I'm new to gas and I think I've made up my mind on which ARF to go with,( Lanier 73" Edge 540T). While I was looking for a 2.4 gasser to go into it, I came across the Taurus 2.6, would this be a good combination, would a 2.6 be to heavy or to strong for this model? They also have a 2.4, but I thought I'd go with the additional .8 hp for a few more $ unless someone gives me a good reason not to. What am I going to have to do to the firewall to go with gas anyway with this model? Would Hitec 605's be adequate? Any response would be greatly appreciated.

2.4 or 2.6,either is too heavy for this plane. This plane is not as large as other 1.20 size planes. The H-9 Cap or Edge dwarfs this plane. While it is an awesome flying plane,it will be too heavy for good 3D with the gas engine.I had one with a Brison 2.4 and it flew great but would not 3D well at all.If all you want to do is spins, snaps, etc.it will be fine, but if you want really good 3D,it will suffer, hover will be OK at best, but the other stuff, elevators, harriers,,etc.will not be there. The OS 1.60 is a much better engine for this plane.I know you want Gas,but this is not the plane for it.I used to argue with all the guys who said that the 1.20 planes were too small for gas,but I did it anyway, and was convienced it was me why they wouldn't 3D,it wasn't until I finally flew a H-9 Edge with a 1.60 that finally convienced me.There will probally be plenty of guys who will reply and say that I am crazy, that their planes do fine with gas,but I bet they consider a 15 second vertical position a hover!I don't mean to be cocky, but I've been there,on both sides, trust me.

15 seconds?? I can't hover that long! Don't know for sure about this topic, but I am in the middle of putting a MVVS 2.15 gasser on a Creek hobbies Extra 330L. I am not sure what to expect but you guys can expect a full review once I get to fly it a few times. I would have to dissagree that the H9 Cap and Edge dwarfs the Lanier Edge. I now have a H9 Cap and I used to have the Lanier Edge. A friend of mine has a H9 Edge. The H9 planes are a little larger but I would not say that they dwarf the Lanier. IF you want a real 3D monster put a Saito 180 on a Goldberg Ultimate. I have that combo and it is really a fun combo. Good luck on whatever you choose.

Maybe dwarf was a bit strong, but it is considerablly smaller than the others.I have had two H-9 Caps, the Lanier Edge,Ultra Stick 1.20 and built the H-9 Edge,Sig 231ex,qnd Sig Extra 300xs for friends and the H-9 and Sig kits are just beefier, fatter and wider in the fuse especially.I am curious to see how your Extra does with the MVVS.I am building the Creek Katana, and considered the MVVS 1.6 but didn't think it would have enough 3D power, and the 2.15 weighs almost as much as my Brison(I think),let us know how it does.

Hmm. I have a Katana on order into which I'll be installing an MVVS 1.6. I'm estimating that it will end up around 13 lbs, and should be quite aerobatic with an 18x8. I hope.

I considered the H9 Edge, but a 1/4 scale 1 piece wing would be a pain in the culo to haul around. Would the H9 Edge be a better ARF for gas? Should I consider maybe a Lanier CAP 232? I'm gonna go measure the space in my Blazer.

jmiller, the Lanier 80" Cap is a much better choice for gas,but you need a 3.2,I had one with a 2.4 and it flew but needed more power, plus I had to add weight to the firewaal to balance. You might want to check out www.giantscaleplanes.com they have a variety of 80" planes that are designed for gas 3.2.I beleive they are made by the same people that make the Creek kits,China Models. The difference between these and the 1.20 planes is that they are desiged for gas engines.I think you will be much happier with one of these, and you are right, the one peice wing is a pain!I don't know the site address, but I am sure someone can give us a link to Dick Hanson models,on it he has a H-9 Edge with a ZDZ 40,which I believe is lighter than the others we spoke about,Dick knows his stuff, and he recomends not putting a gas engine on this plane. If I find the link,I'll send it to you.
