I don't mean to bust your bubble guys, but that is NOT a Super Cub. It was a 1/3rd World Models Cub, with a Super Cub cowl. It had no flaps and was powered by a Saito 320 Pegasus. Radio failure was the cause and it is not repairable, only the wing was salvagable, but the rest of the airframe was not. Only had about a dozen flights on it.... Hasn't as yet figured what made the PCM (Futaba) go into fail safe...(fail safe?) that's an oxymoron...... How do I know? I fly with the guy all the time.......

Mr. Mouse,
Tnx f' givin' us th' word. 'Coulda fooled me. (Did!)
A shame, no matter what its pedigree, an' yes, "fail-safe" is, @ least in this case,
an oxymoron. It DID fail and it WASN'T safe.

Cyclic, Just cut in some flaps, and add a Super Cub cowl and you have a PA-18. $450 street, price ain't too bad. H-9 Cub comes with a full pilot and interior, so a couple of bucks more for flaps and cowl you got a deal......

I saw a cub very similar to this plane bite the dust today. We had a big birds event at our field today and the guy just lost radio contact with the plane. The engines died and the plane spiraled to the ground. It is beat pretty bad but he said that he is going to try to fix it. He didn't know what caused the crash right away but it was definitely radio related he thought. I didn't realize they made different cubs. I just thought it was a funny looking cub. I will post a picture of it when I download my camera.

Okay, the truth be known...I am he who doth fly and own cub in photo's....I stripped the gear out of the plane and put the structure to rest in my garbage can....it was tuff to do....I already have another World model 1/3 on order through RC Modeler Northwest, Aloha Oregon 503.649.0633. It will arrive on Friday...This is a wonderful flying plane and a hoot to fly. Yes, it was a fail safe issue activated out of my error...I did not have the batteries adequately charged and the two quarter scale servo's that I have in it drained the batteries beyond what was safe.....The reality of it all is that this plane is merely a practice plane at a mere $3,800....it is in preparation of a scale 1/3 PA18 that is scratch built...it will for all intensive purposes be exacting to a full scale Vero Beach PA18...the full scale version is very rare in fact only 23 or 24 built in the 80's...it is this same version that Dave Patrick has replicated his 1/4 scale after...I know this first hand because of my relationship with others who actually designed Dave's plane...It is this same person that was so kind to provide me with drawings and some very critical detailed parts for my scratch built....I have been constructing my PA18 for about 4 years now...a very slow process because of a demanding career and due to having to loving young kids to raise. My hope is to complete it in 2008 and qualify it for Top Gun and the Scale Masters finals. Until then, I will practice with my ARF wanta be PA18...conversion with flaps on it to follow soon....by the way...the WM Cub does great knife edges, stall turns, loops and great ground control....thanks World Models...only draw back, the plan is no where scale to a J3 or Super Cub just a like resembalance....I would say keep em in one piece but.......til then Kelly

I apologize for relaying incorrect information. I was passing on info that I received from a 3rd party. I am sorry for your loss Kelly, but happy to hear that you will be building a replacement. I wish you luck with your new plane and with your scratch built PA18. Hope to see you at the field with your new cub.

Kelly,
Do I understand that you are flying the WM, 1/3 scale, clipped wing cub with a Pegasus? Is that enough engine for that plane? I have a Pegasus and would love to put it into a cub, but that WM calls for an 80 cc gasser. Please let me know how it flies with the 4-banger. I'm tired of waiting for Modeltech to get their act together.
