How do you like the Extra? Does it do aerobatics tons better than the Twist? (i.e. more scale)

Feel free to post any pics you have of them. If you couldn't tell already, me and fyrwalker are some picture-posting son-of-a-guns.

I dislike my Extra! [:@] The ONLY thing I like about it is low fast fly-bys. It doesn't do any aerobatics for me. I can only give it 3/8" of up and down elevator or it will snap like crazy! It looks good lets leave it at that. I seem to be that only person on earth that feels this way. I haven't flown the Twist yet. I will most likely wait for this weekend to try that.

This plane is very flyable on MAX throws. I no longer own one, went to the bigger F90, but I really wrung mine out when I had it. I gave it all the throws it could do with CA hinges and at times, at least to me, it wasn't enough. I saw a guy at our field use the very small robart hinge point, screw a Saito 100 on the nose and I swear he had 80+ degrees of throw on the elevators and 50+ on the ailerons and the rudder would all but hit the elevators at full throw.

Dang thing was amazing to see fly [X(]. I remember is first flight. He go a hold of some really tall CF gear and had a 16x6 prop on it. Started it up, had it idling reall nice and low, untied it from the ground stake, looked away to grab his radio and the thing started to move away, yes slowly, thankfully it was heading right out onto the runway and no one but him and I were there. Funniest thing I had seen up to that point.

I will admit it was a blast of a plane. I do kinda miss it but I like my F90 just as much

I bet that was awesome to see that kind of throws and power at the same time on a Twist!

He ended up pulling the firewall out of it. He was hovering nicely and decided to see just how fast it will pull out and gave it full throttle. It was a site to see the engine go vertical and the plane drop to the ground. [X(]

This alone was unusual for this person as he overpowers everything but usually practices great throttle management. I actually did get to fly the plane and it was a blast. Hover at 1/4 throttle, pull out well at just a few clicks over that. Would settle into a harrier just nice, flat spin well and a host of other things.

He ended up getting a 60 UCD and putting in the Saito 100 which he still flys to this day.

Hey, sounds like someone needs to make a video!!!!! If I had a camera that can connect to my pc I would have tons of vids, but unfortunately, im poor, 30%ers are cleaning me out. I have sold EVERYTHING I have except for my twist, my 35% carden edge, and a flight pack for a 35% airplane to buy the cap 580 w\ the matt chapman scheme!!!

apc 12x4 was not on the survey as an option - order one 12.25x3.75 and one 12x4. the 12x4 spools up a bit quicker on the 50sx.

Sounds like he knows from experience. Try both, see for yourself. I will get a 12x4 when I get my .51 mounted and see how it acts on it. Thanks for the input!

That looks sweet RCBOZO! Personally, I'm ok w\ my .46ax, it could use a tuned pipe for extra power but I like the way the twist flies w\ a 46.

At 5 1/4" you're gonna be able to do some flat spinnin for sure! Be careful on landings though. Make sure you don't run it too low of fuel either until you get real used to it. Be safe, not sorry. That's too pretty a plane to crash soon....besides, Barbie doesn't need any injuries!

No problem, glad you like it. I would have posted the link but I think the bandwidth ref at my ISP would get me! With all the hits this thread gets I would probably go over my limit.

Since the Barbie Fairy lost her wings, she can now fly again with the help of the Twist....I see your plan.

Hey Ghee I can move my battery up about 1 1/2" up further to the firewall. Do you think that would make much difference with balance / stability?

Here's the deal....

If you measured your CG with an empty tank and it's at 5 1/4", then you should be fine. Fill your tank and it will be probably 4 1/2" or so. As the fuels gets lower the CG creeps back. As long as you are comfortable with it there it's OK. You will need to land with a little power in it, but not much. With idle, it will balloon up on you when you flare it in and you might stall it.

Now if you measure your CG with a full tank at 5 1/4" then you should really make some weight changes. As your fuel gets lower your CG will probably go to nearly 6" which would be INSANE!!!![:@][X(]

ORIGINAL: glowplug

I think that many people are crashing their twist on landing due to "pancaking" the plane. You have to remember that the Twist has A LOT of drag......especially when we use big, 3-D friendly props. With a rearward CG, the plane will slow to a crawl, but then it will just drop without warning. You need to keep some throttle into this plane on landing.....I usually cut my throttle right before touch down, and it's still flying very slow. The Twist is not a "chop the throttle and glide it in" plane.
just like glowplug said several pages ago....

You know I have been re-reading this thread, at least the last few pages and you guys are forcing me to go get another one. I do have the F90 but I liked being able to toss the Twist into the truck (didn't have to take it apart) and head to the field and beat the living crap out of it.

So I blame it on you guys for me having to go spend 90 bucks to get a new one. Nah, just kidding Make that a couple of hundred because I also need a new engine to go with it. Servos, receiver, and all of the other goodies I already have.

Thank goodness my other half understands this addiction.

Ha Ha!!! bubba, that's too funny!

If you didn't want to get another, you probably would've never hung around this thread. You know you want it, now go get you one!

About the "other half"....I usually tell her something like this.... " I COULD be out doing other things like bar-hopping and running around " (you can use that one if you ever need it)

I did that once and had to ask (beg) to be let back into the house... Learned my lesson on that one. She has her quilt making so I have my flying. It all works out in the end.

Just had my LHS order another for me since the one they had in stock is now gone . Now I am trying to decide on a Saito or another OS46AX with the APC 12.25X3.75 prop. That's what I had before (OS46AX) and it was a great combo.
