Wow, thanks for the pic wolf123. Do you think the added power of a Magnum 120fs would be a good tradeoff for the weight? What 3D stuff have you been able to do? Will it harrier at all?

Does the model come with decals? In a pic from a distributor I saw "Edge 540" and star on the fin(also some stuff on the cowl). But, I don't see them on yours(I can't really see the fin though).
How much ground clearance do you have with a 15x? prop, could it take any larger?
What don't you like about wing spar?
Thanks!

Sorry for all of the mundane questions, but...
Are the hinge slots pre cut?
adrian : What hardware should I replace; pushrods/control horns/clevises? What type(I know you said Dave Brown/Great Planes), but should I get metal or plastic? I have never changed any hardware out and could use some help picking the right stuff
Are metal gear servos a lot stronger? I can get high-torque, but they have composit gears(acceptable)?

hi ptarp
yes the model come with decal . i think 120 fs is too heavy ,large for engine bay. I try to mount fz91 but engine bay is small. for wing spar i don't like the type of wood, but in generally the kit is well enginereed . with 15x prop i have 3 inch of ground clearance with 2-1/4 inch wheel.for 3d fly you must change the servo position for elevator, if you mount it for plan you have differential for left-right elevator. this week i join l/r elevator with u spar to make identical throw.
sorry for my english
regards mirco

This thread has had more replys than I ever expected it to have!
Thanks to everyone who has responded! I think that I am going to get one now. I am thinking that I am going to put a servo on each elevator and aleron. Then use a magnum 1.08 on it to give it some power but still stay cheap since I plan on hovering this plane and it might get tore up. Thanks again!

What is the wing area for this plane? The HorizonHobby page only listed the wingspan. I have several engines on the shelf that are just a little shy for a 1.20 class aerobat, but might be perfect for one this size.
I almost wanted to buy the GiantScalePlanes Edge 540T - 70.5" a while back, but I was thwarted by all the bad GSP publicity. i'll like to know how these two compare in size and weight.

Engine bay too small??? The specs on the website show that 1.20 fs is still in recommended range. I'll call them to make sure. I checked, and the diff between a 91fs and 1.20fs(Magnum) isn't all that much side to side(1/5"), but it is about .75" taller and about .4" longer. Was the engine that close? I am debating weather I want to have the extra weight though. The Magnum 91fs is only 22.4oz and the 1.20 is 31.08. But, I think the 91fs might be a bit shy on hover power.
I would like to hear any comments on the ability of this plane to 3D(when light). If it won't 3D light, then I won't worry about the extra weight of the engine.
Oh, and is any weight needed in nose when a 91 is used?(or anywhere else)
Were the hinges pre-installed? If not were they slotted? And, is it difficult to install pinned hinges(never done that before)
Thanks guys, this forum is a real life(and money/plane/temper/etc) saver!

wolf123,
I checked @ www.ysperformance.com and it said that a YS91FZ was 120.7mm(4.75") from rear to drive washer. The magnum 120fs is 4.01"(surprisingly). So, do you think it would fit, being 3/4" shorter than the YS?

Oops, I didn't include the carberetor in the magnum specs. DOH! That is gonna suck if you can't even fit a 120 in there(why do they include it in the specs????)

the distance between firewall and spinner right out of the box is 125 mm,consider YS91 have airbox that touch motor mount, the thickness of motor mount(dave brown ) is 9mm. you have 116 mm
of available lenght
this afternoon i make more pics of engine bay and put it

wolf123, is that the "stock" method of engne installation? What is attached to the end of the muffler? Is it included in the kit? Also, are you sure a TT 91 would hover this model at 1/2 throttle? Someone earlier said that a Saito 100 would take 60% throttle. How easy does it pull out of hover? Here is a link that says the specs that I found http://h1070453.hobbyshopnow.com/pro...1025&ptab=tech

no i replaced the stock mount with a dave brown model.attached to muffler is a silicon tube normally used to connect pipe and manifold on 1/8 racing cars. yes my tt91fs with a grauner 14/7 black hover at 1/2 trottle(fuel 20 nitro 20 sintoil 60 alcool). my model weight 3.3 kg. the first ten flight i've used a YS FZ63 but vertical not good (Ys with a 14/5 apc). i don't have use saito 100,normally i use YS on all my model.

it was not a rocket out of hover just OK the 91fx was better. i am positive it will be great with a good 108 smoking with a 1202s , we will soon have a 120 fitted and will post results
on the question of mg servos yes they are much stronger and we use mostly all metal goodies , i have seen to many beautiful planes crash because of clevis failure.

hi adrian
i think if you mount a 120 the model will broke
why your model is 8.5lb? is too heavy
i've mount a 140L on my g-trik but is 4.0kg
my edge is much light.

wolf, a 120 is almost the same spec and weight as a 108/91 we will fly it with great care and then slowly up the speed until we see if a problem shows, i have checked the spec carefully and we have flown the flans with both a saito100 and a os91fx so we are sure it can take more and its more on the vertical maneuvers we want the oompf. about the extra weight we had to add more than 70g in the nose with the 91fx so we are just compensating weight 60g is what the 120 weighs more and getting the extra.
ps nice pic of the ys
