Wow Naswifty that pretty much sums it up. Good researching there that must have taken a minute or 2. That naswifty guy is a smart man too
He knows were to find the information when needed. Great indexing skill.[sm=thumbs_up.gif]
Ah you changed it you had all the quotes on there i thought that was great at explainging alot.
Guess it is better revised.

I was trying to break off each question as a seperate quote, but forgot to put the / before spelling quote
so it came out with all those silly boxes
trippy, huh?

Not sure about that motor but the magic prop seems to be 12.25x3.75. I use almost 1/2 throttle less to get mine to hover since I switched. It may be too many RPM's for that motor though, unless you adjust your throttle trim alittle..

I'm using a 14x4 on my Saito .72 with no problems at all.
Sounds like the engine might be leaning out when vertical. Try taking the plane (without wing) and warming it up- then hold it (or have a freind hold it) and simulate the condition. if it starts to loose RPM, try richening or leaning the carb to full power when in vert mode.
4.75 to 5.25 for CG., and yes and no for knife edge. CG only applies to balance when dealing with lift produced by wing. in a knife edge attitude, the only lift generating part of the aircraft is the fusalage, so horsepower and rudder deflection are the ingrediants necessary to pull off the manuever. If your plane is tail heavy, the back will naturaly drop down, but it takes more HP to keep the plane in the "edge"- the tendancy for the plane would be for it to loose horizantal speed and begin to climb. . .
Hope that helps a bit. . . .

Hey guys
I'm using a magnum 70 with a 13x6 prop.
I have to go full throttle for this thing to hover and eventually it doesnt have enought power and tips over.
I was wondering what prop size other guys are using with the same engine? The engine is still on the rich side but puts out 9100 rpm.
My cg was between 4 and 4 1/2. I just moved it to almost 5. Will this help? Will moving the cg back also help knife edges?

Thanks for the info. I'll be at the field today, leaving work early to go fly
. I will let you know how it goes. Rui

Well i got my CG MAchine and my servo arms and 12.25x3.75 prop big difference in the pitch on this prop almost looks flat. Sure hope it helps. Definetly going to get a higher rpm out of the Evolution .46 engine. So going to get it set up tommarrow to dang cold out there tonight,[&o] wheather has turned bad here rain all day and cold. hopefully this weekend i will get to fly.

Link, hope you get some flyin in this weekend. Looks like a no-go for me. Weatherman says rain ALL weekend[:@][:'(][:'(]! It's a 3-day'er to boot! Dagnabbit! Gosh-Darnit!! [:'(][:'(][:'(]
SOoooo, here is what I have been doing so far today.........editing a [link=http://badiusownersclub.com/video/Twist.wmv]VIDEO[/link]. It's from last tuesdays flying adventure. Something to look at if y'all are bored.
It's a big file so if you have a slow connection you might want to right click and "save as" to D/L it and watch it when it's done D/Ling. OH, and any bashing is welcome. The landing was [:'(] but it was all because of the stage fright

.
Enjoy!!

Got my throws reduced mechanically in my T***t for this weekend so I can fly it. 3/8 " throw up and 3/8 down on both the ailerons and the elevator on low rates, 7/8 throws on high rates.
Has anyone programmed in exponential into their radios and if so, how much is a good start ?
I may get the plane out in the backyard to run 1 more tank of fuel through it on the ground and to practice taxiing and if I get brave, maybe lift off a bit
Or just say the heck with it and take the plane for a flight[X(]
As far as I know I will be flying with my instructor on Monday.
Man, I can't wait until I get my wings so I can go out anytime I want. It drives me nuts[&:] to have to wait to fly with an instructor, but I know that's in my best interest.
It's been real tempting to take these planes up right out of my backyard for a flight, but so far I have shown a great deal of self control not to.
The last thing I need to do is takeoffs (done lots with my Hobbyzone SuperCub) with the glow airplanes, which is going to happen on Monday and then do my solo flight.

Mark. . . I have the expo on mine set ONLY on low rates and have it at 40%. Thats what helps the T<+>T fly like a trainer. . .very forgiving as long as airspeed doesn't get too slow. . . as you gain experience, you'll master the landings and you're going to be AMAZIED at how slow this plane will fly. In a 10. mph wind, it will almost fly backwards.!.!.!
on High rates, the expo is turned off so it will snap and jump and twist like it's posessed. . . thats what makes it so fun to fly. .. ... ....

