The wind is also a very good training tool. Most people will wait until winds are less than 10MPH before they will go up. I did my first maiden in my first plane, (the P-51 pictured earlier) in 35MPH winds. It was a little scary at first and landings can be a little squirely. But after that 15-20mph winds were nothing. This little T____T is a blast will a little wind. I do agree with it getting tossed around a bit turning back into the wind though.
Something weird happened the other day when I took it up. I had been flying it for a few weeks straight at the school by our house and it was setup by the guy I bought it from for flat and level flight. Had about 3 1/2-4oz of lead on the front at this time. I just left it as is to get used to flying it. Was never really quite comfortable with it, more the aerobatics than the plane.
Well the other day I took it out and it was breezy and from the time it left the ground until I landed it about 4-5 tanks later I was having an absolute blast with it. It was very responsive easy to maneuver and the landings were great. Slow and it would just set on the ground. So I decided to adjust the throws and D/R to there proper settings and re due the CG and thats when the weird part hit me.
The time out prior to this on my last landing I was flying inverted about 4 feet off the ground when I decided to kill the power, flip it over and land all in one quick move. Well all was fine, struck the prop a little but it on grass so no harm. But what I didn't know was that it had also knocked the 4oz. of lead off the front so the CG is actually at 4 5/8" right now instead of 4". What a difference this has made. Here I thought I was just getting better from using my flight simulator.. lol

Now I got a question. What size servo arms are you guys using to achieve full throw on the T____T? I'm just using the standard 3 hole arms that come with futuba servos. Thinking maybe I need to use a 4 or 5 hole arm instead. I can achieve the proper throws for the dual rates but no where close for the 3D settings.

Yes go with the Dubro long arms,
I love the wind, I try and tell everyone at our club the wind is our friend up to about 60 mph, then its an obnoxious friend
And yes Link I fly a US 1000 that goes about 100 or so, I'm trying to talk 5 members of my club to buy the King kobra f-16 looking thing for a formation stunt show we want to do, were trying to decide on the planes to use but during our routine and practicing I'm expecting some nice mid air explosions so I'm thinking around $100.00 for the plane,, other choices I'm thinking of would be the P-51D mustang Miss America Scheme, Pitts special Bipes, or the Super Chipmunk, I'm thinking these are good tracking planes which is helpful when trying to pull off some Blue Angel or thunderbird stuff.
flying nice and close together with a bunch of big ol props spinning next to you like a chainsaw is always an interesting result[X(]

Have to say i appriciate the comment though

linkadrip, I'm using the aluminum Futaba servo arms, but the 1 inch ones. I thought the 1½" arms might put too much strain on my standard servos.

Feel real bad about mentioning the prop Now lol it has been mentioned oh i dont know 50 or more times in several post back to 48. So One inch arms sounds good and the correct prop and i will be set.

Hi All,
Have been flying a 40-size, .91 powered Hanger 9 Pizazz for about 5 years. Had my first mid-air collision with it three weeks ago. Totalled the Pizazz. Pulled out the 91 and the radio gear. All seemed OK.
Went looking for a comparable 40-size plane and saw the Twist 40. Looked very similar to the Pizazz so I bought it.
I beefed up the firewall and stuffed the old OS 91FX into it using an APC 13 x 6 prop. To satisfy CG requirements I also had to make a removable battery hatch and battery holder behind the wing.
Out of a hover, it has an incredible climb rate. I set the original CG at 4 1/2 inches and maidened it yesterday, but the plane seemed nose-heavy. Today I reset the CG to 5 inches and the plane came alive.
What an great performing aircraft !!!! Much better than my good ol' Pizazz.
Too much power ? Nahhhhhhhhhhhhhh !

Well, it finally happened.
My T***t got maidened today!!!
My instructor and I broke in the GMS .47 and he took it up for the maiden. I had the rates set up as per the instruction manual and as soon as he took off I knew this plane was hot !!!! And he was flying it on low rates. I even thought it was too hot for me to fly in this configuration with my experience(or lack of)!!
It is amazing what he was doing with the plane and with this engine and the 12.25 x 3.75 APC prop the plane has unlimited verticle.
He was elated with the performance and showed me how to set the throws mechanically so that it will be more docile so I can fly it ( I am just about finished my training on the NexStar).
Still have to run a few more tanks of fuel through the motor until it is fully broken in but it was sure nice to see it in the air even if I wasn't the one at the controls.
It is quite a plane for the money
I can't wait for next weekend

