I might suggest a cox .049 - I think a norvell would be overpowering it.

Of course, these aren't in the suggested range, so it would probably void the warranty (as if there actually is one).

All seriousness aside - I think my Bear might be about ready for the air again...

Has anyone put a Tettra tank in their Bear? Seems like some more mods are required - perhaps drill a hole in the firewall?

I'm thinking it would fit good sitting up above and behind where the original tank was mounted. It will sit on top of the wing tube and butt against the cross supposed of the internal frame. Wrap it in foam and zip ties, what do you guys think?

Big nasdy,

Where in Texas are you located ?? For some reason your Avitar looks very familiar, like I might have seen a pic of your FW-190 (Is it a Pica Kit ?) in one of the LHS in Houston.

OS 160 with Bison Pitts is perfect. It provides the exact right amount of weight you need in the nose to balance correctly. If you opened up your stab and beefed it up, you won't have any problems. Just remember to add wing bolts too. The stock setup with the screws starts to wear and the wings get loose.

I have been flying mine for over a year and have no problems. It screams with the OS 160.

Yeah right, don't fly it, and remember all is needed is to know that you saw this thread, and you assumed the risk to fly it. I like the property I own and my lifestyle... AMA will have every right not to pay an insurance claim because of your knowing the aircrafts many short comings. The potential for damage and injury.....It is simply not worth it.

Good Luck to all, who dare..................

P.S. I have gathered enough info to file against ACE/Thunder Tiger...........and as soon as the New Year.... I plan to do so...............

JWORTNER....good to see you back on the thread!
My original bear collapsed on the Sierra gear and flipped over....CG got off somehow, Next flight...way tail heavy...I think the 160 exited the tail section!
Just bought a new one..(under $250), ay my LHS.

What Prop did you put on your OS160?
Thanks man...
By the way...send these new guys on the thread a link to your Rare Bear Video...it's pretty cool.
Thanks,
Dudley

That would be awfully heavy, wouldn't it? You'd be looking at 13lbs or so finished.

True, but would give off an even nicer noise than a nitro!By how much is 13lbs heavier than a nitro powered bear?

Thanks

I have a YS 110 in mine, tipped the scale just about 12lbs, but that was before the last round of mods, I'll have to weight again.

The Rare Bear will work perfectly all day long, as long as you do the proper mods and keep the speed below 120 mph. I would still be flying mine had I been content to that but I was having fun with the lil toni's and shoestrings.

The OS 160 is the perfect match for that airplane in my opinion, as long as you keep the 3 blade prop(16x8) which will keep the speed in the range of about 115mph which is still pretty respectable. I was running a two blade 15x11 prop and flying at 130 mph when my stab let go. That is just too fast for that airplane, even with the mods. BTW.. my speeds are not ball park figures, they are per my radar gun.

Did someone say there is a sale on RB's?

hi all,

in europe the RB has a new stronger stab and is available now at the dealers.
the carbon spares are stronger and i has bigger and dounble wood where the hinges are.

the dealers offer also a free upgrade for existing kits, somebody had writen something to TT that they react now.

i found this info in a german modell mag. FMT 01.06

This has ben a very interesting thread. I am surprised how Thunder Tiger is reacting to the design defect and wouldn't be surprised to see a class action lawsuit if they continue to play opossum.

Great job guys on the modifications. I still am thinking about getting the kit just for the engineering challenge. No, we cannot fly it light an Unlimited because it just wasn't designed for those types of stresses, but it is great that Ad pushed the envelope of the plane so that we now know how far we can stress the model with the mods done.

What is interesting is that without modifications, which void the warranty if done, the model won't survive simple, common manuvers. I have always liked Thunder Tiger engines and thought they had great quality and service and am surprised by how they are reacting to the problems that some are experiencing with this model.

Sorry if I mislead you, I read in a few posts where the poster is being led to beleive that if they modify the plane, and if still fails, that the manufacturer will not honor the warranty, thus why they are getting brushed off by TT. I only have the disclaimer from TT on for my Pro .46, which has a whole list of details explaining that if I do anything to alter to factory configuration such as put on a aftermarket carb, or use 90% fuel instead of 10%, they will not honor any defects in the engine such as a crack caused by a poor casting.

I would be happy to report to the consumer protection agency my experience with Thunder Tiger and ACE RC. I have still not herd from them about the bill I sent for the full refund of the plane and cost to repair my Saito 150 and Futaba radio and the many hours I spent building the plane.

They still have not flown one of those planes, constructed as explained in their plans, more than 4 flights without a failure. If they had they would have written back and told me about it.

Please include my experience in the class action suit if any are started.
