Thinking of getting a Gee Bee and using a Zenoah 26. Would this be a good combo or will it be to nose heavy. Have read the post and it seems that the landing gear is the weak link. Any thoughts?

The MLD-28 is perfect match with battery and ignition on nose.

Wondering if you had any pictures of the Gee Bee with the Zenoah? Did the motor fit inside the cowl with out butchering? How is the landing gear holding out?

Land with a little power when wheels touch down cut power. I dinged the wheel pants a few times just glassed them with no problem.
The landing gear seems to be holding up well though . I bought another pair of wheel pants but I'll keep patching these for now.

So,

it didn't have any tendency to nose over or tip stall ??

Is it so easy to land ? []

wmg706,That install looks good. Even the stock muffler was useable it appears. What did you have to do to balance for CG. I have a G-26 looking for a home. THANKS

You have toland it with alittle power don't cut the throttle until your touching down or it will drop and bounce and nose over .Use very very little elev or she will stall.because she is very short linked. I balanced right side up on wing tips I cut a hole in bottom under the tail and put my battery packs there for balance.made a hatch with thin bass plywood and monokote and screwed it on in case i have to get to it. Once you get her trimmed out she flys great. But remembervery little elevator On down wind runs I don't even touch the elevator.

What is your all-up weight? And what is your c.g.? Mine has no such bad habits. On down wind runs don't even touch the elevator? I horse mine around with no snaps...flies like a 4-star 60. Evolution 1.20NX on mine. No one has felt like cutting out the N numbers and placing them as scale? It is worth the extra effort IMHO.

Don't know what the weight is C G set per manual . Flying in 15 to 20 mph breeze it just don't need elev. on down wind run. Mine will slow fly but we have been flying a pylon pattern.

I think a pitts would fit with no problem there is plenty of room I did'nt have to cut a hole for the carb just cut one to vent exhaust ann reach spark plug if I needed to.

wmg706,

Where did you attach the landing gear wires on the strut? Or are they attached to the wheel pant itself?

I cut about a 1 1/2 to 2" length of brass fuel line and fiberglassed it inside the hole of the wheel pant. Then cut the cables to fit and crimped a small piece of brass tubing 1/18 long for my loop in the cable. This way it at least serves to hold the pant steady.

I doubt the 91FX will be enough. I have a 1.20NX in mine, and it flies it pretty good, but it just balances with this motor. You would probably need to add nose weight and performance will probably be disappointing.

So,

a 160FX will do the trick or a CRRC 26cc.

Question is if someone could tell me more about how the construction went on his Gee Bee.
I mean,
do you have to replace something during assembly?

Was there something you didn't like?

And also,
i'd like to know if it is a sport flier or a really difficult plane to handle?
How's the landing?
Do you HAVE TO come fast ?

The 1.60FX would probably be the perfect motor. Forget the 26cc, much less power than the 1.60. I built mine per the instructions and did not have to replace anything. Easy build, everything fit well. The plane flies like a low wing trainer, you just need to be a little careful on take-offs to avoid nose overs. Flying off of short grass helps and just watch the elevator usage. You DO NOT have to come in fast at all. Mine really floats (you would be surprised at how much so) and will land just as slowly as an Astro Hog. Keep in mind though, the heavier you make the plane, the higher the wing loading aka higher landing speeds. Go with the lightest motor with ample power for your taste and you will be the happiest. I recommend a 1.20 2-stroke or the 1.60, both on Pitts mufflers.

Guys I just started my Gee Bee . I'm scared as hell and I have 100cc planes and not near a scared to fly as the gee bee. i had a saito 1.80 and I invertet it . It was a pain to rig up the throttle and Im thinking it may be a little nose heavy.
The manuel shows (CM to find CG what is that in " does anyone know? . I havent attached the batteries yet I am running two 2300 nimh into myRX that are also is a charging jack and a switch. I will have a link blow of my build . Let me know what you think????

Could someone tell me what the total weight of their plane is? I would like to know . and how you handle the landings. and if you have any input on my motor size Saito 1.80 with a 17x6 prop let me know what you think about I may experience on ballanceing? thanks

Mine weighs in ready to fly (less fuel) at 10.5 pounds. With a Pitts muffler and 2,700 mAh 6V Ni-MH battery mounted on the tray above the motor, it balanced right on with no lead. I did use one of those aluminum Tru-Turn spinner hubs a I have on-board glow, but that battery is right near the c.g. Why would you run two RX packs? If you can, I would say skip the second pack. Redundancy is great, but I don't think dual packs are necessary here. Your Saito weighs 31 ounces. My Evolution 1.20NX weighs 29 ounces. You will be fine in the balance department with one pack above the motor. If you really want that second pack, stick in on the c.g.

Don't know if you saw my flight report or flight photos earlier in the thread, but the plane flies like a low wing trainer. When I land mine (I haven't flown mine in a while with the snow and all....) I just fly a normal landing pattern and lower the throttle. Even with the large nose, mine floats in. I try to land in a three point manner as it is less likely to nose over. Just slow down and flair it in. That simple.

I have it all in and I have one major question . The instructions say th cg is 9cm from front of wing . I have my plane all together and if my calculations are correct 9CM = 3.54 " . Once I figured this out I marked the wings and I tried cg and it was way too nose heavy ! the tail wouldnt even go down at all . It was a total nose dive . I may have to put the batteries in the back??????
\ My main question is where did you mark the plane or find CG? and once you did find cg did you have it a little nose heavy?
I have flown my bigger planes perfectly balanced with no fuel and it was out of control. I always have my planes a little nose heavy. Did this work for you?

Thanks for your help!!

Ohh I will have a 24 oz tank in it instead of the standerd one. I also had only one battery on top of the gas tank and the plne wouldnt even try to cg. It nosed dived .... I will play with it latter today and see what it looks like moving the batteries around.
