Default World Models Ultimate 40S

I intend to order the WM Ultimate 40S in the next few days. I have a few question for anyone who can answer.

Has anyone installed a 2-stoke? Did you mount it upside-down or sideways? I'll be using a GMS40. I would like to go sideways and use the pitts style muffler. My second question is, has anyone tried dual aileron servos yet? And finally, I would like to confirm if a low-profile servo is required for the ailerons.

Thanks,
-Rocko

Hey Rocko

I mounted a TT46Pro sideways with a Pitts style muffler and it works fine. You may have to trim the cowling a little near the prop washer but if you measure correctly you might not. You will definately need a low profile servo for the ailerons as the wings are fairly thin. I think I used a HS-77? Anyway, 3 standard servos and one low profile servo. The plane is a ton of fun to fly and I built it completely stock right out of the box.

Good luck and have fun!

I'm looking for a cheap knock-around bipe that is capable of some mild 3D.

How big are the control surfaces? Have you tried 3D? Does it harrier? How about knife-edge flight?

Does it have 4 ailerons or only ailerons on 1 wing? Would it be possible to modify it for 4 ailerons servos and use some HS-81 or HS-225 on all 4 surfaces?

I'd be using something more like the OS 50 given my altitude.

Flight report please.

Thanks a bunch.

G'day,

I first mounted a Magnum .52 FS inverted in mine and flew it for a few weeks. It was great! I then took the FS out and mounted a SuperTigre .45 2 stroke sideways with a Pitts and it is even better. I did have to cut into the front of the cowl to allow for the carbie, but it only meant enlarging the breather that is already there. I fitted a standard servo in the wing by mounting a plate to give it more height and clearance inside the wing profile. I have put larger wheels on her so she taxiis better and taken off the pants - they don't take much punishment and break up pretty easily.

Rcpilet,

I don't have mine yet but, I think I can answere some of your questiones based on what I have found out from others. If you want 3D performance or fast roll rates, replace the stock ailerons. They are not wide enough for what your looking for. It does have 4 working ailerons but only one aileron servo. I'm told it will knife-edge using stock configuration. I'm still looking for feedback on if two aileron servos can be installed.

Had the maiden on mine last weekend, flies like a dream!
Haven't attempted anything major yet but from first impressions i think i'm gonna really enjoy carving up the sky with this little bipe.
I have fitted mine with a Just Engines .56 engine (a .56 in a 40 size case!) and first flights were done with a 11x6 prop, but will increase this now the engine is a little more run in!
The engine purple color is exactly the same as the covering, and have used a Bison pitts muffler. Have also added some wing wires for a bit of fun.
Servos standard size except wing where i've used a HS225MG which is a perfect fit and gives a good response.
Wing servos could be mounted out at wings using a knife and a little techinque, but i think that the hs225mg gives more than enough grunt for this plane, no need to overspec.
I put another layer of finishing resin on the firewall and used a bit round inside also just to seal up nicely, but was impressed by the quality of this kit, especially for the price.
All up weight (dry) of mine 4lb 14oz.

They say this thing will go up to a 48 size 4-stroke. My dad is thinking about getting one, but he wants to put an OS 70.

Anybody done this?

JF, was the wing incidences right out of the box or did you have to start shimming?

JF,

I notice the fuel tubing out the bottom of your bipe.....whats that!?
How's your tank setup?

Also, did you do the stock split rod for the elevator setup?

I was offered the 40s for an RCU Review, but I chose the 120R instead. It should be arriving this week

Bill
Tailplane incidence, needed a tiny piece of balsa under the starboard side to lift it a little.
Incidence between upper and lower wing, using provided templates made life real easy, i did need to trim a tiny bit off one the cabane struts to get it perfect.

Fuel tubing out the bottom is the filling line, supplied tank gives you option of having 3 connections, so I chose to use all of them.

Yep i used standard setup, even used supplied clevis' ........not something that i'd usually use from an ARF kit, them seem ok, but i'll keep checking them!

Think a SuperTigre .40 would be enough for this plane?

I'll be using a GMS .40. I think they are made by the same people. It should be fine.

Your reply reminds me of something that happened with a secretary a long time ago. I need to preface the story by saying that she was very pretty. I had asked her to do something and she was rather slow getting it done. I sent her a message asking when she would get it done. Her reply contained an apology and said "please bare with me". I've always wondered if I should have taken her up on her offer.

James,

Looking at buying this plane and am just asking around to get a sense of it. Some questions:

1. What would you say your all up weight was with a full tank?
2. What size wheels are they and how do they (and pants) do on grass? My field is a bit rough (two to three inch grass with random small bumps and holes!)
3. I'm assuming it uses ONE servo for the ailerons ... correct?

Thanks,

Colin.

Is this the same Utimate that Raiden Tech offers for 119.00 dollars?

What is the price for the World models Bipe?

Sure does look like it from the photos. Think about the only difference I see in their picture that's different from the WM ARF I'm just now starting to stick together is their model has some names decaled on it. Same paint scheme otherwise. I didn't bother to check the specs because they look so much alike.

The WM is selling for $149 or $159 and there's a $10 shipping charge.

Hey, that Raiden Tech looks decent.

I run an OS 46 AX in my WM Ultimate 40s . Like the last post stated, I placed the battery under the canopy which made the CG perfect with the 46 size engine. I have read several posts where builders are running fairly large engines like the 82 four strokes and I'm a believer in having plenty of power, however, this plane performs great with a 46 two stroke. I selected the OS 46 AX because I've been using one in my Hangar 9 twist for the past year and it has not missed a beat. Its small size fits nicely under the cowl and with a pitts style muffler and an 11 x 6 Master Airscrew prop you have a perfect combination for the weght of this plane.

Out of my performance planes such as the Hangar 9 Extra 260, Twist and Funtana 40, I consider this the most fun in terms of zipping around the sky doing snap rolls and flat spins. It also lands nicely as long as you carry a little speed and even lands well in a dead stick as far as bi-planes go. The only negative is the color scheme as it really blends into sky and it becomes quite difficult to tell which side is up.
