I don't think mine was signed by Penny, but I will have to check it out tonight. What size of engine are you going to go with? I have an OS 120 w/pump, but I am not sure what size of prop I will need. I will be starting mine soon, as right now I am finishing a Miss America. look forward to seeing your progress.

Ad great job!

I bet a $100.00 it will last all summer. Only because Ad has skills!

I love it when the village idiots pop off in here and get a spanking.

It's amazing to me that the RB is still on Hobby Shop shelves. I don't know of any RB that has made over four flights. I have made the mods on two of them and will fly one soon. I certainly wish World Models or even Great Planes would make a copy of the beautiful Rare Bear and market it. I think I'd take a chance on them but NEVER again will I ever buy anything with TT on it and Ace, tell us the real story, you know the truth. The pictures of some of the rare bears in previous threads are great and shows some real craftsmen out there. Good Luck you all turning a piece of crap into GOLD!

Is everyone elses kit signed my John Penny ? heres some pics. I know he lives local to me and lives about 15 mins away from me but i didnt know my kit would be signed by him. and I have also heard reports of him also being a new comer to R/Cing.
Well, if mine is NOT signed by Penney, It will be after Reno in September.

I'm going to take a wing panel and have the whole team sign it. WooHoo!

Got three flights in today with the RB(5 total). I opened up the cowling a little last night and no more deadsticks due too overheating. Did some loops and rolls, split S, and full throttle passes. Horiz stab is still attatched. There were a few guys at the field today, one with a lil toni. I radared him at 106. They say my RB looked faster. Who knows, hopefully my new prop will be in tomorrow and I will radar it this weekend and post the results. see ya
BTW...Good luck Cat5752 and Warbirdairracer with your builds.

I am going to use a YS 1.40 FZ that I picked up with the kit yesterday. and I ordered a 3 bladed APC prop with the hub...so i can change blades if needed. I will be starting my build with in the next week or so because I have to go out of town tomorrow for work but I will be back on tuesday night.

As for the signing, as soon as im done with mine im going to have John sign the fuse or wing. since he is local to me im sure it wont be a big deal since he is sponserd (sp) by our LHS [8D]

Hi Johnny, I would say definately get one, lotta work, but well worth it. I decided to super size the tires again, this time with 3.5 in. They just barely squeaked into the wells. I should have done this from the start like someone else recomended.
My new prop came in today as well, very anxious for tomorrow morning. Here is a couple of pics of the gear wells, note the BVM Polyply that is used to stiffen the gear doors. It is approx .20 thousanths and quadroupled the stiffness of the flimsy ABS plastic gear door. I then siver soldered a couple of wheel collars onto some brass brackets and now I can adjust the doors for a flush fit. The large wing panel that covers all of the landing gear mount mods and is screwed and taped to the wing is also a .10 thousanths piece of polyply that has been painted white. Front pic shows the ugly cutout to allow for more cooling. later......

G'day Ad,
Good to see someone else is having the same success with their RB as I've had with mine.
I've posted here previously with my thoughts (including a few tips), they've not changed. Mine has just on 30 flights now and boy does she perform and look the part........
I've been flying jets for about a year now and have sold most of my prop models, but I will be hanging on to this one......[8D]

John VH - 100mph + is not a problem.........go for it.

Cheers from downunder
Ken

THANK"S TO ALL

i am new to fuel engines with a trainer 65 and i am in progress to get the rear bear and a saito 180GK , its good to have this boards with all this nice people to get this information to know what to do , how to mod the bear and how to make the poor factory build to a 110% bear.

i am mainly on rcline and i will post this also to bring this nice plane into the air(after modding) and beware the pilots to use it stock.

i love this plane and as i saw it the first time in a box at a hobby shop ,i decided that this will be my second fuel engine plane.then i found the rear bear page and all the heritage of the original bear .
when i am out for the maiden flight of the bear i need this gold member jacked to

what wonders me is , that the reviews in the modell airplane magazien 12/04 is 100 % and nobody where talking about the problems.
is there an other revue in some mags out ??

have fun and go fast

Got two more flights on the Bear this evening. With "Easton 24" manning the radar gun, the Bear in a shallow dive, all we could muster was 114 mph. I am gonna keep messin withe prop sizes to see if it will break the 120 mph mark if possible......later

Ad Clark III ,

WOW.. 114 mph i tought it wouldn't go over 110 , not bad for that big barrel.
go for 125mph that's 200 km .that will be my goal on 4stroke with a bigger prop and more power like the real one .

i like your rb and the mods on your rb , specialy the gear doors .
i will try to cover also the wheel wells in the fuse with a cover operated by a micro servo, its not a good aerodynamical point to have that big gap in the airstream. have to take a look on the real bear.

what gun do you use, i do have a bushnell velocity and its ok for that price.

cheers
michael

Easystern,

Have you ever seen any review in Model Airplane that was not good???????????? They would be signing adealth warrent for a plane if they gave it a bad review, and the vender for that model would pull their advertising business from the magazine.

You guys are making me want to throw the Miss America in the corner and tear into the Rare Bear. I got a Keleo custom muffler for the Miss A (very cool!), and I emailed Kelvin at Keleo Creations about making a muffler for an OS 120 for the Rare Bear. I want to put air retracts on the Bear, but I don't have any experience with them. I am putting Robart mechanicals with Robo-struts on the Miss A. So many planes, so little time!

I'm thinking Cactus might have the correct answer to my need for a "Real Rare Bear". One that will actually fly more than three times.
