RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
Tribute Saito 56 was the route i was gonna take. a few weeks back, I know the Saito 56 flys a Magic fine, and I think they weigh about the same, 12x6 or 13x4. If it don't work out what you want for the 56. lol

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
Akschu, thanks for the suggestion!! After I moved my cg to 5" by placing the battery behind the throttle servo bay, just under the wing bolt, it improved a bit the 3D but baloomed too much on landing, so I´m gonna move it back a little forward.
Propspinner, me too ordered an EF Edge 540T and would like to know how it performs 3d, so please let me know when you maiden it. I paln to use my Saito 82 on it. Also I´m still needing lots of up elevator to flight level with the Twist, in fact about 6 clicks on trim, even after placing CG at 5". Any probable cause? |
RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
Subject: Wing Bolt Fatigue
Situation: Freestyle 3D Flight Conditions: Gentle Breeze Smack Down the Runway Aircraft Involved: H9 T _ _ _ T Time of Incident: 20:05 EST Pilot: Downtrodden Witnesses: The Dodgeville Boyz (Rick, Kevin, RJ, and Carl) and Mrs. Carl Description of Incident: The 2 liter bottle of Coke placed on the runway was tonight's target. The object of the mission was to topple the bottle with one's aircraft while in the air. Kevin wasn't letting me "hover down" and topple it with my tail (His high-speed flybys with his P.O.S Uproar were his way of telling me he would cut me in two if I even tried to hover near that bottle.) After Rick nailed the bottle and then repeated it for good measure (With his Magic) I caught them all off guard and took the bottle out 15ft after takeoff! Much to their chagrin for not having thought of that technique themselves. Anyway..........The third (and soon to be final) flight of the T_ _ _ T had me trimming the ailerons! I came around and had to add another 5 clicks to get her to level out! I hurriedly lined up for landing all the while furiously adding clicks to the aileron. Upon touchdown the wing fell off and both the wing and fuse cartwheeled down the runway.......tossing the battery out as it tumbled. Conclusion: The wing bolt failed sometime during the last minutes of flight. The plane is heavily tail-weighted and if I had done any maneuver that would have lift being generated by the top of the wing.........I'm certain the wing would have separated in flight. Disiplinary Action Taken: None taken.........Those gathered are thoroughly bored with my T_ _ _ T and Mrs. Carl, I think spoke for the group when she said (while thinking she was out of earshot)..."Is that all he ever flies is that same 'ol airplane." I think I'm going to retire her from public flight and just fly her when I need lift. Other than that when I told my wife that the wing fell off......she winked at me..........told me I was a naughty boy.........and said she'd have to do something about that! But that's a different story. ;) JUST KIDDING! SHEEEEEEESH |
RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
It's good that you brought her in for that landing when you did! An inverted pass might have been the demise of the old girl with no wing bolt holding it in.

Pure luck.

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
GREAT STORY DOWN !!!!!
I love to hear things like that, not the cartwheel,,, but the save,,, good form,,, I say, I do have to ask though,,, how can the T_ _ _ T be boring in anyway,,, when I get bored of a craft, then it is time for the infamous, Ernst Kessler Death spin, without any intention of pulling out of it, I have only done that to 2 birds in my lifetime intentionally:D:D a few more not intentional :(what a great ending though, spiraling into the ground at WOT.... :D Adam Great shot,,, Looks like an awesome place to let loose in the sky.... 191 you are more then welcome to take my Trophy,,, But I have to get it back first..... Dab Nab it..... I should have never lost it.....but victory will be so much sweeter. As far as other Motors on the T _ _ _ T,,,,,, I can offer no advice,,, as I have only had the .70 on her for her entire life,,, Sorry... Have fun Kids |

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
I had the Evo .46 on mine & it flew it very well, I stuck The Evo .61 on it & turned it into a totally different bird. Mine was tail heavy anyway so I could put the bigger engine on it & take all that dead weight off.

ORIGINAL: Downtrodden Tim C, Extent of Damage: One (1) broken wing bolt.......that's it! Did I stink out of that one or what? Peace, Downtrodden I mentioned in an earlier post that I was getting things done that I'd put off for years. Well, I'd like to announce that I pulled a wheel off my old pick-up today and patched the tire. I'd only been airing it up every week for........................eight.................. ........years. Woo woo woo woo, we're talking human dynamo here. |
RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
I have to agree with TimC. I think I've never had a wing bolt break. Usually most of the hardware goes in another plane but the wood pieces go in the trash.
I still like my Twist the best. How can you resist a plane that looks like it belongs in an Easter basket. They won't sell as many of the 60 size because the color scheme looks blah.[:'(] |
RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
Tim C, what's your secret to all that energy? I've a similar problem....my aircraft carrier (read early model Chevy APV minivan) hasn't had rear brakes since I bought it for $100. Years later I find my front brakes just don't cut it going down steep hills and I'm relying more and more on downshifting the automatic. Now I'm not sure if its my reluctance to spend more on the brakes than I originally did on the vehicle or my procrastinating nature. I have to admit that I have it in the back of my mind to see how long this minivan is going to hold up without any maintenance whatsoever, so far I've only added gas. (Haven't even checked the oil.) Keep up the good work!
These Contentlink Ads are annoying, I for one protest their use!!$#@%@$#@$#@%$#@%$# |
RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
Gotta agree with you on the content adds.. If I wanted to see them, I'd like look at the top or bottom of the page, not in the middle of a thread. I'm still waiting to maiden my Twist. Got it all together, mounted the Saito, but waiting on the spinner adapter. I ordered it from some unnamed internet thief (not direct from Tru Turn), who showed it "in stock".. when I called to check on it yesterday, the answer was "we ran out of that model, more should be in on Wednesday". If I had just ordered the thing from Tru Turn (for the same price), it would have been at my house on Wednesday. I do respect dot com businesses that actually stock inventory, and try to support them, but when I run into lies like that from folks who drop-ship everything, I want to reach through the telephone lines and strangle them!