Well just got back from flying and what a difference that prop made. I actually didnt think it would put out that much thrust the plane flew great. The wind is blowing about 15 mph so coming in for landing was a breeze. This plane is like a feather so amazing. I didnt get to put my one inch aluminum arms on they won't fit the JR servos unfortuantly, but i can use them on another airplane. Guess the dubro ones will fit Jr servos dont know yet but from all the post they must. That is what everyone seems to be using. But it still flew great i adjusted the stock arms on it low rates are 3/4 inch both ways tail elevator and ailerons. High rates are 1 1/2 inch both ways on all flight surfaces Most likely wrong but when the high rates are on it is one crazy airplane no expo. Expo is in thumbs lol. I like the instant response.
Flew my trainer too and there is so much difference between the two planes the trainer seems so boring compared to the TVV!$T but i still like it. I know some of you are using saito engines in your TVV!$T so i have a 4 stroke question to ask. What would cause a Saito engine to Flame out in a climb. Every time i would climb with the trainer it would flame out and i would have to deadstick. Unfortunatley i Splintered my 12X8 pro zinger prop on the last deadstick. I could do a climb and loop and no prob, it flew fine for most of the flight then when i get into a 65 degree climb or 90 and hold it there it would die. Any idea what might be the prob.
Should goto the engine thread for that, but i know you guys have saito engines on your TVV!$T and get your palnes in 90 degree hovers and steep climbs.
HAd an Audience too today witch was a first. Usaully out there all alone. Sure makes things different when people are watching. But it was all good. Lots of questions
Was a great day for TVV!$Ting cant wait to get the 150 and have it all set up.[sm=wink_smile.gif]
Hope your weekend has been as fun as mine has been so far. Tommarrow i'm thinking of maidening my Extra 330L gasser, But still Kind scared its such a big plane and i'm sure it has alot different Flight Charteristics then the TVV!$T. Bet it wont float like the TVV!$T does coming in for a landing. Even the trainer is harder to Fly then the TVV!ST.

Flame outs usualy happen because of a lean mixture sounds like in a climb it is having a harder time drawing fuel. from max rpm you should richen the engine up by 500 rpm less. check for kinked fuel lines. a 1 way check valve works wonders in the pressure line

link, I had a Saito that used to that as well, and after changing all the fuel line it turned out that the low speed needle was a little too lean. Like kerwin stated, check all lines or just replace them to be sure, sometimes splits in the line can be hard to find. Try the low speed as well, but only richen it about 1/8 turn at a time.
Hope this helps...

Thanks Kerwin and Pit-viper
I will try both to richen and replace the fuel lines. Last time i ran the engine it was summer and over 90 degrees outside the other day it was 40 degrees when i flew it so i'm sure the mixture setting have something to do with it. It was fine during the summer i didnt have one problem with the Saito it ran great. Probably not a bad idea on that check valve at least the tank would stay pressurized with something like that. But changing the fuel lines and richening it a little may do the trick, i will give it a shot and see what happens.
thanks again

With the 50 deg temp change your problem might just be the carb settings. The carb needs to be richened when the temp gets noticably cooler.
#1465
I richen my mixture also for colder, denser air. In the summer, when the air is hot and thin, I lean the needles to maintain the correct air/fuel ratio.

I had the T***t out last night before it got dark and ran another tank of fuel through the engine for break in and then one more tank in the backyard for taxiing and lots of aborted takeoffs. The plane would start to liftoff and I would throttle back and land. Then I would turn the plane around and taxi it back to the other end of the yard and do it all over again.
Man, when you pour the coals to this plane, does it ever go in a hurry !!!!
I thought maybe I could get some more practice today but it wasn't meant to be.
I should have just bit the bullet and taken it for a flight last night.
I am a wee bit leary to do this by myself as I have never flown a low wing before. Just my SuperCub and the NexStar.
When that tank was empty it was too dark to fool around with the plane anymore so I just brought it in and cleaned it up.
I did notice that even though the throws were set low I still needed lots of rudder to maneuver the plane around. On low rates I had the rudder set the same as everything else, 50%.
I ended up putting it at 75% and I still think I could go more.
Jeff, how does this plane land compared to a trainer ??

My NexStar was harder to fly than my T_ _ _T. Flying off of grass to get up engugh power, my NexStar had a very bad habbit of veering right on takeoff. Way, Way too much right thrust in the firewall almost a Quarter of an inch from one side to the other. Back to the T_ _ _T, flys much, much better than my trainer ever did. Take offs are uneventful and landings are oh so gentle. Come in with 2 or 3 clicks from idle (more or less depending on your setup) light flare and at about a foot or so off the ground chop the throttle big flare...... BEAUTIFUL!!!!

I am in the market for the t***t .40.ARF.everybody is out of it. I know this is not the right place to advertise but I thought why not..lol Anyone have one theywant to sell or trade let me know..

