kerwin50, I think most of us Twistoids are using standard servos. Jay, I don't think it matters much on a 3-D type plane if the servos hunt a little bit. You have to be constantly on the sticks anyway. I don't know much about pattern flying, but I think they take away points for every little out of place wiggle. It would probably matter more to have perfectly centering servos in some type of competition like that.

Kerwin I just use the standard Futaba S3004's BB and have never had a problem, I have recently ended up buying 2 flight packs of Hitechs becasue they were the only thing availbale at the time in our hobby shop and have so far found no problems with them at all, I'll have to check on the centering thing but I haven't noticed it yet,, especially in the T_ _ _ T, that plane is all over the sky, but lands like a dream. so I wouldn't think there is a problem.

Moondoggie I know how much fun flying you have had in this hobby, as I have had the same exact hanger over the years, minus the stinson, love that bipe, the 4 star, kadet, the corsair lasted me about 5 years, she always always landed beautifully, and then skidded to a stop on her nose, every single landing, except the last one which landed at about 200mph out of a dive in a parking lot,, there was nothing to even rebuild after that. [&o]

Dutch sounds like your getting ready to have some fun, good luck with her and the .91

Your right Waldo, I`,m having a blast. I just retired the 2 Cubs , the fun did`nt last long with them.
I`m very new to flying , just getting into low wing. Should I set the Twist up for flaperons ? or will the y-harness work fine with one channel ?

Jay...I have no issues with my HiTec's whatsoever. I use a standard Futaba 3004 on the throttle, but the planes I own all have karbonite HiTec servo's on them. I'm a big HiTec fan, although I honestly have to say I never had issues with Futaba servo's either. I'm gonna stick with HiTec though.....they are quick..reliable....love em.

MOONDOGGIE....you will be fine with a Y-harness...that is what I use....I have never set up the .40 size for flaperons...she lands like a dream as it is..harriers are a breeze......I do not know how much flight experience you have...she was my 2nd plane, and I could not have wished for anything better. The plane is still light in weight, yet sturdy as heck. She sets in for landings just amazing...just line her up..cut the throttle and she will float in almost by herself.....Depending on your engine...she takes off like you have never experienced....
I have tried a few other planes since..all I can say...the T _ _ _ T will be in my hangar, as long as this plane is in production. There is no plane, that I have flown so far, that can come even close to the fun I experience with the T _ _ _ T!!...period!!!Do I need to say more??....other than that...welcome to the group of T _ _ _ T addicts....you can not wish for a better place to gain experience than the guys here at this forum..I consider them part of my family..

Thanks for the info dutch.
This will be my 2nd low wing. I have a 4Star 40 that I`ve flown 8 or 9 times. I have about 6 gals of fuel thru a LT.40 GP Cub 20 and a GB clipped wing Cub. To be honest , they were starting to bore me to death. lol The 4 Star is sweet.
I`m just nervous . lol. thanks for all the help.

Alright Dutch, i'll keep ya posted. I'm so excited to get her in the air!! I'm just waiting for a flex cable to arrive and also a new engine mount, i kinda screwed up on that one. Thanks for all your help and tips! I am also using hitec standards, except their not digitals.

I'm not sure if this has been discussed here yet, but has anyone set up their t____ts with spoilerons? How does the T____T perform with em'?

Insanemoondoggie, remember that things happen pretty quick with the Twist, even on low rates. Keep it up high until you get used to it. It likes to jump around. That's why it's so much fun. As dutch said, landing is pretty much a non-event. Chop the throttle to a high idle that is still pulling some, and the tail will sag down and you can drop it right down where you want it.

After looking back thru this thread for imformation on setting the CG. I have found post that range from 4.25 to 6.0
Would 4.25 be a safe place for me to start for a newbie?

if you are refering to the twist 60, i would suggest cg of between 5.0 to 5.25" from L.E..

Insanemoondoggie, that should be perfect on your 40 to start. At 4.25", that tail won't drop as much when you cut the throttle. You should be able to bring it in on the main gear easier. I think Jack 211 set his c.g. about there and he was able to do all the tricks and hover.

Bruce....keep us posted about your endeavour to get your baby balanced.....it should be a breeze really....I will actually keep you posted about my balancing...I'm going to install a S/T 90 two stroke in her tomorrow, so i will let you know if she needs any weight..I'm curious if I encounter the same issues as you did, since this is my 1st 60-size T _ _ _ T...

Moondoggie....you can scratch the word "bored" out of your dictionary with the T _ _ _ T...This plane will keep you challenged for a long, long time...trust me...get used to her first before you do anything out of the ordinary please...She can fly very docile, but can show her teeth in the fraction of a second....I am looking forward to a very detailed maiden flight report..I think we all are...