Well i won the TVV!$T 150 auction For 147 bucks guess thats not to bad. And the servo arms and prop for the 40 are on there way from tower along with some other much needed stuff for the completion of my other plane. But gonna be awhile getting the 150 in the Air. The 180 Size saito 4 stroke engines are a bit pricey. But it will be worth the wait i'm sure. Still debating on the engine just the same.
the gas engine here is Cheaper then the Saito engine. ANd the Recomended engine for the plane.
http://www.evolutionengines.com/Prod...rodID=EVOE26GT
But i have experience with the Saito engines and just like the way they look and sound. And dont require the extra Battery for the ignition and Stuff
http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...odID=SAIE180GK
30 dollar Difference
Maybe some opion on what engine you have experience with in the 150. I can definetly see why there is not much mention of this plane though considering the cost involved in its set up. The engine i think is going to be the most expensive part of the setup. A flight pack isn't to bad as long as you already have the TX that can be used with the flight pack.
But i love flying the 40 size so much i just had to get the biggest one they make. Hope i'm not posting in the wrong post though Considering NCIS did start a thread on the 150.
Well Any thoughts on this Big Plane are encouraged and i do mean big
Specs
Wing Span: 61 in (1550mm)
Overall Length: 59 in (1499mm)
Wing Area: 1224 sq in (79 sq dm)
Flying Weight: 8.5-9.5 lb (3.9-4.3 kg)
Engine Size: 1.25-1.80 4-stroke; 26cc gas
Motor Size: Power 110-160 Brushless Outrunner
Radio: 4 channels with 5 servos
Servos: 5 servos required (88-155 oz/in torque)
Trim Scheme Colors: White (HANU870), Flame Red (HANU883) & Midnight Blue (HANU885)
CG (center of gravity): 5.25 in form leading edge of wing at fuselage
Wing Loading: 16.94 oz/sq ft
Speed Control : 110A Brushless ESC
Recommended Battery: 8-10S Li-Po battery pack
Definetly has to be gas Research Electric setup for this plane and the cost is well Astronomical. And thats all i have to say about that

Welcome to our little piece of the "Universe" as it is, and congrats on the "maiden" of your T___T. I'd like to share something with you my experience as a new pilot with the plane. . . .
My first flight was only after about 2 hours of actual flying with my trainer. The guys at the local club knew that I had 2 (obcessive compulsive disorder?) PnP T___T's, and that I was fearful of flying them. I, like you, said that I wanted to be proficent on the sticks of my trainer before whipping out either of my babys and possibly destroying one due to my newness (combined with an unhealthy dose of fear).
Several members said just to bring one out and let someone else fly it so I could at least see it in the air and enjoy it. I shared this with the fellas on this thread and their opinion was to do same. They all said that the T___T flies easier than the trainer (which I found HARD to beleive).
Next weekend it found it's way into the back of the truck, along with the trainer. . I got the trainer up and ran a tank of fuel thru it till it was dead-stick time. . . several guys saw that I'd brought the T___T with me, and nudged me into asking a member (who just so happens to be a former world champion R/C pilot) to take it up. He agreed to do the deal, did a complete radio function check, set a few paramaters, and then a function test on the controls and got it up in the air. He did stuff I still can't explain with my plane. The joy was to watch him hover it a few inches off the ground just a few feet infront of us. He got it up 2 mistakes high, then handed the box over to me (which was TOTALLY unexpected) I reluctantly took the controls and flew it around the pattern. By this time several of the members were standing just behind me praising me for doing so well and said to just slow it down and do a few approaches. IBy this time I was shaking and sweating, and ready to releive my bladder right where I was standing. . .
after a couple of approaches I announced the landing and brought 'er around and executed the best landing I've to this day ever done. . .I taxied the plane back to me and hit the kill button. I set the radio down next to the plane. guys came up to shake my hand, which by this point was wringing wet, as was my hair, neck, and other parts of my anatomy. . .Since then, I've had many flights with both of my T___Ts, and have had to do the "FAMOUS" repair to the fuse after a little incident where the ground rushed up to grab my plane by it's wingtip.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that this plane flies easier, and freindlier than that nexstar does, except for the lack of dihedrial. but YOU CAN FLY IT NOW especially if someone has a buddy box compatable with your radio. To this day, I take my plane up on low rates, get to a comfortable altitude, then hit the high rate switch and let the plene just freak out in the sky. If it gets a little too harry, I just hit the switch back to low rates and it stableises just fine. You are cheating yourself by holding back from flying this thing. . . Trust all who'll mostlikely agree to my post on this wonderful psydo-tainer 3D wanna-be that has to be the most fun plane ever built (IMHO). . .
again, Welcome
Jeff

