SAlty ... I am not too keen on 28% yet as the hobby room is still full of planes NIB. I am taking my new Edge 540 (60) up today and hopefully next week my 25% Laser 200. I am now eyeing the new WM 27% Ultimate, that is really cheap!

To load a photo:
click on the 'Click here to upload' thats below
Box will open and you'll see 4 Browse buttons
Click on one to open up your pictures you have loaded in your computer
Then click once on your pic you want to highlight in blue
Then click your open button that you should see (this attaches it)
then repeat if more than 1 photo and then click the ok in the same box when done
It sounds harder than it is. This is how I do it on Windows XP.

I Have the rambler with a side mounted saito 72. I love the way the plane fly’s. It is a smooth flyer and fairly fast. I love using the retracts plane looks great with them up. But I have gotten very frustrated landing on our grass field with it as it likes to nose over. I have been flying lately with the wheels bent forward and have not used the retracts however I do want to start using the retraces again. I had to replace my retracts once and wm sent me a new pair but with thinner wire so they bend fairly easily. Correct me if I am wrong but I think if I move the cg back just slightly it will help with landings. I probably have about 40 or 50 flights on her.
Best,
Rob

One good way to assist in keeping the plane from tipping over is to land with some power, just a little bit, maybe one or two clicks more. Guess landing on thick grass is no fun.

And now for some pictures of a Rambler without her clothes!!
You can see the plates I have added for strength after the bingle, & it gives evreyone a chance to see what is under the covering.
Hope you all like them....

Dan,
Plane looks sweet with the engine inverted. I think I'm going to switch mine before I fly it and mount the fueler on the bottom.
I have a metal brace to mount it on, I use to just attach them to the cowl but after seeing the cowls flex I started looking for something else to attach them onto. Saw a few things that were built out of wood but then saw a small piece of aluminum bent at an angle and said, "Why not?"

Salty- I used glow plug extention cause it was a pistol trying to get the glow plug battery under the inverted engine. I never had to flip plane over to get it started like some people do with an inverted engine. Also, never a flame out either with the Saito .56. Heres apic to show you were I put it. I like the open cockpit because its more nostelgic like I think this plane is. The directions show an open cockpit but I notice most people aren't doing it. If you do, be careful because I cracked it when I cut it. I just added some pin stripes were it cracked, turned out fine. I didnt have any problems cutting the first canopy. Guess I could of used one of those curved sissors. This is my second due to a nose over before I did the retract mods.

Dan,
I went with the close cockpit, I put a pic of it on this thread. I think the open ones look nice but I'd prefer the closed.
I'll have to see how much of a hassle it is with the engine inverted to get the plug on. I had a few that I had to play with when it came time to start and they worked out alright.
We'll see.

I'm gonna try to make this my second plane. Will this servo work for the retracts good or should I get a better one.

My last plane was an LA flyer 40, it's still there, probly gonna sell it.

Of course it will work ... the WM retract for the Rambler is very light and smooth, enjoy your plane, she is very nice to fly. Don't forget to hold some UP elevator when you are rolling out if the field is slightly rough, if not she will topple over, then just before the plane rotates, release some of the UP elevator if not she will jump up into the air. Its not hard to fly her ... just some little tips to make your take offs sooooooo professional

Are they any other planes similar to this one, I really like the WM Red Dago Mustang and it looks alot better, but it looks way small at the field. I use a paved runway.

Ed - P51 as a second plane can be hairy ... if you are really good on your trainer then I think you can do it. The Rambler is a much better low wing trainer than the WM P51 ... landings are easier and more forgiving with the Rambler.

I am REALLY good with the trainer and I can do some 3D on the parkzone typhoon (which I don't like). I think I could do it, but it I saw the Red Dago Mustang once at the airfield and it looked way small, how does this one compare in size to it?

Thought I would revive this old thread as it was a lot of help when I selected my first low wing plane. Love the Rambler 45. I wish they made a bigger version of this plane. I have a saito 72 in mine mounted on its side and its perfect for the airplane. Engine quit last week and have sent the engine in for service. I think mabey it was overleaned as I was having a more experianced club member tune it when it died. Oh well live and learn...wasnt his fault, I should have had a tach to tune it. I wonder if saito will warranty this. Its 2 months new. Anyone have xperiance with saito and a warranty of this type?
