Hi All
Over the years I've purchased many RC airplanes, helicopters, and other stuff. Most of them have been broken at one point or another leaving me with an excess of controllers. I'd like to check out some RC airplanes and helicopters that come with everything except the controller/receiver. I'm looking for slow flyers using 4 channels that can be used in a relatively small area (soccer field). Can anyone recommend a product line that would work for me? Thanks in advance!

I am not sure if you have any of the right controllers, but its sounds like maybe a bind-n-fly would suit you well. If you do not have the 2.4 ghz spectrum controller, (which comes with the blade MCX) you could buy it with a plane or heli , like the champ, or the blade MCX and the next time you would just buy the plane, without a controller, as most are sold. all you have to do is bind it to the controller, and your ready to fly. Hope this helped. here is a link to bind-n-fly's on horizon hobby.com.

Those are pretty much what I'm looking for, thanks! I have a couple of 2.4GHz controllers as well as the receivers...do you know if I can swap the receiver out and use the one I have already bound to the controller? Can I swap a 72MHz receiver for a 2.4GHz and use everything else (speed controller, servos, battery etc)? Thanks for all of your help!

You know, im really not sure if that would work. It's a great idea. there is a good chance it would work and a chance that the difference in hertz could mess it up... but if you already had it bound to the controller, my guess is that it would be o.k. I'm no expert, so if your not comfortable experimenting, you could just buy a new controller. That would take up too much room though so I guess you could experiment and if by chance it does go wrong, that's one less old controller you have to worry about an then you could buy a new one? Well, best of luck with whatever your doing. That's all I have for you. Hope it turns out good for ya!

In general, servos and ESCs work equally well with 72 mHz and 2.4 gHz.
You can pull the receiver out of a BNF. Or, take a look at
Horizon PNP (plug and play) models

Tower RXR (receiver ready) models

Sounds like you have plenty of TX's and RX's to do anything you want. I have a number of Tx's and Rx's I saved from some of the RTF park flyer models I got when first starting out. Some are 27mHz and some are 72mHz setups. As long as the Tx and Rx match and the range is far enough using those you can pick and chose what you want to put in whatever.
GWS has a pretty broad range of foam kits that might suit your purposes quite well. From trainer style planes such as the Slow Stick and Tiger Moth to a decent collection of warbirds all in the 30" to 36" size. Those old TX's and RX's will probably work just fine in any of them especially if you are flying small fields and not going too far away from yourself. Bp Hobbys has a good selection to choose from : http://www.bphobbies.com/view.asp?id=V116672
The ARF's available are pretty easy to build, the instructions are in chinglish but with some good pics to help keep you going in the right direction. It's worth a look and you might find something that will suit your fancy.
Like carrelh stated, there are a whole lot of choices and options to choose from.

Perfect, that is exactly what I'm after guys. Thanks for the assist, hopefully I can buy a couple and not crash them in the first 10 minutes. Frustrating hobby sometimes but its exciting.

If you want the planes to last longer, try to find someone local to help you.
Put your zip code in the search box at http://www.modelaircraft.org/clubsearch.aspx to find flying clubs in your area. Most clubs have instructors who will teach you to fly for free.
There is expense to join AMA and a club but it can pay for itself pretty fast if it saves a few planes.

I'll give that a try, thanks!. I've been flying flight sims for most of my life (almost 38 now) and have flown real aircraft before as well. I also understand the principals of flight in some detail. What I lack is practical experience and time on the stick as well as a decent field. Most of my crashes have been because I didn't have enough room to manuver safely. Thanks for the link, I will check that out now.

Having room to make mistakes, and recover without hitting people or property, will probably help more than anything.
