Dual elevator servos

That is exactly right. The equalizer or JR's matchbox is the only way two servos
from different manufacturers are going to move in synch with each other. I'm
sure the plane will fly without them but will probably have some interesting
trim problems. I still don't see the need for dual elevator servos unless you
are flying something very large such as the TOC planes, but that's just my opinion.
If you feel the need - do it.

If I put the CJ retracts it will only be 9 servos and 1 mini servo for the valve.
Going Vert, thanks for the link for the equalizer. Thats probably the route I'll take. Its a little less than the JR matchbox
This is a classic example of what radio you should buy when starting out in this hobby. 3 years ago I bought the 7 channel and now I wish I had purchased the 8 or 9 channel. If you plan on growing in this hobby go ahead and take the plunge in the beginning for a radio you can grow into!!

OK, I'm not a pattern flyer or a 3der. I pondred over the same situation on my GP Pitts and what I ended up doing was this. I used two high torque servos for the ele. with a "Y" harness. On one side I used the servo with the arm up and on the other side I used the arm down on the servo. Using a GP throw guage I found both halves of the ele. traveled exactly the same. This may not be the proper way to do it, but I have not had a problem with this setup.

This is why I advise beginners to start with a Basic 4-channel (the airborne components cost almost as much as the whole system... the TX is almost disposable)
Then after you have gotten somewhere and start needing that 5th channel... buy the best the market has to offer (if youcan afford it) The old system stays in one of your lesser planes... the good system is uded for the better aircraft. (and if someone is flying on the frequency of the better plane... you can take the old beater up and wring it out.