Mark. . .as long as you can get past the mental "wall" of the T<->T not being a trainer, and having a high lift wing, it's WAY (explitive omitted) Easier to fly and land than the NexStar. Needs less airspeed to land, so coming in on final you can just throttle back and let it almost glide in. If it gets too slow on descent, it can get a little squirrely just above stall speed, but I'd rather have itr coming down slow than having it zooming at me. the NexStar lands at a much higher rate of speed, due to it's lower wing loading and faster penetration rate. when the trainer stalls, it just wings over without much warning. But the T<->T lets you know when it's getting to the stall point by becomeing a little wobblie, so you just bump the throttle a few clicks and she stabilizes nicely. just make sure that you have low rates on during landing.
As for the rudder issue, I have mine set where there's no EXP on it, and the travel is the same on both high rates as well as low. I'm one of those kind of pilots that uses as little rudder as possible, unless it's for a manuver, take off or landing.
for general flying, it's just elevator and alerions, so thats why I only have dual rates for those controls.
hope that helps a little. . .

That helps a bunch Jeff and Jacklegchris .
I had both planes over at the field today and I was the only one there. I was just doing taxiing with the Twist and got the speed up too fast once and the plane took off on me !!!!
So I just kept it up in the air and flew it around. The only problem I had was the tail wanting to dip on me all the time and the plane would climb. I tried to adjust the elevator trim but I either went the wrong way or not enough. Being a new pilot and flying the plane for the first time(by myself no less) there was alot going on.
Finally I just gave the plane a little down elevator with the stick which made the plane fly alot better and I got the plane onto my approach and landed ok.
It was a pretty nerve wrecking flight [&:] until I got the down elevator into it.
Other than that it flew really well, I was on the low rates and I am not so sure I like the expo(50%) in the sticks. To me when I moved them the plane seemed sluggish. Maybe I will drop the % down some and try it.
I flew the NexStar for the rest of my flights(with my first takeoffs with that too!) and then got the Twist out for some more taxiing practice.
When I got home I readjusted the elevator linkage. I think when I moved everything to lower the throws I didn't adjust the linkage far enough and that was giving me the up elevator that I was experiencing when I first took it up.
But I was happy I flew the T***t today and both planes came home in one piece !!!

wonderful. . . .and now an official "atta' boy" for having your maiden/solo with the T<->T.
re-check CG. and then turn on radio, then receiver and allow controls to center. make sure that trim is in newtral position before making any adjustments to center the control surfaces. if you want to be ABSOLUTE you can take a ruler and lie it across the horiz. stab and the elevator and check for alignment.
as for the expo, it's that certain amount of sluggishness that you want going up and coming down. I have mine at 30%, so just small inputs dont have a major effect. 75% on the other hand, means you have to throw the sticks to 75% of travel before the controls will be like 1 to 1 in responsiveness. try the lower setting and watch the controls move as you move the sticks. . .

WOW Nice Video Bendr,,
This Thread is awesome, I leave for 3 days and the posts multiply like rabbits
Well great to hear of the Maiden Bratpak,, very cool to get that bird in the air,, and like the rest of them say get that CG checked,, and if the flight wasn't nerve racking you wouldn't be flying,, you'd be watching the cartoon channel with your feet up in the air... which is entertaining,, buit its not flying... LOL
Man I am jonesin to get in the sky,, I hate to miss a weekend,,, Now they are calling for a blustery weekend this week,, Thats a bummer to know the end of our season is almost near,,, UGhhhhhhhh[:@][&:][:@][&:][&:][X(]
but I'm sure we'll be out there until at least mid november maybe December.
It was almost 90 in Cedaqr point Ohio over the weekend,, we were melting in the sun at that park,, but that was Okay, the 125MPH roller coaster Top thrill dragster,, dried us right off
as did all the other great coasters... I wanted to take some great on coaster footage of the rides we went on but they are really cracking down on that stuff there, I was on 2 coasters that they actually stopped half way up the lift and walked all the way up to tell them to put the camera away, and they would stand there and make you delete the video or Pictures from your camera before they would let you off the ride. What in hell is the world comming to??? I tell you..

Thanks for the Attaboy!!! It was a sheer panic stricken flight LOL [sm=stupid.gif]
Ok rechecked the CG and here's what I came up with....
At 4" back from the leading edge the plane is tailheavy
At 4 1/2" back it is still tailheavy
At 5" back the plane is nose heavy
So near as I can get it the plane is balanced at 4 3/4 "
When my instructor looked over the plane before he flew it last week and he said it was nose heavy
I will definately go down on the expo too
I like cartoons................................
