While I was at the Toledo RC Show, I asked one of the Reps. in the Horizon Hobby area, if they knew if or when the new Decathlons would be available? The Rep. I talked to said, that they don't import all of the Sea Gull line to the U.S.!

Apalsson, i've got the engine mounted, (28cc gas) which fitted nicely inside the cowl and some other stuff done. i'll try and upload some photo's. i've heard some negative stuff about seagull arf's but i'm really pleased with this one.
some of the hardware is a little clunky but there's a lot more of good little things that they have thought about.

96td, I am also about to start on mine. I have ordered a new RCGF26cc engine and a Pitts muffler.
I agree, the negativity surrounding Seagull Models is largely unfounded. The build is good, the covering workmanship is excellent and the price is extremely reasonable.
Whether we have to toss out a couple of $2 hardware items is a moot point in the scheme of things

mimore67, I guess they don't like the US dollar. Thats a shame because I think they would probably do well here!

Last night, I started assembling the new Super Decathlon Decathlon. I have ordered a 26CC RCGF engine and a Pitts muffler.
Not much has been done yet but I have glued in all the hinges so far and am in the process of mounting the langing gear.
There are some more details here: http://www.modelaviation.com.au/foru...ic.php?f=6&t=9
The kit seems to be very well built. The covering job is excellent and the plane is very lightweight. I really look forward to this one

Im assembling mine now and have a Saito FG 20cc gasoline for it , lovley engine , will be installing that 2morrow......dont think there will be enough room for a bigger engine , they show an OS 20cc side mounted with the head/tappet covers outside the cowl.....the ply servo tray wasts a lot of space...gotta try and squeeze in a smoke tank

maidened my seagull 120 decathlon 2 days ago. fairly uneventfull plenty of right rudder and gentle on the throttle and she was away. the 28cc mld gas was brand new running rich but had more than enough for this airframe.(zoar 17x6)
it does all the basic aerobatics as good as can be expected, rolls are slow even on high rates but thats ok. inside loops outside loops, stall turns and inverted were all very good.it will drop a wing fairly quickly in a stall and you need to help it recover if you don't have much height. glide in is great but with landings you need to be carefull and bring it in on a low approach with a bit of throttle on or it will dump in. all i can say about ground handling is that you need to take care, you cant just gun it and pull up.
i had 5, 12min flights in total and had only 2 minor issues only. the tape holding the canopy on ripped off and the tailwheel centre self destructed.
everyone commented how nice it looked especially in the air and was a welcome change from extra, edges etc.
this is definately a keeper and a credit to seagull for a fine job at a very reasonable price.
Ari, i still trying to upload photo's..........................

Well done !!
I would love to see those photos, especially on the engine installation.
I'm having an issue fitting my RCGF 26cc because the cowl is too low at the top to clear the front of the crankcase
I might go with an OS120AX instead

Ari, its a shame you cant get that rcgf inside that cowl, it would've been a good combo.
i lucked out with the mld 28, its so tiny it'll fit inside just about any cowl.
i'm going to try some different props this week 18x6 wood and 18x8 apc just to see.
i,m pretty sure i can do the photos now so i'll pull the cowl tonight and take some pics.

decathlon pics from the worlds worst photographer.
apologies for the non scale like attempt at the cockpit, but my only interest is flight performance and fitting the gear in.
engine is a mld 28cc available from cermark in the states or austars in australia. (excellent engine very reasonable price)

Ian,yeah you guess it, the rx is suspended on the rubber bands, i admit its ugly but i'm still running some 36mhz crystal rx's and i'm not willing to go buy synthesised or 2.4ghz while they still work fine.
i just reckon they do better isolated from all that vibration.
hope to catch up with you down at Strath............

Ian, i know what your saying if i'd had a 2.4ghz rx in the cupboard i would have used it but this jr 7 channel has been in 2 previous gas engine planes with absolutely no glitches so i was more than happy to use it again.
c of g seems right at 10 cm after 5 flights i haven't felt the need to shift it at all.
i'm gonna try an apc prop this week which will shift a little and see how it feels.
this thing does't seem to be too sensitive to trim adjustments, like i said this will be a keeper unless i do something stupid....................
