The G51 was more than enough for it. However I have just finished putting one together for myself that has an OS50SX in it and mini servos with a 4.1kg pull at .16 seconds at 4.8v. The finished model ended up at 5 1/2lb flies superbly.

I like what I have been reading and thought ................. I have an ASP .75, yea it's old but runs great and has alot of pull. It will take my 23 yr old, 4 rebuild highwing, straight up on takeoff and this "beast" weights in at 9.25 lbs.
So any thoughts of using it in this plane?

The twister is very nose heavy on the ground.
I was running a K&B .48 that was about 20 oz. I wouldn't put anything on the nose over about 25 oz.
I'm seriously thinking about a new landing gear that doesn't have such a sweep to it.

Where is your c of G? at 4 1/2" mine needs a bit of up elevator till its moving then feed it out and its fine, not a problem.
This is one airframe that would be spoiled with a big lump up the front. If you do feel the need then make sure you brace the back end and keep all the linkages tight and seal the control surfaces.

im getting ready to buy a magnum 52 2 stroke and put it in a ohio model planes yak-54 profile it is about the same weight as the twister ill report on how well it performs.

how does it compare to the funtana 3d wise. its about the same price and ive seen alot of funtanas here were i am which one is better at 3d flatspins,hover,torque roll etc. thanks alot adam

After reading this thread and checking some photos I see that the landing gear is swept rearward. Has anyone changed the landing gear to a more forward swept style to help with the nose heavy condition?

I'm trying to find a landing gear that looks half way decent, that will do the job. I flat out won't fly the thing until I get a new gear for it. I'm glad i fly off grass, I would have probably lost 4 or 5 props if I was flying off asphalt.
The last time I took it out, one of the wheel pants ripped out and flipped over like a ski. I got fed up with trying to repair it and took them off. This plane has been a real pain.[

If you are having problems with the plane pitching over it sounds very much like your c of g is to far forward. We have several flying from our sight, grass strip, none have had the problem you have experienced.

well today was the last day for my Twister. Should have stayed home. Took her up and made a pretty abrupt turn when heading back towards the filed using rudder/aileron ( I always coordinate rudder with turns), but seems like I used too much rudder. plane stalled, tip dropped and down she went.[:@] I was actually surprised it wouldn't recover, as I was about 50ft high and nose down. Pulled back on the stick a little thinking it would come out, but no dice. Straight in. I wish I had my camera. Took the gear out and engine and tossed the heap into the can.
Don't know if I want another or not. I bought the plane mainly to learn 3D with and I was just getting to feel more confident with it. It does fly a lot like some of my pattern planes, but maybe I'll replace it with a true 3d. Was checking out the MT Magic.

Used Sullivan flying wires. On the bottom, the wires attach to the little plate, and are screwed into the fuse.
I also noticed that it takes a while for the plane to recover. I didn't think it would have much problem looking at the size of the control surfaces. Sorry for your loss.

Hi.I think it may well have been the stab[liser that let go.I had the same experience just recently and on investigation of the remains it seems the actual stabiliser broke off on the R/H SIDE FIRST and about 100yds. further on the L/H stab.let go.It seems there is a stress raiser area where the stab joins the fuselage that needs some attention.At the time of the failure the plane was just exiting a cuban 8 at a moderate speed and it was on it's 3rd flight.Broke a new 70 ultimate as well.Bugger.

Ok guys I am about 90% thru the build on the Twister...The CG according to the manuel is 4" from the leading edge, at this measurement the plane is seriously tail heavy..Have been reading thru all the posts and most people are saying its nose heavy or about right...Has anyone else had this type of weight issue?>

I have found the CG about right at 4", what I have noticed is that the plane flies much better with a smaller engine and the weight kept down, with an OS50 mine will knife edge loop quite easily and stall it, it needs 1/2 a turn to recover.

I have an extra OS .46 AX laying about and plan on using it in this plane. But was thinking about a little larger engine like a .OS 61 to offset tail weight. But not sure if the plane could take the extra stress of the larger engine...any thought on this matter?

I am currently flying a twister with a Super Tigre G90 and its awesome, ballistic vertical and it ballances right in the middle of the recomended range with the receiver and battery as far back as you can get them. If you are worried about the exta weight of the engine you just need to compensate in other areas, I run a timber prop (14x6) mini servo on throttle a light receiver (eg hitec electron 6) and made up my own 6v AAA receiver pack.Hope this helps.
