heard these foamies can be addictive

Coo, that Edge, is it the flat foam profile? Meaning, no airfoil? Basically, they are an electric setup with flaps to steer it under power, yet zero glide rate. There have been a few constructed @ our field, from fan fold foam and surprisingly will do it all, except glide in. Great practice tool. I've been eyeballing the all EPP foam 'Pigi' with the hollow Vorteck airfoil and 3D tail for a year now and finally saw one in action. I will get one of those. Indestructable, with real flight characteristics.
The GWS 'Formosa' is gorilla glued back together and will have another go at it this after. It is still a pig and do not expect much from it. These inclusive packages survive on the upgrades needed to make them actually fly. What a scam.
Dave, I wish there was a breeze, perhaps it would have helped this pig stay aloft for more than 4 seconds.
Drat, its raining. I really wanted to get out again tonight and lean on the UCD some more. Can't get enough of it. Later, Joe

Yeah Joe it's a flat wing with no airfoil. It's made of Depron. It's the Edge 540 from 3dfoamy.com. Levi over at 3dfoamy does a great job with the kits. I've seen many of them fly in video's and they are amazing. I wanted something I could practice 3D with in my backyard. The entire plane ready to fly should weigh about 14 ounces. No fun in the wind, but a blast under normal conditions. I'm going with an AXI outrunner and 3s LiPo's. Can't wait to get it finished.

These foamies are very intriguing, amazing capabilities and practice right in front of your face. Did you ever see the Pigi from Hobby Lobby? In the vid, right in the middle of a hover, they cut the power and let it hit the pavement on its tail feathers and fly it away. EPP is almost indestructible with the ability to bend it in half and it will spring right back to its original shape. I want one for practice as I don't care to build another UCD. Joe

Joe that Pigi looks interesting. Looks really easy to hover. Kinda expensive though. But as long as i's practically indestructable then it would pay for itself over time. You should get one then let me knwo how you like it

Coo, the wheels are in motion, although I will not be getting the recommended set up from HobbyLobby, as it is pricey. Aircraft International has them and will arrive next day from order. Also the HS55s from AI are $16.00 each compared to $20.00 plus @ HL. Batteries America are ridiculously cheap if you want to build a Lipo pack or they have them packed for under $30.00 With that I will toss in a Castle Creations speed controller and a Hacker brushless. Should come out to around a third less than the recommended package. I will let you know how I make out. Joe

Hi Dave and the Gang. Been out of town on a personal trip to N.C. this past week. Dave great shots. Did you get to see the B-52 actually fly? I have seen the video of the flight test. Just plain awesome. I can't imagine seeing this beauty in real life. What a treat.

Still working on the GS Extra. Been out of town so much not much time for assembly. Had the UCD out just before I left for some fun flying. All is still holding up well, though my TW did come lose and had to glue it back in place, but other than this no problems.

Not into the foamies. Joe, do you think practicing on one of these would really allow you to easily transition back to you glow models? Just seems that it might be like playing racket ball and then trying to play tennis. The stroke goes to the dickens. I may be wrong - just wondering.

From what I've heard learning to fly/hover/torque on an electric plane is a tremendous help when it comes to 3D'ing your glow birds.

Roger

Gordon had the B-52 parked up ..then within no more than 5 mins all eight turbines were running ...he just taxied out and took off...i nearly missed it ..i'd just fetched an ice cream...magnificent ..truly.. Not very good pics..

Thats like being @ a military base, great pics. Got the UCD up for about 15 minutes last night in between the rain drops. Raining now. I swear we have Seattle's weather. Got the Formossa out last night as well, its a shame that it is such a PIG!!!! If it were only a little larger, I could slide a beer down the fuse and at least it would have a purpose. Later, Joe

Joe, Coo, Roger..Matt...Autoguns..?..?..et al..

..Where is everybody..[:-]..at the beach..?....its like a graveyard around here...

More later..Dave

as a matter off act I was at the beach!! Left a day early but got 6 days enough of fun in the sun. Hurt me bad as I was without the female unit I am attached to so it was fun but a bit lonesome Miami is dangerous for single people to roam around [sm=lol.gif]

anywayz...got the ucando all ready and decked out for this coming weekend. I CANNOT WAIT!! 4 degrees right thrust, full cowl, oh boy!!

only planes I saw on my vacation was an Agwagon pulling ads along the beach and some other older Cessna. Also saw a jet going under the guise of a street car, her name is Lamborghini Murcielago

btw nice pics Dave, thanks for sharing!!!!!

also forgot to mention, I saw this interesting contraption flying along the water, looks like a good plane to get in ARF form for a backyard flyer

Matt..Im catching the next flight out [8D]...We need to talk...these are the early stages..this decline CAN be stopped. Hormonal entrapment is due to become illegal in some parts of the U.K.

I let this go unchecked.[:@]..Wifey has just finished her PHd...in .."World Male Dommination"[:-]

Women these days are operating way beyond thier design parrameters.

It's time for my second UCD to have it's maiden flight today. I hope that there will be no radio failure this time.
I do have a question though. Why do they tell you to use a Great Planes balance stand when there is no wood to support the airplane on the stand? Seems to me you can poke a hole in the covering real easy.

Can you adjust the width of the balancer? Is so you could adjust it so you are centered on the spars?

Alan, I bet it's a matter of cutting and pasting common language they use in most likely all of their directions. Good luck on your new plane. I always get pumped about a maiden flight. Let us know how it goes.

Matt, you and the babes, beach, and fast cars. Oh to be so young again. I think I'm going to go out and buy a Vette. I want a muscle car with some -alls. After all, at my age I'm entitled to a mid-life crisis, and......yes dear [X(], I'm coming. I'm just about finished and will be down in a few minutes. [&:]No, I haven't been on the computer all night. I just wanted to check......Yes honey. right away!

haha Roger!! Sadly the fast cars dont belong to me as I drive a Jeep, the babes is singular as I have my main squeeze but the beach I can claim a stake to though

FYI I got a pattern ship the other day, ill start a thread on it soon once I get the engine selected for it.

I plan on cranking the rates on he UCANDO today to as far as I can get them to go and increase the expo all the way around too. I saw a vid of a guy flying his here and he had insane amounts of throw, only thing I can see that kept it from flopping around was crap loads of expo.

I got to field last night and everything was perfect. About 78 degrees and a very light wind if any. I thinking what a great night to take off work for flying. When we got there my wife said she was determined to solo. Just one problem though, there were no trainers at the field[&o]. I am in no way ready to start training someone. But at the level she is at and it being the trainer that I used I felt that I could help her out without fear. So I took the trainer up for one flight to get used to it again. Then I let her take it up on the buddy box. She hit 2 really good landings and was ready to solo. By the time she got back into the air it was getting kind of dark. I lost site of the plane I don't know how many times[X(] she even lost site several times, I told her to get the plane back on the ground real quick. I thinking that I am going to have an airplane to repair when I get home[]. But some how she got the plane on the ground and ready to fly again[8D].
So I thought that I would get the engine(OS .91 4 stroke) tuned in the UCD. No luck getting it started and it was so dark by this time that I had to use the lights in my trailer to see to take the wing bolts out[&o]. So I am hoping that the weather holds out this weekend and I hope to have better luck this weekend. Now that my wife is on her own and does not need my help
