I certainly agree the World Models Midget Mustang is a great choice. I have one and it is really fun to fly. Maybe World Models will make a Rare Bear ARF. I would like to see this happen and I would buy one from World Models to replace the thunder tiger mess.

Itzdzword,
You guys arent instilling alot of confidence for my maiden flight. I dont know how much mine weighs, but im sure its a sled with all of the reinforcing that needed to be done. Judging by the historical data from other modelers RB's, I guess i am going to get somewhere between 2 and 5 flights before confetti rains out of the sky from this thing. Is there anyone out there still flying one ? Or have they all crashed? As long as I get my BVM retracts and my 160 back Ill be happy. Ill post pics later.......and also of the debris field that my RB makes in some farmers field after the stab lets go.....probably will fly it on sat.....later

AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With all the bad reviews and problems with this kit--I can't believe people are still buying it.

Way to send a message to TT.

"Your product is a piece of crap--but we'll buy it anyway."

Same with the 3D Spirit from TT. Everyone complaining about it--but people still buying it.

If you want to send a message to TT--then don't buy their products. That will get their attention.

Otherwise--quick whining--you asked for it when you bought a product with known design flaws and poor customer support.

Rcpilot, you're the smack champ! Lighten up.

I got my RB from a preorder deal and have been sitting on it since it arrived hoping to put it in the air someday.

It took the guys in this thread to find out there are issues, and were thoughtful enough to find a remedy and post it here. I thank them for their efforts and wish them the best.

TT can kiss my as* for future buying but someday I'll make the mods to my RB described here and live with it.

hay Don,

ya hear anything about the state of health of the RareBear engine?
a fella who flew up at PRS a few weeks back (T6 bronze class whom I spoke with) said it was running pretty darn rough.
you heard about elliot white, correct?
No burned cylinder... Engine timing was waaaaaay off. We now have an engine ready to go for the gold. This new crew is getting along better too.

Dave,

I was going to post the same thing but you beat me to it.

I got one of the first planes off the boat. I'll be making even more radical mods to mine to make sure the tail doesn't flutter off. Involves a foam core/balsa stab all the way through the fuselage. That's the plan, may change once I get the plane out of the box and take a look. Since I have it in storage and won't get to it for a while, I'm glad all the other people were test pilots and came up with fixes.

No more TT ARFs for me.

Don

Hey Rcpilet,
If you dont know what you are talking about, than may I suggest you shut your twinkie hole. My wife bought me the kit last year and I am just now getting around to building it. I was fully aware of the design problems of the kit before I ever opened the box. How many flights did you say you got outa your RB? By the way, who said I was asking for customer support?

It goes to show make it really really pretty, and people will buy it. I have never had a plane that looks better on the ground than in the air. Never until now!

How many people married a blond and found out she really was dumb !

As for Thunder Tiger Products, I will never ever buy anything from them, and will discourage everyone I see and know not to buy from them also. So far I know of 7 people who aren't buying their products and hopefully they will past on the boycott of Thunder Tiger to more people as I know they have. Just for grins, I attend several fly ins, Giant Scales, Fun Flys in and around southern cal. I plan to hang the Scare Bear from a post as is, with cracks and damage. I will accompany the aircraft with a letter about how and why it is a piece of crap......

Looks ain't everything but they are nice. You just don't ever want to pay 520.00 bucks for an aircraft (2) that the people who sold it to you knew it was going to fail...................................

Good Luck on that maiden flight. I wish I had have taken pictures of my first Scare Bear Crash.... But please post yours, oh sorry when you fly it then post yours..............

Again Good Luck you'll need it.

I realize that I'm a year behind everyone in building this and a "Johnny come lately" to this thread, so I'm glad that there are some guys out there that can still give some words of encouragement. ITZDZWORLD, thank you and apparently I will need all the luck I can rub out of a 4-leaf clover, rabbit's foot, lucky penny, etc. Sorry to hear about your and many others bad luck with the kit. I'll post some before pics just incase I have to carry it home in my dust buster And RCPilet, I'm not whining again, it's just another joke.

Later..

makes me wonder if sharron coates & co approached anyone other than thunder tiger for the development of this product. yeah, it would have been nice if world models was the supplier/designer but it is what it is.

if you're ambitious, you can always order a scale model of one from cactus aviation - it weighs in like 40 or so pounds and you'd have to do all the painting & logo from scratch.

