Sine the money difference isn't that great do you guys think that putting the DL-55 on it instead to compensate for the weight would be a better plan or does having to much power open a whole new can of worms?

Today I picked up my DLE30 and wow is all I have to say. I saw the O.S. gasser today too and I want to build a plane just to fly that. beautiful! I think O.S. will build all size gas engines in the near future and when they do, I'm getting one or two. Picked up spektrum 6020 servo's too so the plane is coming along. Was told though a smoke system would probably be pushing the limits of the wing load. Bummer!

Can anyone post pictures of there set up using the DLE 30 and where everything is mounted please? I have went thru some threads and it sounds like I might have trouble balancing since I put servo's in stock locations in the tail?

I started on my Giles 202 & it looks like I will need to mount the engine forward as much as possible & the cowl. I may use pull-pull on the rudder. Also there is a way to do pull-pull on the elevator with a neat device. Look back & read all the postings...it should be there in a photo. The fuel tank will be forward too. I am in Florida right now....be a couple of months before I get back & working on my G202...back in Mich. Capt,n

I think the pull-pull is a great idea, unfortunalty mines already mounted. I having been giving it a lot of thought on how to mount the DLE 30 and this might be a stupid question but no matter how its mounted the center of the engine has to be in line with the center of the firewall right? I was thinking mounting the 30 upside down and if the cowl will still fit I saw some longer stand offs to extend the 30 out further? Thanks Captn!

Tri-Angle stock and some epoxy in all the nooks and cranys for mine. I only have about 25 flights on my Brillelli 46 but it did take a hard prop strike and the motor box held up. Engine timing went south.

I am going to add 3/4 dia hard wood stand offs to get the engine forward. Cut them to length. Buy longer bolts and use good sized washers on insde of fire-wall. To find center of cowl...take a flat peice of wood a little bigger that the footprint of the engine. Use a cardboard template to mark engine bolt holes in the flat piece of wood. Glue a 1/4 inch dowel on center. Place the cowel in place with the dowl on center of the hole for your prop shaft. Mark the holes using this device on the fire-wall. Now when you place engine on fire-wall it should be close to the right center alighnment. Now you can understand what I am try to say....not good at explaining on-line. Capt,n

I have some pictures to post as promised if I can figure it out. I am worried about the space inbetween my rudder. If you look at the plane from the side and look at the top of the rudder, inbetween the top of the rudder and the airplane frame is a gap almost the size of a standard ball point pen. Is that going to cause problems or fluttering?
#989
That sounds like an excessive gap to me. Might be flyable, but it sounds ugly. I would rehinge the rudder if you already glued it in. If you have not glued her in yet, just drill yourself some new holes to close the gap. If you have that large a gap, you have space to drill new holes on either the fin or rudder, and not intrude on the existing ones. My gap is only about 1/16", between the top of fin and the rudder. That pic shows the gap is not bad, maybe only 1/8". I thought you were talking about the entire width of the ballpoint pen. I would leave the rudder alone with that little gap. Jon

Phew! Thanks! I was worried. I'm trying to figure out now how to do my throttle linkage. As you can see in the pic the inside leaver is the throttle and the outside is the choke which is almost a 90 degree angle for the throttle cable coming thru the firewall. Any ideas on how to attach that?

I had a question about the ignition system and wiring. The ignition box has two wires, One red/black and one red/black/white and the DLE 30 has a sensor on the shaft with another r/b/w wire. I then have a 40% remote engine kill switch with one for the power switch, reciever, and power wire on the ignition box? is that right?

Man this forum has really gone cold? Hopefully that means everyone is flying problem free!!!!! I'm getting close to firing mine up. I need a way to drill my prop though. I dont have a drill press? Any ideas? What is a good break in prop? I have an 18x6 now?

Hey Nutz,
I don't think that many guys put gassers in theirs, and that might be why you aren't getting much response here. I'd ask your questions pertaining to the DLE-30 over in the gas engine forum where there is a long thread on that engine. Myself, I only have one gasser and have not even started the engine yet...the plane is done and it has a DL-50 on it. I am not experienced enough with it to offer you any help.
Re the prop, will a prop reamer work for you, or is the shaft too large for the typical glow engine prop reamer? The other option, which I would be forced to use since I don't have a drill press either, would be to enlarge the hole in the prop with a portable drill, in small increments. I think if you do that, you won't get too off like if you were to try to do it all at once with the right size bit. Good luck.
BTW, I notice you are not far from me...you are in Newberg and I am down in Salem. Where do you fly up there?

If you can find a adjustable reamer for metal...it works fine for getting the right prop hole to prop-shaft dia. Do it in small steps...adjusting it as needed.

Right now I don't belong to any clubs. I was thinking of joining Barnstormers but they have a wait list. Ihave flown at the evergreen musuem before but the field has some pretty good size puddles around the runway. I'm going to need to find a good size runway though with this plane I think.</p>

Nutz, you might look into the Flyaways. I used to belong to them when I lived in Beaverton. They fly in a farmer's field off Old Scholls Ferry Rd, just a little north and east of the town of Scholls. That is not far from Newberg! Or hey, join our club, the Keizer RC Association. My friend lives up in Portland near the Terwilliger curves, and he comes to fly with us all the time. Our field is just east of Keizer Station and the I-5 IC. Just giving you more options!

turn the carby up side down
put the motor from the fire wall to the back of the prop 145 mm
and fix the wheel pants not very strong my ones crack in the air on the maiden in the air
