Not sure if this is right forum for this but I had to say something about this company.
I have their edge540 and it is a great plane to say the least. As for their customer support, second to none!! I have had some probs with my plane(no fault of the company)and everytime I have e-mailed them, they were quick to reply and offered to help out anyway they could. Even offered me a discount on a replacement when my wingjoiner broke(again, no fault of the company). I have put this plane through some abuse(rough landings, nosevers on landings, and even stalled it, to only have the landing gear tear off). This company is one of the best when it come to customer satisfaction and they are willing to go the extra mile to make sure all vectorflight owners are happy with their product. If you have a chance to fly one of their planes, I'm sure you wont be disappointed with their performance. Now, all I ask from them is to make some in a 120 size so we can enjoy their product in a bigger version. I know it would be a great addition to MY hangar!!! Thanks again to all the people at Vectorflight!!!!!

I know what your saying ZIPPI. They redone the bellypan, still not perfect but better than the original. As for the wheel pants[:'(] I just took them off. I fly off of grass and dont like them on any of my planes. I do wish they offered other colors but that may be coming in the future from what I here.

I have to agree with you on the quality of the plane from what I have read ggc1962. I was going to buy there Edge 540 but decided not to because of three things. The wheel pants, belly pan and the color scheme. If I were to buy it I would have to recover the plane, buy some nice fiber glass wheel pants and a come up with a better belly pan. By the time I would have done all of this, there are a lot of planes out there for that price that already have the top quality parts included. I'd have to say that Vectorflight has a nice plane for someone looking just for a plane that flys very well and their not to worried about the looks.

You wouldn't have much luck with recovering a Vectorflight plane. The covering is some sort of heavy multilayer vinyl stuck to the surface. This covering imparts a lot of strength and rigidity to the airframe and wouldn't come off without wrecking the plane. Not a traditional shrink covering that could easily be peeled off. I think Henry Ford said (about the Model "A") you can get it in any color as long as its black. The same for Vectorflight except for the colors (red and white).

I have been doing some flying, but with the price of fuel I have been doing more flying at my flying spot here close to my house. Probally head over to the club today, and get some flying in. No hurry on the big Cub. It is just sitting in the hangar, and you can come get it whenever is convient. It will be here! Maybe we can get together and do some flying sometime! Cya

The covering can be removed like any other! I had to recover the bottom of the fuselage and it came off easily. Just outline the area to be removed with a blade and peel off starting from one side.
My bellypan is installed with two thumb screws. Takes about 30 secs to remove or install, no tools required!
GGC, no question this is a great flying plane and their customer service is incomparable!

Removing the covering may not be a big problem with the fuse or tailfeathers but I think that the wing might be a bit more of an issue.
From the VF website:
"At VectorFlight, each wing panel is individually wire cut, not cast molded, from tough foam. Next, channels and cutouts are made for spars, center structure, servo and wires etc. Only carefully selected spars are used for the wing. The wing panels are covered with a heat bonded and pressed laminated skin which fuel proofs and also provides structural rigidity to the wing. The result is a very tough yet light wing."
The strength is in the bonded covering so even if you could remove it without damaging the foam, I suspect you would have to sheet the wing with balsa before recovering in order to maintain the strength and rigidity. Not worth it in order to get a Vectorflight plane that looks different. I might be wrong about this, but I'm not going to try unless I wreck the one I have!

Ross, you are correct regarding the wing, the white wing skin is not removable, it is bonded to the core. However the red trim and black lettering on the wing are removable. I think you may be able to apply monokote or the adhesive backed coverings over the white wing skin as long as you are careful not to trap any bubbles since the skin is non porous.
