What's the consensus on the strength of the wing joiner - it seems a wee but undersized for somthing this big. Has anyone bothered to peel back the covering and glass the joint?

No problem on my end with the wing joiner...and I've really punished this thing! Right now mine is modified with two 32 ounce fuel tanks and two 2400 Nicad receiver packs in preparation for our club cross-country race.

Even with all this weight...it will STILL hover with the G26 (needs full power to do it).

Given that the entire fuselage is lite-ply, is it still a good idea to fuel proof?

Hey guys, FINALLY put in my maiden flight today... All went well! Cool Plane, a little less agressive than i expected but still have to play around with the cg etc. I think i cheated death today as it was not untill i got home and wiped off the oil residue that i found one of the wing dowels broken off! YIKES!! anyone else have that problem?? I wound up drilling them out and threading in two 1/4" bolts to substitue the dowels... Don't think they will break! Happy Landings! Dave.

How does it fly compared with the .60 Ultra Stick? Do's it do a knife edge easier?

My wing joiner has held up well. I've downsized the fuel tank to 12 oz, and saved a bundh of weight. Fun plane. The knife edge elevators are great!

Mine knifes great! I have a rudder to elevator mix on it so it's easy.

Mine Knife-edges with an Elevator to rudder mix, and a little bit of aileron to rudder mix as well.

I LOVE this plane...I need a spare!!

AeroDave, what sort of flight time do you get with that tank?

Has anyone used the stock 2-56 control rods on the wings? I have a bunch of Dubro 2-56 HD ball links and clevises to use up....

David.
I think its about 12 minutes, but I don't time it o its hard to say. When I mounted my G26 I didn't know you could take the aluminum plate off. So I felt mine was a bit heavier than everyone else's. So by using a smaller tank ( I'm lazy and didn't want to re mount the engine) I've made up the weight and more. As for the 2-56 hardware, is your stuff fully threaded rod or pushrods with threaded ends? Sorry for asking a dumb Q, I'm just not familiar with that setup.

H9 supplies steel 2-56, threaded one end pushrods. I was gooing to put Dubro 2-56 HD ball links on one end, and a solder-on clevis on the other....

I opted to go with all Dubro heavy duty hardware and 4-40's all the way around. I am glad too because the rudder and elevator rods vibrate like guitar strings when it is sitting at idol! 2-56 would probably bend up on my plane. But then again i am running a Brison 2.4 up front. Overpowered yes but it is a blast to fly! I put a throttle curve in it and it is just a blast! UNLIMITED VERTICLE!!! Hovers at 1/4 throttle!

My first Post. Desertpig- Just received my Ultra Lite 120 and G26. This is my first gas engine. I printed out your Post regarding servos etc you used. I have followed your lead. Must the engine be mounted inverted and did you just add a piece of 1/4 ply to the nose for mounting the G26? Forgive dumb questions, but I have learned to ask when I'm not sure. Many thanks for your hints, suggestions along with areodave etc. Thanks RJ (zmoran)

Desertpig, areodave or anyone else with a G26 in an Ultra Lite. I have been told that I must use special rubber mounting on my G26 due to vibration. Is this what you all ya'll have done? Thanks RJ (zmoran)

I just programmed my 9C for the Ultra Stick. Using the Glid3Flp (Glider) model type, setting it all up took about 15 minutes as Aileron to Flap, Elevator to Flap and Crow are already set up!

Hey David.... As you said i believe earlier , the Futaba web site has the programing for the 9 cap posted on their website under the FAQ's, for the US. Came in very handy! It tells you button by button how to do it! It is not terribly hard to do if you are farmillar with the 9cap but it is kind of nice if you have never set up mixes before, especially for CROW!!! Plane is flyin great by the way! Dave

I was going to do that, but the instructions in the H9 manual for programming the Futaba 8 series are the same as for doing the 9C. The built-in mixes made it a snap.

Hey 3-d flyer, glad to hear you like the brison so much.
everyone tells me mine is overpowered with the brison until I take off and go straight up like a rocket. this is a great setup.
after flying mine for several months I finally put in a smoke system and droped the tank size from 24 to 16 OZ and I can still fly for twenty minutes on a tank.
I have been slowly moving the cg back and it just keeps getting better.

Prophanger:
I put the servos in the tail and put the battery at the base of the vertical fin. That seemed to be about right.. I think if you leave the servos under the wing it will be too nose heavy.
Zmoran: Just bolt that thing on. No rubber mount required!

Hey Wyldman, good to hear back from ya! I am having the same experience! Everyone at the field yesterday (you could hear under their breath) Watch this thing take off!! UNLIMITED! We had a low ceiling the other day and i was able to put her into the cloud cover!!! Was that ever the best! Flat spin on the way down, and then transitioned into a hover! This plane is an awesome relitively inexpensive fun gass airplane, I have 3 glow planes left out of 8 when they go, thats it for me... It will be all gas. Just lovin' it! Happy Landings!

AeroDave. Thanks for the info on mounting the G26. The G26 is ready to install but can you tell me why everyone seems to mount the engine inverted? I'm sure there must be a reason. I also noticed some remove the metal mounting plate that comes with the G26 and double up with plywood when mounting it on the nose. Is that to remove the weight? zmoran (RJ)

zmoran,
I've always mounted my gassers inverted, but I can't tell you why.....Its just what everyone else does 8^) The mounting plate is really heavy. I would take it off. There are some good pics and mounting instructions for using this engine without the plate. I didn't do it on mine and wish I would have. Just too lazy to take it of at this point. With the slimline muffler it pulls out of a hover just great so why bother? I did just buy another G26 and as soon as it comes the plate is comin' off!