I bought my Rare Bear last fall, and it has sat in the corner until now. I plan on rebuilding the stabs, and I also know that I will have to rebuild the landing gear bays as well. If there is someone out there who has any pictures of their modifications, can you please post them? As far as cutting into the stabs, is it best to get the outline and completly rebuild them, or just remove the balsa skin and glue/ resheet? Any input on these questions will be greatly appreciated.

Cat5752,

There are tons of pics and mods already posted in this thread. You need to put in some due diligence and scan through if you want to benefit from this forum.

I posted extensive pics and instructions on how I did my stab. I have put it down hard since and the stab took a hard hit in heavy brush and was rock solid. Broke the leading edge but nothing else. Quick and easy to fix and was back up.

There is nothing wrong with this plane if you take the time to read through this and make some critical mods.

Another one is to add wing bolts. I also posted pics on that.

I would strongly suggest you go back and look for these and others. If you do the plane will be fine. Good luck

I have been trying to test fly mine now for about two weeks, but have been busy at work and not able to get to the field. I had to work 12 hour days through these past two weekends, now I'm finally off for a couple of days. I'll post some pics of the mods I've done later this evening. I'm finally able to get out tomorrow morning for the test flight. Wish me luck.

Good Luck Flying that thing I want to start a pool ( I am taking 4 flights ) anybody else in.

I finally got someone on the line at ACE (Thunder Tiger). What a comedy, they tried to play pass the buck game. One guy was not supervisor then it was the other, then he wasn't there, then it was the old " I wish I could help you, I feel your concern, I will have to pass this on to my boss, Andrew ? " Last week Andrew passed me on to this guy!

They want me to ship the Aircraft to them at my expense? I know 2 others who have done this only to have them say it was the builders fault not theirs. Why waste my time, This is a snowball rolling towards Court.

I really only wanted to confirm the address, to know where to have the Sheriff serve them.

Signed tired of the Bull**** !

You think four flights, I am in, but only for two flights. Here are a couple pics of the BVM landing gear mod I installed. I did replace the rims & tires tonight with 3" tires. I did a taxi test in my front lawn with the 2.5 inch BVM tires that are in the pictures and it kept wanting to tip up on its nose, The 3" tires handle the grass much better. I am not going to list the mods until after I fly it and I know whether they worked or not.

Finally flew the Rare Bear today. I flew it two times and am very pleased with the way it flew. The gear worked perfectly and the 3" tires handle the grass just fine. It does have a tendency to climb with power but I should be able to fix that with some shims. All up weight came in at 13 3/4 pounds so it is definately a brick, although it flew just fine. Only issue I had was the engine quit on the second flight I think possibly due to overheating. I am gonna open the cowling up just a little bit more and I also had too much prop on it, gotta 16x10 and it really needs a 16x8. I beleive J wortner recommended this prop somewhere in the last 44 pages. Overall impression, great flier, horrible ARF.......but since it looks and flies Bichun than I guess the end justifies the means. I hope my new prop comes in on Friday because a couple of the guys at the field have Lil Tony's and they wanna do a little racing. see ya

I think 4 flights is a good guess before it falls apart in the air...Hope you don't hit anyone with it... I have made a boat anchor with what is left of my attempt to make junk fly. I'll post the pictures of the first use at holding my boat steady while I fish. I have sent the Stab that "FELL OFF IN FLIGHT" as a post card to ACE. Yes, I put a stamp, their address and a very short message on it that indicates how much I spent to send them the stabilizer. Just use your imagination what the message on the card / stab says. Maybe I'll send the whole boat anchor as a possible future business endeavor (new product for them) for their less tan flight worthy attempt at RC aviation.

I am sorry for having to be so negative and sarcastic about this product but after receiving a total insult from the people at ACE and no response from Thunder Tiger, my response is total negative... in fact I will steer anyone I can from buying their (in my opinion) defective products as it is very bad for our hobby. If these company's are allowed to continue producing safety hazards, the entire modeling industry may suffer. I don't know why the AMA has not demanded they remove this plane from AMA sanctioned fields before someone gets hurt.

I would be happy to sign on a class action endeavor to possibly recover some of my losses concerning this product and hopefully send a message to ACE and Thunder Tiger that not living up to "their own warranty" is not the way to do good business.
