10 Ft Span Arf Vmar Beaver

Interesting. Can you tell if the wing rips etc are made of balsa ?.
On the Hot Rod they and parts of the tail feathers are made of something
else. It is cut real thin, warps and smells to high heaven when it gets damp.

Hi, I have no info' on the Beaver exactly, but after my trpuble with two VMAR 'Stick 40's, I'll never buy another one again. I've had two Stick 40's break a wing in flight just outboard the center wing sheeting. I use GMS 47's (great engines) and was doing s simple split S and the wing just broke. WHY?? They don't use hard wood for the wing spars. It's just hard balsa, but that's not enough. I suppose scale flying with a Beaver might be OK, but don't get into any wild flying. CKS

Very well said:
Propnut
Taildragger.
I'm wondering of all these many people that put VMAR down, how many of them have actually owned one.I'm sure some have and some may have had bad luck.I know some folks that had bad luck with Hanger 9 and some of the supposedly fantastic ARF's.
Everybody know that VMAR's have "no" balsa wood in them. It's tung wood.Altho not quiet as lite as balsa it gets the job done and done well. Both of my V's look great and get attention when ever people come visit the field.
I listened to all this !@#$%$##@ for quiet some time two years ago,but figured what the hell. I called and talked to Kelsey at Richmond and he said that the net is mostly negative.I certainly agree on that one.He said the best judge is the owner so I order the Edge..This was two years ago when the green was all you could get. I used everything in the box.Hardware included. It's all still in the plane and have had no problems at all.I've cartwheeled the plane, made very hard landings and it's all ready to go again. No problems.
That was two years ago...So I've kept an eye on the net and everyone is still slandering VMAR.
I just finished the new Arrow Tiger from VMAR.Man,what a beauty. It's ready to fly and can't wait to take it out.
The best part (I called Kelsey again about the cheap price) is that this beauty was $129!!!!!.Dirt cheap.Show me another ARF for 129 that looks this good and I'll eat it.The workmanship is much better than two years ago and I wasn't complaining then and I'm not complaining now.The engine mount, mounts directly to the firewall. There's no power pod.All in all very well made.In fact, any ARF or kit I put together gets extra Gorilla Glue in certain spots whether it needs it or not. This is just a common practice that everyone ought to do.
Check out the Arrow Tiger if you like that type of plane. It looks a whole lot better in person than it does on the website for sure.
I don't work for VMAR.I'm also retired in Texas and I like the VMAR's. Not top of the line, but $129??? I'll buy it!!!!

Ok have 2 VMAR apache ll hauled around by irvine 40 diesels and a apache lll mag 52 4 strk
and a hotrod irvine 53 davis diesel head plus the arrow these are built and flying the RV4, dornier and 7 ft beaver still in the box quality wise no real complaints
1, before gluing wing halves brushed epoxy around inside areas of each half
2 Fus. formers got a quick brush with epoxy at glue joints and a couple got cross braces
3 The hardware got replaced with sullivan clevises yes they make 2 mm almost all arfs
use sucky plastic stuff even kyoso and replace the wheels )i need bigger ones for flying
off grass. by the way my hot rod is converted to a tail dragger the ailerons cut 2 wing servos
and flaps installed
4 There has been lots of posts on putting arfs together most say check and reglue joints
and chuck the hardware replacing it all with stuff you trust less than$5
5 The only exception to my arf redue is pacific areomodel tiger moth all nice (ALL METAL ACCESS)
seemed like thousands of nuts bolts clevises etc also was also $200
The extra hour or 2 and $5 getting the vmars they way I like them makes them a great buy
My latest is a vmar cub 54" either 400 electric geared or 1/2 A glow I sliced off the really
bad wood beam mounts glued on a new firewall 1/8 ply to original radial plastic mount
OS10 davis diesel Dural gear added big wheels super flyer plane was$59 ok with new
dural gear and wheels an other$15 I just got a new cowl for this the first one was lost in
a bad ground loop only damage broken prop and cowl the "Tundra gear" works well on rough
fields on the OS 10 diesel 9x4 prop gets it off in a very short run

Dieseldan,
Tell me about the Arrow. I assume your talking about the Arrow Tiger. I just finished mine but need a new crank in the Irvine 53.Probably be next week.
I'll be using the 53 for starters and may go to the MVVS 49 with pipe. Wanted to start off mellow and this looks like a mellow plane.I really like the look of this plane.Sharp.
How does the Arrow handle in the air?? Did you put the throws as in the manual?? I balanced mine on a stand with slight nose down.Just guessing nose down like 20 degrees.I figured with the amount of fuel in the tank it would add quiet a bit of weight to the front.I don't make long flights. Not a whole lot since I filled the tank with water just to see how much it held and it was actually eleven and a half ounces..Yep,I dried the tank with alcohol afterwards.
Just wondering how you like it.
Glad to hear something positive about VMAR.
Thanx
Walt

Arrow 53 irvine davis head 13x6 wood zinger wheels went to 3 or 3 1/4 for clearence and grass
field, only one flight so far just a check out, throws per factory required a touch of down trim
loops , inverted, pretty quick hope to get it up soon again.quality ok had to mess with wing joiner
(sanding) to get it just right ( I hate gluing wing halves messy).I may have changed out the rods to 2/56 they fit the guide tubes fine, this is still a beeter setup than Kysoho with their wood sticks
and 2 pcs of piano wire one for the servo the other for the elevator or rudder that just float
suspended by servo and control horn only This what they did in my cap 232 (this got changed)
and $239 with that control system? that is a rip

After all the VMAR bashing I have a kyosho tigermoth, spitfire, and space walker these are
not cheap (not assembled yet) I did dry fit the wing on the space walker and IT NEEDS WORK
to close the gaps...I also as posted picked up a world models sky raider mach 2 a big $69.95
the wing joiner is notched to fit into the second inboard rib both sides and the wing halves
are a perfect fit best I have seen on ANY arf guess they are getting better by the way my VMAR
RV 4 looks fine really like it should be a fun put together

PJ,
Glad you like your Beaver..
I don't intend to rant and rave about VMAR's but they do have their place in the hobbby and I remember back when I was first wondering whether to buy one or not. I've never heard so much bashing and stuff but decided to do it anyway and have never regretted it.
They're cheap and not perfect, but what in this world is perfect, and cheap at the same time. Can't think of anything.
Good luck and Happy Flying

Just a liittle insight from an actual VMAR 10' beaver owner/flyer .
I bought one from Richmond about 2 years ago excited about the "low price "
What i got was a very inexpensive giant scale (using the word scale very loosely) aircraft .
I must admit that at first i was dismayed at the lack of quality that we as modelers demand .
However , after 2 years of flying this plane i am amazed at how durable it really is.
It has lasted much longer than i expected , my son is using it as a giant scale trainer now..
I have in previous conversations stated that i would not buy another one and did not know if i woud accept one as a gift either.
I suppose the first impressions of this ARF were that it was inferior . not so , just cheaper and not of the
high quality that we usualy demand .
If you feel that it fits your budget , and you need a low cost entry into giant scale , go for it ...
I've been flying it for 2 years on a G-38 with 9101 and s148 servos.......

I have had three V-Mar airplanes and I think they are great! I have had the Extra 300, Edge 540 and the Arrow Tiger. The new ECS couvering is a big improvement There is not another brand out there that can compare for such a great price.