Thanks again for all the help . Dutch I promise you a detailed report on my maiden.
The weather has been really lousy and the forecast calls for rain most of the week, so it might be a few days.
The guys at the club , told me I`ve been over due for a low wing, They will be surprised the next time out at the field. Not only that I bought a Twist , but that I bought an ARF also .lol.
I had a PTS P-51 Mustang and thought the quality was very poor. The aileron blew off 5 mins into it`s maiden , and I swore no more ARF`s but the Twist suprized me . They are very will built for the money they cost and go together quickly. The hardest part was stuffing the Saito 72 in it and setting up the throttle linkage.
One reason I bought the Twist is I`m looking for something I can fly in out front of me. I had back surgery a few months ago and have trouble looking straight up, I can , but not for long peroids of time. I hope an older fellar as myself can do 3D.

Moondoggie,
I also started out with the P-51 PTS and agree that the quality is crap. If you can fly that plane ok, you'll do fine on the twist. There are a few differences to get used to, but get her up and fly her, you'll love it. I just started flying last August, put in about a dozen flights on the P-51 and went to the twist .60. My only two suggestions for your success is first, give it several flights to get used to it before you try to land in any decent amount of wind and make sure you don't get the Cg too much towards the tail... especially landing in the wind. I had to get someone to bring mine down for me a few weeks ago because of the rear cg and the wind. I thought I was in over my head and was losing confidence, but when they brought it down, they were suprised as to how hard it was to land. We figured out it was all because of the cg being too far back. We brought it forward a bit and now she lands like a dream! Like TimC said, you can drop it where you want it. Good luck!

Moondoggie,,, LOL,, you could be in trouble if looking straight up bothers you, the T_ _ _ T with a 72 4 stroke will take off in about 5 feet if you pull back on the stick and point her straight up, she will find orbit before you know it, I use to take her straight up into the clouds and then throw the sticks into a flat spin mode and hoped it was flat spinning when she re appeared, so far she always has been spotted, sometimes flat spinning, sometimes not, and usually about 100 -500 yards off of the spot we were expecting it to be dropping from.

The T_ _ _ T will land better then the 4 star for you, or very close, I really liked the 4 star, I flew that baby for about 7 years, but the T_ _ _ T has her own character for sure, and can be the best trainer you've ever had, or your worst nightmare, the stories are true, so listen to these kids, in 35 years of flying this is the most acrobatic plane I have ever owned, and it still flys like a trainer, but at high speed and high rates this thing will snap your neck trying to follow it and still be looking for more of the violence,,,,,[>:][>:] awesome plane,,,

I have flaperons set up on mine, I only use them when I'm messing around with different things though, they are really not needed at all,,, but oh,,, the extra fun you can have with them
The Cg at 4.25 is a great way to go for sure. good luck and we all definitely want to see that maiden report.

JWK Don't you hate when that happens,, finally after about 5 passes you yell,, I CAN'T LAND MY PLANE!!! It won't sit down,,,[&:][8D] LOL, I love when that happens to me, it just shows me my plane wants to keep on flying,,, thats a good thing, I think anyway... in such a situation just climb about 50 feet up and circle the runway until it runs out of fuel, or kill the motor, she is going to land then for sure.

Dutch the anticipation must be killing you to get that 60 in the air,,, and I have to agree with you about this turning into a family thread.... gotta love a big T_ _ _ T family.

I could go on all day and reply to replys, but I have been long enough again, So I will just say to all of you, Have a blast and don't forget....

PICS........ MOVIES...... REPORTS........ keep em comming.

WoW I can't believe you guys think the PTS is crap[X(]. We have one with well over 100 flights on it with no trouble. I am a Hangar 9 Fan (sorry Down). The only complaints I have had with any of them was the Corsair & the AT6 & they were both Retract trouble (to small of wire). Right now my H9 fleet is the Corsair, AT6, PTS P-51, Cub & everyones favorite the T---T, Got my eye on the Sundowner Formula 1 but it will have to wait as I am starting on a Royal P-38.

The Kid in the pictures showed up at my house about 10 yrs ago so I thought we would keep him.

2HI2C,

No apologies needed! I once thought that Hanger 9 had fantastic products too, when I bought from them ....I just think their customer service STINKS and that's with a captial "S", capital "T", capital "I", capital "N", capital "K", and a capital "S"!! Ohio Model Products sells two sizes of Katana that are much more nimble and durable and can fly circles around the two remaining T_ _ _ Ts that I have, but that's for a different thread. I'll fly my T_ _ _Ts till they ain't no more. Thing is......you just can't find a better bunch of fellas then them in this here forum!

Well...The S/T 90-size is mounted in the .60-size T _ _ _ T. ..My bud installed it for me, while I stripped the Seagull Harrier from the servo's and engine..Those servo's (HiTec karbonite) and the O.S. 61FX are going in a brand new T _ _ _ T 40....I'm so exited I can almost pee in my pants.....No more other planes for me (at least...for a while....). I'm gonna stick with the T _ _ _ T's. I also mounted the rudder- and elevator servo's in the .60. I am going to use the rods that came with the .60, but I am going to put DuBro safety locks on them..I swear by those......Thank goodness they provide good landing gear with the T _ _ _ T. Some ARF's come with these impossible flimsy landing gears....[:@]... So.....hopefully I can finish the .60 this week...the weather right now screams for flight time...[]..but it is too late to go out and fly...[:@].......it is true...I'm addicted to flying...no question about it..
