Well Ive mounted the jerry cotter tailwheel, filled the seams on the firewall and primed and clear coated it, order modelgrafix decals and are in the thoughts of two piece wing. epoxie the jointers in one wing panel and the reenforcement plate mounted only to one panel using the dowels and wing bolts to anchore the wings to the fuze, son wants me to open the upper wings up where the servo wires exit about an inch or so square, put in a t-nut and 1/4 cap screwto join the wings togather this is for transporting the wings. Hi Jim.

After seeing how this wing is constructed and how weak it actually is, I would strongly suggest that you don't try 2 piece wing. It may work but would scare me to try it especially if you end up on a day that gets real bumpy.

I had thought about doing the same thing when I put my ryan together and now am glad I did not. It would take a lot of rebuild work to make it strong enough.

That's my opinion though. If you do it I hope it works. It is a pain to take this plane to the field.

Have fun and happy flying.

[] RYANPILOT, thanks for your thought and Iam also thinking on the same lines. my oldest son was against from the first, but let me run with it awhile till I see what Iam about to get into, my problem is transportation and should have thought of this befor selling the truck, hummm, will join them as per instructions, dont want any self built problems! thanks for your opinion, builder JIM

Just an update on my Ryan STA and the wing repair.

I was amazed that the spars in the wing are all balsa, not a stitch of spruce or hard wood in there. There are a few lite ply doublers on only a few of the ribs.

Just thought you may all want to know that little tid bit.

I'm always nervous flying/landing because I'm not the most gentle pilot. Thanks for the pep talk.

I have Robart struts on my STA-M and did a bad take off that ended in the ground. I ripped both landing gear out but damage was not that bad. Just glued it all back together. It has a pretty flat glide so I do wheel landings and pull up gradually as the wheels touch because it wants to tip over. Its a very graceful flier. Its not over built but its not a fast aerobat either. This is the thrid GP ARF I have and I'm impressed enough that I got the PT-17 also.

I need a 90 degree elbow to mount a Saito 100 muffler in my Ryan STA-M. Have looked in all the wrong places I guess. Peter B. Jasper,Tx.

You don't need one if you are using the stock engine setup. I assume you want to eliminate the cutout?

I considered a flexible muffler that they put out to do just that but It was too expensive to justify buying it IMHO.

Here's what I did for my Saito 100. It actually helps the cooling having the side hole in place. Not a lot of exit area on this cowl and I did overheat till I cut an extra hole in the front (chin and "non-scale" location as described in the manual).

There's a write up on this site or RC Groups, that I found. They used RTV silicone to help hold the pants on and make it kind of a soft mount. They claimed that they didn't have any issues. I'm going to try it on mine. If I remember correctly, they used the Robart struts. The only thing is the RTV is heavy so I would immagine that it should be used sparingly. I also can't attest to its bond holding when fuel seepage starts. I'm making mine electric so it's a non-issue for me.

Also- Download the instruction book for the STA-M from the GP web site. There are additional building tips and instructions that are not in the STA manual. I found this out by accident when I thought I was getting an STA-M instead of an STA. I would not have known otherwise. I thought the plans would be the same.

The STA-M manual calls for adding additional fiberglass and filler reinforcement around the mounting areas of the wheel pants.

Check this out too! www.geocities.com/jbrundt2/ST-M.html

I have the STA-M and use Robart struts. I did not use screws for the pants. I used E6000. One side has come lose with the covering so I put pin holes in the Monocote at the junction of the pant and CA'd the pin holes. Then I reglued the pant using E600. The other side is holding up. I just glued the front and each side in the back. Just enough to hold it on but hopefully not a pain to remove if I have to access the struts. A very nice flying plane! 120 Laser glow fuel.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is E6000? Is it a silcone adhesive? I was thinking about this for my STA I haven't finished yet. Looking for a better set up for the wheel pants.
