OK Waldo EXCELLENT Show. I'm no computer wiz but this is for you (click on attachment). I just thought I would show some pictures of our runway, It is our back yard, 330' long & 300' wide.
notice the windsock behind our house. The OldLady has been painting lately so I thought I would show off her work.

Great job flying Waldo! It looked like you had a beautiful day and your hands full with that one.

Nice yard 2HI. I'm surrounded by fields but landing in the yard is like threading a needle.
Not to mention the power wires that grabbed my T-t from the air last week.
My legs are weak with every landing.

Wow, that was awesome! You sure didn't fail to disappoint. What a hair raising flight. I thought you lost it there when you came around after the first pass and it drop about 2/3rds of it's altitude in about 1 second. I am impressed with your skills, I think I would have freaked out and lost it. Nice tribute as well.

well Thank you all for all the support and comments,,, Dang you guys are going to give me a big head, but thats okay, LOL it can easily be done with a can of air in the left ear. All I know is I'm glad the thing took off and found its way around for a few minutes, now we can all move on to the next T_ _ _ Taholic phase.

Downt yes it was a ride alright, but I decided I'm going to move some weight forward and try again this Saturday, I think I have a few valves left on my heart that aren't leaking yet. besides I have to be able to taxi that thing back or my mission won't be complete.

Kerwin thanks for the Alternater tips, after reading the voltmeter on the battery which wasn't reading well, then climbed under the van and tried to even find the wires wedged all under the frame and between the radiator ratiator covers and whatever else they could have put in the way, I charged the battery for 2 hours and drove the thing to the Ford dealership to let them deal with their product.. problem solved.... wallet emptied... Happy Waldo it just doesn't matter....

2Hi2C My Chihuahua and I are singing together,, lol,, something about that midi song caught his ear so he started to sing so I joined in knowing how it feels to be the only one singing, we sang the whole song, thanks for the words I never could remember anymore then the first couple of lines. now I should have got that on film.
and That is a BEAUTIFUL place to fly ! wow what a runway, you are in heaven right there I'll tell you.[8D]

DT ... Thanks for the offer to send over a prop. I just have to get enough things on my wish list to make it worth while getting a package over from Tower. Thanks anyway. As far as our mean temp is concerned according to my atlas it is 55º - 60ºF. In real terms the coldest overnight low we would get is about 34ºF and hottest we get is about 86ºF. ( I guess thats pretty mild in international terms )We do get plenty of rain and wind. The South Island of NZ seems to have a lot more extreme climate.
Re. 61FX in the T_ _ _t. With the 61 mounted I had to move the battery back and add a little weight to the tail to get it to balance the same as the 70FS at 4 5/8. Even with the12 x 6 prop on it was awesome to fly. So effortless and responsive and man could it haul ***** if asked to. I had reliability issues with the motor (3 dead stick landings ) but still had a blast with it. It looks like it might be a little easier to hover for some reason.
As a matter of interest what servos are you guys using? I am just using standard JR ones and I wonder if I may be handicapping myself. Do I need to go digital?
2HI...How do you manage the time to mow all that grass, post so much on this thread, build planes and still have time to fly. Oh thats right you get the boss to paint the house. I guess with all that space wind direction is not a problem.

The OldLady is pretty good @ mowing to. We have 7 acres to mow around here. Oh yes I am the Boss around here. (If I want here to know that I said that I will tell her myself).

Yakko, I am using Futaba 3004 BB ( Just a standard servo) I'm using the dubro long control arms is all, nuthin' fancy. If you cut out a hatch behind the wing saddle for the battery and put the receiver under the wing Bolt down plate, you can get her to balance around 4.5 - 4.75 without having to add any weight to the plane.

2Hi2c those are some pretty dangerous words to put in writing.. lol. remember,,,, we all have to sleep sometime.

My wife just let's me think I am the boss. Keeps us both happy. She knows when to reel me in if I let it get to my head. As long as I get to fish and fly and she keeps being the best mommy to my son that a guy could ask for, I am fine with Boss as a title only. Now if I cold just get her to mow the lawn.

So I have been hearing about a Twin engine T_ _ _ T (P-38 style) Is anyone taking on this challenge?? Its not going to be me,,, well this year anyway LOL I still have my own problems with my last brillant idea. LOL

And I too am the boss at my house, My wife tells me what to do and then I tell myself what to do, and I am the sole lawn cutting person as my wife as alergies, but she loves to cut the lawn, so once we move from our hay field into another location maybe she will resume duties outdoors again. with corn fields all around the hay just seems to fly all over the place,, we are looking into land with no dried hay dust .. LOL

Yakko, I had some JR 537s on my old PNP T-T, which seemed to be plenty for this little plane. However, this time around, I decided to go with some Hitec HS635HBs, which are quite a bit more torque, but MUCH faster. They seem to slow down a little bit as they reach the stick position, almost like they hit like a blanket of air (if that makes sense), but I think the extra speed and torque will make her a little more responsive.

Futaba 3004 servos, Dubro heavy duty arms, 2000mAh 4.8v battery, stock landing gear and wheels, Sullivan tailwheel, and most importantly........the outstanding O.S. .61FX! Yakko........did you say you're having RELIABILITY problems with the O.S. .61FX? ( I must have misread your post.) What seems to be the problem? You're performing the "pinch test" aren't you? I've only experienced problems when doing outside loops.......it runs so exceptionally perfect other than that I don't bother with figuring out where in the fuel-delivery system the problem exists!

GREAT IDEA WALDO.... I am behind you 100% and if it looks scary on takeoff, i will be behind you 1000% (probably in the next county). I will even supply a cash donation (small) to get you started on it....any other takers on this? LOL

And as a note, I added nothing to Waldos quote......just removed a few things, much like newspapers and TV news does.[8D]

I am finally getting used to the midnight shift, got home with some energy to burn.......so I planned on testing out the 14x4 prop on the OS55............and naturally we have a front move in and the winds are gusting up to 20 now.[] Oh well, one more day then I am off for several. Maybe the weather will cooperate.

The clearance is going to be tight with the stock T***t 40 gear, but I'm going to risk it. Takeoff won't be a problem, but a harrier landing will be in order.

Quick question on the Twipe

Does anyone know or think maybe its just too top heavy besides being tail heavy?

my concern is adding weight or moving it so the nose is heavier and then not being able to pull out of the dive.

If you've seen how it forces itself into a nose dive at times from a hover or straight flight, I think you'll know what I mean. (a very abrupt water fall actually) it can almost loop on the CG axis.

Waldo, what kind of downthrust does the engine have? Where exactly is the CG?

I doubt there's really a top-heavy problem. Maybe a top-drag problem though. Might require some downthrust to keep it from wanting to pitch upwards.

I have a slow cub that when I first got it a set up about 2 inches too tail heavy. It flew a lot like your Tripe. I think you will be okay. There are some unknowns here with all that wing area, but it sure flew like a severely tail heavy plane, very pitchy and very hard to control.

Yakko - your JR servos will work just fine. I added a 6v battery to my PNP & it gives them more torque & really speeds them up. Try it.

Waldo I think some stick on weights just for trial and error is the way to go. From what I seen she was really tail heavy but it looked like she could do some wonderful tailslides and she was a natural at hovering.
Now a movable weight system in her would be great.
I only wish I wasn't so busy I would copy your plans and build a twripe, It was sooooooooo cool just hanging there on her prop.
Great Job and of course this is your 1st prototype WALDO TWRIPE 01
