ThunderTiger Rare Bear

Just finished my final gear mods and I'm ready to hit the air again, but now I have a pinhole in my fuel tank. Seems you're not supposed to use a cheap (read TT) arf tank with a YS motor. So now who has the easiest way of pulling out the very bottom piece from the belly of this beast?
DT
P.S. I don't suppose there might be a way to fix this pinhole to get a couple more weekends out of it, is there? The hole is in the rear, so it's easy to reach if there was a way to glue or patch it.

toad,
for future reference, investigate the Tetra tanks that Central Hobbies sells.
they are especially designed for YS pressurized fuel systems.

Thank you very much - looks like the 16 oz will fit just about right, will order one today - just need to make sure there isn't something else I might need if I'm going to order something anyway...lol.
How much pressure is built up in a tank pressurized by a YS motor?

Hey Guys,
Lots of info on the RB's. I feel that I must ad the the Horz. stab failure question. Three TT- RB's were seen at our field this summer....ALL suffered fron horz. stab seperation, resulting in high speed crashes. all three were lost.
Just My 2 cents

According to Ace and TT All three modelers built their planes incorrectly.
Sounds and smells fishy to me.

If you don't follow the published documentation to the letter, Ace can say you didn't build the model correctly. This would include installing an engine larger than the recommended sizes. It's obvious that this particular model wasn't designed for high speed, but rather as a nice looking stand-off scale model.

When we crasch mine RB to the ground, it was equipped with TT 90 pro engine. The one that TT recommends for this plane.
We had also read and follow the extra information that was with the package.
I can say that my RB wasn´t lost at high speed, it was flying on maybe 2/3 throttle.
Now we are building a new RB, this time much better with many mods.
We don´t dare to equip it with a more powerful engine then the 90, too big risk for another failure.

Hi fellas.
I picked up my bear last week and its under the tree. I did remove the instructions and did an inventory . All seams to be there.
I plan on making horizontal strength a little different than yall, but will be beefing them up. I will also be beefing up the entire plane, front to rear by guing everything again, and the gear mounts will be strengthend too.
I will be using the TT retracts, and my supertigre 90 out of my D9.( which has been retired to hanger queen status. )
The radio gear will be moved all the way forward, and any lead needed will be held way forward on a metal rod, so little will be needed.
The elevators will be controlled by two servos and two separate rods coming from up front.
The cowl will mount internaly and the mounting invisable. The canopy hatch thing will also have hidden mounting, if I can figure that one out.
Il also be adding the 1/4- 20 wing bolts as described in this thread.
Iwill be starting on it christmas day.
I know this is not a pylon racer, but a "sport plane copy of a pylon racer" that will look just fine doin 75 mph 4 feet off the deck. I wont be reaming it out. Its not that kind of plane. That said...
I appreciae all the good info on this thread, and if anyone is still with it, Il be posting here accordingly.
Thanx again!

I have a Rare Bear and I will not fly so I do not want to risk anybody. I am going to dismantle it definitivelly. I think that if ACE or Thunder Tiger is reading this post, they should give some comments to all the ones that have denounced a crash due to bad design. Otherwise, with its silence, Thunder Tiger gives the reason to who are putting denounces.

I too have a rare bare that I dare not fly as I am concerned about injurying someone if the stab fails. I have followed all the directions, not overpowered it and beefed up the landing gear and the stab. I followed the instructions to the letter as far as making sure the fiberglass rods are cut to exactly the right length to prevent damaging any of the internal struture.
I think it is maybe time to conctact the consumer protection division as this is not only a costly aircraft to use as a hanger queen but soon or later some one will be injured or killed by a failure. While we all know that there is risk in our hobby, however the # of failures on this one design cannot be ignored. What I do know, is the consumer protection people take these things very serious and will prosecute if they can see that the suppliers are aware of the problem and do not recall the product. Since there is a long history and hard evidence that they are aware of the problem and do nothing to rectify the issure other than to write letters of denial , they have provided the smoking gun so to speak for the feds should they decided to pursue the issue (I suspect they will not hesitate in this case).
There is a recent example of a treadmill that had a faulty program in it that would cause it to change speeds at random. After the manufacture did nothing to rectify the problem, one individual contacted the feds. Within one week a agent came to the owners home and actually bought the faulty machine from them to use in their case agains the manufacture/distrubtors.
In this case, the risk of injury/death is much greater and the # of people effected can easliy be documented by this thread alone many of which have written evidence as supplied by the customer service department of the product.
Just food for thought.
Best regards,
Randy

Just saw your comment about building a Cactus Aviation Bearcat.
You can build and destroy a hanger full of Thunder tigers for what it costs to build a CA Cat. The props alone are $75 to $100 each depending on what you select. Wheels are over $100 per set Not to mention A $1000 worth of servos and $450 for retracts. But then as you say it is a hobby.
Here is my DA-150 powered Cat.

On the positive side...The wings and gear mounts held up very well, The stab looked great with the mods, but with the engine getting driven all the way throught the firewall and ripping through the fuse...she's a total loss.
That's why they call this a hobby...I have some great pictures of her, she'll be remembered. I think next winter, I'll build a Cactus Aviation Bearcat. Now that's a thing of beauty.

I am in the process of trying to locate the agency, I heard this info on the Clark Howard radio broadcast, but I was driving and could not write it down. I may have to contact his show manager to get the info.

I totally support Bluestratos.
The Thunder Tiger has designed a really bad airplane with the Rare Bear and this is something that everybody should agree, so it is not normal that just due to a overpowered Race Model Airplane, it causes crashes and stab failures in flight.
Definitivelly, I WILL NOT BUY ANY OTHER THUNDER TIGER PRODUCT.
