If i had it to do all over gain I probably would have installed the OS 160. The plane would have assembled much neater. With the moki 2.10 I had to modify the motor mount and the muffler never did get right. It looks kind of funny because it comes down the bottom of the cowling crooked.

I have the purple version, it is a beautiful plane, I will start on it after the holidays...I am stuck between a FPE 2.4 gasser or a OS160...I would like to do the OS, but our altitude is 4000 ft and we lose a good bit of power.....I am not into 3D.so if anyone has used the OS 160 at any higher altitude and is satisfied I would like to know...WC

Hey Tocflyer, I am planning using the same setup as you cept will be using futaba servos. Have you started yours yet and what kind of hinges are you using...CA or the metel ones that comes with kit. Did you have to modify the engine box for the 52? Will start mine as soon as it gets here. Will give a progress report.
Thanks, TJ

i used the metal hinges that came with the kit and they seemed to be ok on my edge 540t from AW so i assume that they will work here too. I also glued on the tail as well as used the srews.
I think that the hardware is just absolute CRAP so now everrything is rocket city, nelson, central hobbies, or hangar 9
as for the engine i am planning to mount it tomorrow and i am planning on having to make some mods to the engine box to accomodate

Mine is ready to fly all but some finishing touches.I removed the bolts in the wings and installed wooded dowels down in the wing and cut off flush.I then screwed in an eye hook into each wing half. Now when I get to the field all I have to do is attach the wings together with the spring to each eye hook. I have attached a couple pictures of my new bird. Tivey

Thought I would show you guys a picture of my extra. I will maiden this next week if the weather cooperates.I also wanted to say that I removed the bolts in both wing halves and installed eye hooks in their place. Now when I get to the field all I have to do is hook a spring to the two eye hooks and that will eliminate using those small nuts and washers.Tivey

Looks good there tivey, I take it you are using OS 1.6. Let me know how it flys. Did you make any other mods. Good idea on the eye hooks. How much does it weigh?

Tocflyer....I agree about the hardware. I have a Zen 90 with a YS 120FZ and I replaced all hardware with RC. WM just don't get it when it comes to good hardware, but then again, show me an ARF that has good hardware. Seems to me that the engine box will have to be shorter so the 52 with fit. Let me know about how much you shorten the box. I am gonna use a 22x8 prop...think it will clear the ground? Let me know any other mods you did and the final weight too.
Thanks,
TJ

Default extra 300 modifications

O.K.I placed my rudder servo at the rear on left side of fuse to not have to use pull-pull.I attached a secondary rod to the rudder rod for the ohio superstar tailwheel that I installed. If the pictures turn out you can see this.I also did not do my sheel pants as they show. I used my dremel tool to create a slot in the bottom side.Hard to explain.I bought ultracoat and sealed my elevator and ailerons,so air leakage through was impossible. Also adds to strength.I used a dubro 24 ounce gas tank. Also mounted os160fx engine and used a bisson pitts muffler instead of factory muffler.I did not like the military stars and bars on a non military plane. Didnt seem appropriate.Tivey

Default wm extra 300s

I flew my new wm extra for maiden flight saturday afternoon. It really flew nice with the os 160fx. I was sort of wrried but it was plenty of power.I had it very rich but really had enough power for me.I do not fly 3d though. This bird doesn't need alot of elevator for the average flyer.Be warned.Tivey

TJpro35,
on the motor box if you mount the cowl so that the screws go into the firewall you will get an awesome fit with the engine without any cutting and i think that a 22x8 will clear the ground
the weight is something i will have to get back to you on

i will try to post pics

Thanks a bunch TOC, glad to hear you don't have to mod the box. Pictures would be great when you are finished and get the chance.
Happy Holidays!!

tocflyr540 you got it ready to fly with the Taurus 52 at 15.75 lb.s it should have plenty of power. Did you have to do anything special to get it that light?

Finally got my WM extra in the mail. Starting as we speak.

Hey TOC, did you use the engine mount that came with the kit or are you using the back plate mount that came with the 52? If you used the one from the kit, did you use the isolation mounts?
How did it balance out for you...did you have to add weight to the tail.
I am using the TME smoke system and have a 5301 rudder servo. I am hoping that will balance it out. I think mine will be right at 16 pounds....hoping less but doubt it.

Got the control surfaces all hinged up and sealed and servos in the wing. Still waiting for my RC hardware. I will be gluing the stab on, don't like the setup on the removable stab world has come up with. Besides, it will make it stronger too. I've noticed a little play in the wing tube in the fuselage side. I will add some packing tape and take the play out. Also noticed that the hard plates for the control horns are a little off to the inside. I plan on putting 1in control arms but don't know if that will be 90 degrees from servo since I think the hard plate is off. Will figure something out. I will be using ball ends so it should be ok.
Other then that, kit seems to be good. Hopefully my RC hardware and engine will get here soon.
Let me know how she flys TOC