Joe, .91 you say? 2 kewl! No need to take it out of the truck, just take off from the tailgate
Mark, congrats on the plane getting flown. Now grab the tx and throw the throttle foward. Welcom to the club!
Link, congrats on the new plane. I also want to get into the bigger planes but for now I have to stick with .40 size. Shipping already gets pricey and most of the .60's and over are too big to ship thru the APO. Then I got to think about getting all this stuff home one day. AND....like you said the cost goes up exponentially.
Jeff, great story!

Today was a no fly day for me but I spent most of the day in the hobby room sniffin ca fumes[sm=bananahead.gif]. I got a little scratch build project going trying to make a camera plane for a/v. Hoping it works out because I can see I'm gonna have some time invested in this baby. It won't be pretty, I just want it to fly.
All ready for tomorrow to do a little T _ _ _ ting! Wifey says she wants to go so I am going to give her the honors of taking vid
. MUuAaaHaaHaaaaaaaa.
OK, I'll shut up now. I TOLD you I had been sniffin CA fumes all day.

Thanks guys !!!!
Jeff, that story is an inspiration. I redid the throws last night and they are 1/2 of what they were. I Will fly the plane this weekend.
It is really tempting not to take it out now.
I can fly right out of my back yard if I want and I really want to but i am going to wait until there is someone else with me just in case.
The only takeoffs I've had are with my Hobbyzone SuperCub. I am sure taking off with the NexStar and the Twist will be no problem though.Takeoffs for me are scheduled for this weekend.
I have done everything else with the NexStar, landings, rolls, loops and some things that I am not sure of the names
.
I have a buddy box,but the only thing is that the computer radio, which would be the main, will have the lower % throws but when switched over to the buddy box, the throws become 100 %.
I think just get the plane up high and then pass me the radio.

Bear with me here.....have been flying for about 10 months....learned with an experienced pilot on the Nexstar. Then flew a Hobbistar before converting it to a taildragger, WM Skyraider (that I love....flying the covering off of it now lol) and a GP Big Stick 60 (built as a low wing...fast plane)............no 3d experience. So I ordered a Twist 40 from LHS......I have a 46LA and a 61 waiting in the wing. Should I learn the plane with the 46 and then move to the 61.....or just throw the 61 on it and hope it survives? Your thoughts and suggestions welcome.
#1422
binky99, go for it with the .61. Put on a 13x4 and let it rip. Your experience with the other planes has you more than ready for the Twist. Ask yourself what Vin Diesel would do.

I think the T_ _ _ T will fly better then your trainers
Bendr,,, ooooohhh I'm a little jealous,, you and the CA fumes,,[sm=spinnyeyes.gif] thats okay though, in about a month my building season will begin and then its CA and epoxy EVERY NIGHT!!!!! YEEEE HAAaaa,,,,,, I have a couple of planes I want to rebuild, and of course the new Yearly project is being decided with 4 of us at our Club, we're all going to build the same model, so when we formation fly we won't know who's plane is who's

Joemamma- Does your mamma know you stuffed a 91 in there?? Now thats great power for sure.
Naswifty- That is a great story, LOL,, I felt like I was there routing you on, had I known, I would have brought you some towels, or dumped a bucket of Ice over your head...
Link - Congrats on the winning of the Auction, I have to do one of those things once,, with enough money, Maybe I could finally win something in my life.
Ahh it felt good to post again, Been very busy lately,, So welcome and good luck to all the new T_ _ _ Ters,, man, missing a couple days on this thread is like not having "Zap eye" for a few days,, something just doesn't feel right.. LoL
I will be missing flying this weekend as we are heading to Cedar point Ohio for 3 glorious days of Roller coaster fun, [sm=bananahead.gif] Thats kind of like what this hippy looks like after getting off one of those monsters,,, So I guess If I'm going to miss flying for something, coastering helps heal the wound.
Fly on comrads

I will be missing flying this weekend as we are heading to Cedar point Ohio for 3 glorious days of Roller coaster fun, [sm=bananahead.gif] Thats kind of like what this hippy looks like after getting off one of those monsters,,, So I guess If I'm going to miss flying for something, coastering helps heal the wound.
