Here's a pic of my GP Cap 21 - 15 years old and only flown a couple of times. Not an ARF - it's a kit and it's quite a handful!

I'm assembling a World Models Cap 232 .40 size ARF. I have a question as to how to mount the cowl. I want to preserve as much of the cowl as I can, but the silencer is too large, and the cowl will not fit. Should I try to find a Pitts style muffler? Would the extra ventilation be beneficial, if I did cut out an area for the silencer? I have an Evolution .46, and as of right now I have it at 90 degrees, exhaust pointing down. Any tips would be appreciated!

Here is a pic of my Cap 21. The kit was put out by Model Tech as an ARC, and has been flying for the past 15 yrs. It has a wingspan of 72" and is powered with a Quadra 35. Has plenty of power and flies Great!

the power on the 70 is great for aerobatics. it gives you almost unlimited vertical. currently i'm using a 13x6 prop. i do plan to replace the engine though with a YS YZ63 cuz i feel that the plane would benefit would even more power.

I've been doing alot of flying on the Cap232
and I'll tell you what, It has all the power you could ever want with a
O.S. 91FX and a Pitts muffler.
Its a Kangke Cap232\60 ARF
(Yellow, Buy one for $180 @ ATS)
and Its the best ARF I've ever built, flown or seen except for the GP SpaceWalker.
But thats a whole differant kinda flying.
[&:]
P.S. Guys, Good work on the pictures.
I am still trying to get some good pictures of mine but hey, I live in Washington, And its
raining all the time. except for on weekends

newbie: never had any experience with a Saito72 but just comparing the OS70 Surpass and the YS 63. YS is a lot more powerful. HP rating for the OS 70 is 1.1HP and if i'm not mistaken for the YS is 1.5HP. perhaps some other guys could give feedback on this.

I just finished up a World Models CAP 232 - 40 size. I put an OS 61 in it and was able to balance it by placing the battery between the servo's. I haven't flown it yet can't wait.
Thanks Brad

Looking at all these beautiful pics, Im noticing a wide variety of sizes of ailerons, both in the span and chord of the aileron.
Im currently putting together a BlackHorse models CAP232, which has an even shorter span and chord aileron than most of those pictured above. As this is my first glow powered model (not frst model tho, been flying electrics, gliders and fast slopers for almost 2 years) Im sort of glad it does, itll mean a tad less responsive and manouverable so hopefully I wont crash it so quick

Ill post some pics when I get it done, or at least assembled.
Quick question, I plan on mounting the engine (OS46FX) at 90 and using a Pitts style muffler, just from a rough look it appears as though the engine head will sit within the cowling, can I get away with only cutting a hole large enough to insert glow starter or should I cut a hole large enough for the whole head to be seen ? There'll be the opening at the bottom for the muffler exhausts for ventilation. I know from Full size aircraft that a cleaner cowling with only openings at front and bottom gives the best cooling, the engines will actually run hotter with the top cowl removed.

Hi Lancair-RCU,
I took pictures of my OS61 rotated 90 degrees inside my World Models CAP 232. I trimmed out a circle for the glow plug and 2 offset circles to be able to get to get a finger over the air intake for priming and access to the needle valve using a piano wire extension. I also cut out a fuel line view port to be able to look at the fuel line feeding carburetor. I also have a small excess hole above the needle valve set screw for piano wire extension for the allen wrench. I used a dremmel tool with a very small metal mill bit to trim out the holes.
Since I haven't flown the plane yet I can't comment on how hot the engine will run in my set up. There is a full width gap at the bottom of the cowl that is about 5/16's wide. Maybe someone else can comment on my set up after viewing the pictures, what good or bad. It's my first cowl so I'd be curious to know.
Thanks Brad
