RE: CMPro Lancair
I used a piece of silicon tubing (blue stuff) I had left over from a muffler extension. The slimline muffler is pretty noisy as it is so cutting off the pipes will only make it louder and result in even less backpressure to be supplied to the fuel tank. We are talking about the CMP, not the great Planes Model.

RE: CMPro Lancair
Hey, thanks for getting back on this. I doubt the loss of a bit more tubing will bring up the noise level for one thing. Of course the noise level will be greater than with the stock muffler, this is an esthetics thing. Loss of pressure for the length of pipe we are talking about would be negligible. As I said, I run a 46FX with a real close cut on the pipes in my P-51 and Kyosho Stearman, both motors run fine with the cut pipes, you just need get the mixture right. Big power. Noise level is no worse than my Hanger 9 Cessna with a 46FX with the un-altered pipes. I fly at sea level, might make a difference than a guy in Denver, but not much.

The problem with the nosegear wire is that it is not hard enough. It fails to spring back and tends to stay bent back after a while. Might never be a problem on smooth surface runways, but on grass it can be anoying. I don't think the recommended throws are too bad, but make sure you are safe on your CG. As is typcial with CMP models, the recommendation is too far back. See prior posts to get more details on what works on a nitro powered version.

Yepper, grass raises heck with landing gear, you need really big wheels and stout gear wire, say 1/4" to holdup. Wheel pants are out for sure.
I fly either or at my field. Have great paved runways at my field. And great cut grass for the belly landers....

I maidened my #2 Lancair 360 today (#1 crashed last summer, due to a faulty on-off switch, I believe). OS46FX with 11x7APC prop, Fults double-strut nosegear stuffed down inside the nosewheel strut fairing (the kit-supplied one bends too easily), everthing built stock per the kit. What a nice plane! Big giant zoomies, fast aileron rolls, good slow flight and inverted, lands smooth and easy, really scoots with the throttle open. I do most of my flying at half throttle.
And it looks like a little sports car....

Overpowered,
CG is right at 72mm-- seems just about right to me. I never bother to measure control throws myself, just eyeball them. I'd say they are "moderate".
What engine are you using in yours?

Dgliderguy,
Thanks for the CG.
I have an MDS 68 in mine.
Anyone consider mounting the engine inverted instead of sideways?
I'm considering a second (red white & blue) and I have an MDS 78 but I have an extra exhaust that is inverted pitts style - or the standard muffler?
Eric

RE: CMPro Lancair
well the maiden flight went very scary but did bring it home in 1 piece. the trows were lows on the wings and roll rate was smooth and scale but on the elevator was something else. i set the trows low but it still was to much, so now it is set at 35 % or 7/16in and she flys smooth and landings are much better! the first landing was hard and and front landing gear bent back so im thinking about changing the strut for the from wheel for 1 thats stronger and built in sping for harder landing so if anyone else has info for a good front strut please let me know?

RE: CMPro Lancair
Hey there, i finally maidened mine on the weekend just gone, talk about slippery in the air..i also landed a little hard on my second landing, needless to say i later went and picked up a Dubro front landing gear leg with the pre tensioned spring..much more heavy duty than the supplied one. Mine flew well, just have to tweak the c of g and she will be sweet..just need to fly with a little headwind to bleed some sppeeeeeddd, otherwise i can sense plenty of fun to be had this winter coming..

I found with a number of models with no flaps that making them reflex up with mix switch or what ever., makes them slow much better than flaperon (use up aliron) big improvment.High wing or low wing. Try it you my like it,not scale big deal.
These magic little Lancair's my well need it.
Cheer's.
PS Try it it up high first.

RE: CMPro Lancair
I'm thinking about getting one today. They look pretty good and I hear that there well built. Here's the real McCoy same numbers and all. Has anyone thought about retracts? Would it be worth it? I have a set of Century Jet pneumatic retracts that will hold up to the grass runway at my field. They cost twice as much as the plane.
But I think it could work and how sweet would that be?
