My struts came in today and they are pretty cool. I didn't realize the wheels came with them as well! I was going to order some of the fults nose gear but am glad I waited for these.
I'm going to order the Robart 510s for $115 including the air system. I like the "air up, spring down" option.

Also....are the Magnum .52 4 strokers going to be enough for this bird????
Thoughts?????
Would the .70 4 strokes fit??? ? I see that the firewall is already drilled/tapped with the firewall bolts/stays in there for the engine mount(s)
Will a .70 fit the .52 4stroke mount WITH THE CENTER LINE STILL CENTER OF THE COWEL????????

You can find the 510s on Tower's or Robart's web site. The mounting holes are only 1 3/8" apart so based on my measurement of the Comet gear mounts they will have to be modified. The retracts are rated from 8-12 pounds and should do the trick.
I haven't ordered these yet but should be doing that tomorrow.
I didn't see a finished weight for this plane on the web site but but would expect it to fall into the 12 pound range. I feel the thin tappered wing will let those 52s haul this plane around quite well, not as fast as my Duellist, but fast enough for this scale.
The mounting holes on the 52s are 44mm compared to 50mm on the 70.
That's all from me at 4am!
Can't wait to get started on this plane!

The owner of the factory who manufacture this plane is a buddy of mine. I see him fly this plane at our field many times, and I did try my hands on it. He's using two OS 70 FSII's, with air retracts. The plane's fast and aerobatic, and few times this plane rallied together with other 46 class low wing trainers and "blow their doors off". That plane could loop, roll, knife edge and even snap roll, but slow flying also very stable. The only time I saw it crash is during a photo session the plane have to fly slow low pass for the camera man and one of the engine flame out....Well the guy have a factory full of these planes so its no worries!
Another guy uses twin OS40LAs, fixed gear, and while power is not enough still the plane could manage a few rolls. The next week the owner changed to twin OS50s and it rips the skies, amid with less horses to pull vertical than the twin OS 70 FS...
Now we have 5 other guys at our field having the same plane, different engine setup (two OS 50 twins, one Saito 53 twin, one OS 70 Ultimate twin, one YS63 twin and one Magnum FS61 twin), but all of them opt to have fixed gears as its a pain to watch other guys fly while foot pumping air into the retracts.... We plan to have them fly together sometime later. It would be quite a scene!
My 0.2 cents....

Hi BlackShark:
That is awesome news to hear, I also hear that after talking to the Hobby people that they have one in there back room that has an 8' wing and soon to be released this year. They said the color needs some work but it looks awesome

Edgar,
The Comet could fly quite slow without stall, as another friend who had the twin OS 40 LA could barely put the plane on the sky, and when it flies it's slow as, say, a Piper Cub cruising around, and occasionally one side of the wing would dip a little when he ease down the throttle. The factory owner friend who have the twin OS 70 FS always comes racing down the runway, but then again its more of a pilot style than a necessity I think!

Getting closer to done... A couple shots of the fuse showing the gear tucked in tight including a home made circuit to run the working landing light and nav lights. The hatch between the wing saddle and nose houses the radio on/off switch and charging jack and the on/off switch and charging jack for the lighting system as well as the air valve. Landing light was made from the guts of a cheap flashlight. Nav lights are LED's. All that's left is joining the 3 pieces of the wing, attaching the nacells, and the cockpit.

Used a set of robart retracts I had laying around Don't recall the model number... They are the ones with the plastic bodies 609 or something??? Had to add spacers inboard of the installed retract rails. Servos are just standard ball bearing units everywhere except the elevator and flaps HS645's, and using the flat low profile units on the ailerons. The servos for the throttles and air valve have been modified to use linear outputs. Didn't get the plane done to fly this weekend, and anyway the wind was 20+ today, so wasn't goint to fly it anyway. Next weekend is supposed to be decient, but no doubt the *&%# weather man will turn it to s*** before the week is out. Just once I'd like to see the forcast improve over the week.

Hmmmmmm OK here goes.
I bought one of these guys and am going to put couple AXI motors in them. How electrifying!!
I am watching carefully for any insights on building hints and flying pointers. This place and you guys are great! Hope HP has the struts in soon.
I want to have this flown so I can take it to SoCal scale meet June 10th.

Merlinfan,
I bought Axi 2826-12's with Castle Creation PHX-80 esc's. and 6600 4s3p batteries.
My buddy uses the same setup with a Beaufighter that is heavier and it works fine.
Hope this helps.
