I read somewhere where somebody has made some spare canopies. You might want to read around. I'll let you know if I come across it again.
Ohh, DUH....it's about five posts north of mine. Not too hard to find!
By the way, I put a WANTED ad here in RCU to try and find another one, I'm sure there are a few out there to be had, just gotta find them.

Jim,
I noticed that post, thank you- but sending canopies to Australia is likely to cost a lot in postage.
I think there is also stock of spares here locally, so I don't worry about it too much.
Honestly, the canopy looks just fine the way it is ..... I have flown this plane almost to death so there is a bit of the inevitable wear and tear .... the canopy is just another battle scar to be proud of

I had two <place>Corby</place>’s. Unfortunately I wrecked them both but its one of best planes I have ever owned. I bought a Troll pilot for it off eBay; he came with a pilot’s jacket. He survived both wrecks so I retired him. After about a year and a few other planes I realized how much I missed my <place>Corby</place>. I want looking for another one but obviously they are hard to find. One thing I don’t understand if the little <place>Corby</place> was not selling and got discontinued why would Hobby People turn around and make a bigger one for a lot more money? Go figure!</font></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><font size="3" face="Times New Roman">So I searched the internet and literally called hobby shops all over the <country-region><place>USA</place></country-region>. I finely found one in a neighboring state but the small shop doesn’t ship. And so I tried to find some who was traveling their and maybe they could bring it back with them…no luck. After bugging the shop owner for a few weeks he said he was planning a trip to <place>S. My ears perked up…I said yes and I have looking for one for months. He hadn’t been around much and had missed my inquiries. Anyway he said he had one that he wanted to sell. Trying to slow my heart down I asked how much. He said $125, without hesitation I said yes. He said he would bring it to the field next weekend but I couldn't wait so I said lets go to your house now. So finely I have another one.</font></p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"><font size="3" face="Times New Roman">The one in the hobby shop is still there but I’m not telling were because as soon as I have the dough and a way to get there I’m going to buy it too. Hey Jim I was born and raised in San Antonio. Graduated from St Gerard’s High in 1966 and after the Army I moved out here to So. Cal. but I do go back there every Christmas if I can. Were do you fly out there. I tried (not really to hard) to find a place there to fly. I haven't been driving out there anymore so I don't have anything to fly at a field anyway. I just wanted to hook up with some fellow RC’ers, just to hang out and BS about planes and things. To bad Central Hobbies closed I liked going in there and talking to the old man. He had an old yellow Bryon Staggerwing there that I really liked. He said one day some guy he didn’t know walked in and asked if he want to buy it. He wouldn’t tell me how much he paid but the guy needed some money so he gotit for a song and dance. I tried buying it from him one time and this is what the he told me. He said if there was a fire there he would grab that plane and leave his wife behind so… His son lives out here and he told me that he keep a lot of those special planes.
Anyway it nice to know there is a few people that appreciate a good plane and the Corby is one!
Happy Landings!

When you're out here and you want to spend a few hours getting to know the RC scene around here let me know. I'll take a day off and we'll drive around and I'll show you some of the fields. There are a mess of them. Let me know what you like and we'll make sure you get to see that!
Just try and give me some warning so I have time to plan things.

I've a 52/70 Corby that flies like a dream after reinforcing the landing gear (aluminum "L" brackets for a longer lever arm) and repainting the fiberglass (it fades to a mustard yellow color). I also have two of the 52/70 Corby ARF's NIB, and though the canopies are cracked I have better(thicker) PET spares made from a plug ofan original canopy. I could be persuaded to part with one of them, but for a fair price and certainly not thefire sale some folks expect. These are unique planes and terrific 1/4-scale flyers- if you're interested, send me a pm.

I stopped by the hardware store one day after flying and had them match the covering on the wing. It's a Benjamin Moore exterior latex (semi-gloss), Base N096-4B, and the code was GY 1+, WH 12.5, and YW 2x18 +1/4, for what that's worth. Yellow can be a tough color to paint and I'd recommend a nice white primer to start. I thinned it pretty well to airbrush it on, and gave it plenty of time to harden (~2 weeks). Made a good winter project up here when it gets too cold to fly. I havea quart of the stuff and can send you some - let me know if you're interested.

I started out with a 13x6 APC prop for a season or two, per recommendation in the manual. We've a pretty short field (300', with a 200' runway) and the Corby likes to glide, so these days I run a 14x5N APC prop. It's more expensive (about $10) but the plane slows down for landings much better, especially on calm days. Plus it gives a bit more thrust for aerobatics.

Thanks, Bill, I haave a couple of 14x4's and I used to like the combination pitch props, on my OS 90 4 stroke, so I'm gonna try a 13 x 6-10, too.
Can't wait to get mine together!

Today, I dropped into a local hobby shop to see if they has the big Corby and they has stock of both sizes.
For anyone looking for them, the website is www.coltaylormodels.com
I was lucky enough for "the boss" to give me an instant budet for the big version. I now have "big pland and little plane"
Now, all I have got to do is pick a nice gas engine for the plane, hopefully something in the 40cc range.
