I am getting a Xtra Easy II! Does anyone have one yet?
I am curious about the setup. Is it really the same as the regular Xtra Easy? I already have one of those. I wanted to see if I needed to add weight or raise up the trailing edge of the wing, like I did with this first Xrta. I also asked the Horizon rep. about replacement props because they are putting those three blade props on those Evolution engines, he told me that he did not have any of those in stock and if i had to I could substitute with a 2 blade 10x6 or a 10x7! WOW that seems unreal substituting a three blade for a 10x7 what a difference!

Hey RCBOZO, so are they replacing the MDS with the EVO? I would really check the deflection of both the wing and the stabilizer. After I fixed my stab, my plane has flown sooo much better.
If it is the same plane as the Xtra Easy, I think you will like the EVO 46, a friend of mine has one and it seems like it runs well, albeit about as strong as my MDS 40. I have seen a broken shaft however, replaced for free by Horizon.
Congrats!

Hey mojo, I have tried you suggestion about using a 11x5, or 11x4 prop on my MDS 40. The 11x4 just didn't seem like it had any um pf at all, I was really having a handful when I was making approaches. The 11x5 seemed a little better but a couple of touch and goes seemed like I would never get that thing back off the ground!
I am not sure if I need to try maybe another pitch or maybe I need to lean out the low end just a little more. The instructor Sunday didn't want to adjust it but he said it needed it.
What is the formula for picking props?
DIA x Pitch = % power?
I have forgotten how much did you raise your stab? Did you just use some Balsa or what to shim?

prgarcia, I am still having some problems with slow takeoffs and aborted landings with the lack of power that the MDS and the 11-5 Master Airscrew provides me. It may still just be a tuning issue that I will resolve shortly.

Honestly the MDS .40 is not enough engine to pull this plane around. The X-tra Easy is as big as many .60 sized planes and while the MDS is not a bad engine, it just isn't up to the task.
I pulled the .40 off and replaced it with an MDS .48 and saw a HUGE increse in performance and controlability.

Azizza have you Modified you plane at all? Me and mojo both have had problems with the deflection of both the wing and the stabilizer. With out any MOD. my Xtra would pull hard up on take off and stall immediately!

RCBOZO,
I saw a huge increase in performance with the APC 11x5 over a Master Airscrew 10x6. Top speed dropped a bit but overall flyability (if that means anything) was improved. The 11x5 pulls this thing around with authority. I tried a Zinger 12x4 and saw a drop in performance. It gave me slow take-offs like you mentioned. I would try to improve the tune on your engine and give the 11x5 another shot. By the way, I run Cool Power 15% Heli fuel with a cheap Hobby People #8 glow plug (I can't remember the name). Good luck!

I must be really lucky with my MDS .40. I have gone back to a MAS 11-4, spinning at 14000 and can do just about anything I want with my Xtra Easy. Maybe, I just got one of the good ones, not sure. Before I received mine, I had heard of the complaints about the mds .40 not having enough power, for me it is just not true. I did have a 11-5 APC, but I just didn't like it. It came in too fast on the landings (really not that fast, but for a floater) and seemed to just not perform that well. When I switched to the 11-4 MAS, I can take off in a few feet (15 or so) and with a little head wind I can almost hover (not very good at it yet). It definitly isn't a speed demon, but it has been a blast the last couple of flights.
RCBOZO, this is what I did to check the incidence. Get a level and place the plane on a level work area. Check the level of the wing by placing the level underneath the wing. The wing should be pretty much level, I personnally didn't have to do anything to the wing. Now, carefully place the level on top of the stab, making sure the plane doesn't move or push the tail down. I had to add a shim to make the rear stab level to the wing. My stab was point down toward the front about half an inch which would make the plane climb at anything above a quarter throttle. Now, the wing and stab are both level to the table the plane was sitting on, which was also leveled before I started. Hope this helps.

Nope no problems with mine except the above mentioned lack of power. I have owned two and both were good flying planes.
Both were thrown together out of the box with no real work on my part..

I have the Xtra Easy and the Xtra easy 2 trainers. The Xtra Easy with the MDS was a JOKE. First off, replace that small inefficient JR 600MAH battery on there. I put in a Skyborn LiIon 1400 pack. Second, I replaced the engine with an OS 65 LA and a 12x8 prop. Third the nose wheel was replaced with a better spring type and mount (Springs on each side) along with the landing gear mount reinforced with extra plywood inside and then used REAL axles on the main wheels and not the cheap flat head screw axles.
I did the same with the Extra Easy 2 however the engine was a tad better
Anyone wishing to sell an Extra Easy or Extra Easy 2 email me at [email protected]. I dont need the radio with it NOR the engine. (Everything else intact - need the receiver)

Thanks for the reply I have not flown the Xtra Easy II yet, from what I here the Evolution engine is not too bad?
On my other Xtra Easy I have had to reinforce the landing gear with plywood! I have put real axles on already. I have not replace the Mds yet and I am still disappointed with the performance but I am still breaking the darn thing in!
What have you noticed with the larger flight pack? The standard pack is pretty good for about 3 - 4 flights a day that is all that I have tried so far! I am still training so instructor time is limited!

I bought the trainers as planes for friends to fly at the field. i would not DARE let them touch my 1/3 Christen Eagle, or my 1/4 Taylorcraft. I am the type that likes to NOT bring a charger to the field. I get roughly all day flying using a gallon of gas and still have flight time left with my larger batteries. I dont cut corners. Ohhh yeah, I forgot, reinforce and brace the firewall
That MUST be done. But the MDS was a pain in the neck. I went through a few. They quit in air. Once I slapped on a OS 65 it was no problems. Overall it is a GREAT plane. needs upgrades

I call Horizon Hobby and told them about the problem about my other Extra Easy w/ MDS quiting on takeoff and that this other MDS was having the same problem on the ground and they sent me a new carb! I have only flown with this carb for about 30 - 40 minutes with out any dead sticks. Like I said it still needs to be broken in and leaned out! I can understand were you are coming from about the larger battery.
Thanks,
Brian

First thing I did was toss those aside. I only fly JR PCM 10X. It lets me fly my heli's and planes. Basically that post is meant for all who wants them