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
I have to say You boys have been deemed in my book as professional procrastinators, You have given me another goal to achieve, I have however, not done 1 single thing to our new home we moved into in December but I have rebuilt the T_ _ _t twice, and put together a few other models I'm still in the process of finishing. So I at least know where my priorities are..
|
RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
I have the opposite problem. I can't stand it when things are left undone. We had only been in our new home about 6 months when I started finshing the rest of the house. It took me 6 months to get it all finished from rough in to carpet. I wrapped it up a couple of months ago, and now I am going to tackle the deck. I enjoy working on things, but it drives me nuts to leave them undone. When I get everything done, I sell the house and build another.
It is the same way with my models. If one is down, it isn't down long. I have 11 up and running, and one unfinished that I lost interest in. I respect you guys that can just let a project sit until you are good and ready to get to it! Adam |
RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
I use to care what condition the house was in but with two boys they wreck it before I can get it all done. I would be happy in a condo with a full basement for a shop and just go Twistin' all the time.
I was just thinking[:@], some of the guys at our club that have the crummiest cars have the coolest planes. What do you make of that? |
RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
Here, here! After remodeling the upstairs bathroom, in this late Victorian wreck of a house we call home, I used it's deterioration as a case study and basis for future arguments with the missus. Needless to say it didn't take long for four girls and three boys to turn a hand-carved sinkbase into a beat-up, scratched and trashed piece of garbage not to mention the rest of the bathroom. Heck, I even disassembled the original doors, right down to the wood pegs that held them together and then refurbished them. You should see them now! After that, I figure I'll wait until I'm ready to sell it before I'll do anything other than maintenance. By the way, why is it that a teenager needs to put his full body weight on the neck of the kitchen faucet, effectively breaking a heavy brass casting? Oh, and can anyone tell me why Vasoline exists at all? Do you have any idea what it's like to prep a wall that's been smeared with Vasoline by a "creative" toddler? UGH! *Ok, take a deep breath buddy and calm down.* No, I've adopted a laid back approach to living....."If it ain't broke.....it will be......and when that happens......let 'em do without!" 'sides, it gives me more time to fly.
Peace. Downtrodden. |
RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
Prop,
I can't help but smile when I pull up my P.O.S. $100 vehicle next to the guy with the tricked out 4x4. Not only does he get the satisfaction of feeling superior to me for investing $40,000 in his ride, he also helps the economy. Without guys like him I'd never be able to buy used. Oh, I forgot to mention that every time he fills that beast with gas, he's paid exactly what I did for my entire rig. Car payment? What's that? Michigan Full Coverage Car insurance @ $150/month.......not me! His ride gets him from point A to point B in style, mine only gets me from point A to point B. I have to admit that I miss out on getting all the latest security systems and I don't get all that exercise from parking way out in the parking lot to insure someone doesn't scratch the paint...for that matter I've left the keys in the ignition since the day I bought it.........I wonder why criminals don't even give it a second look? Hmmmmm. I know, I should be a better consumer........I should be supporting the aftermarket suppliers and spending time and money keeping my ride primped and polished.........I'm bad. I was fishing near these guys that just arrived at this remote stream in their tricked out Jeep. I overheard them saying that they'd never have made it if it wasn't for the 44" "mudders" he installed last week at a cost of $450/each. When they rounded the corner and saw me fishing they asked if the fish were biting, but as I answered they stood there with their mouths wide open staring at my minivan that had arrived hours before. I loaded my limit of fish and bid them farewell. (At that particular stream, you have to get up pretty early in the morning, otherwise the fish stop biting.) To answer your question..........I don't know..........I have a crummy ride and all my planes will eventually turn into crumbs. Peace, Downtrodden |
RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
Just think,,,,[sm=idea.gif]once your planes all turn to crumbs, you can pour them into a home made mold and create a new plane,[sm=49_49.gif] just mix the crumbs with epoxy and wala,,:D and there is nothing like a pre molded epoxy frame for durability.

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
I am anal about the house, but the truck, I am with you guys on that one. I am spoiled becasue I have had a company truck since for about 10 years now. My company pays the insurance, payment, and gas. I put about fourty thoudand miles a year on it, so it doesn't stay new for long. I did have them put leather in latest one because when I throw my slimey planes in the extended cab, the fuel and oil doesn't soak in quite as fast. The dog hair from my two "flying buddies" doesn't get engrained in the seat quite as fast either. The tools in the back take there toll as well.
I figure a truck is for work, and you might as well use the heck out of it. The house on the other hand I am way too fussy about. I have a feeling when I have kids here in the near future, I will have to relax that a little bit. I can't even imagine 7 of them DT. That is just plain old amazing. I am planning on maidening my Miss America 60 sized p-51 mustang today after work. I have the spring air pneumatic gear installed, and my Saito 100 is broke in and ready to go. This is my first plane with retaracts, so I am very excited. I hear they fly really nice. Adam |
RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
I don't know if this is an amazing story, crazy or just wanting some sympathy. I used to not work on the house much but spent a lot of time working on my 66 mustang & planes. 3 yrs ago some how my motherinlaw got the OK to move in with us (not sure how that happened). So I had to build an addition on our house for her. I designed it to someday become a Pool Room with Bar. Well the old gal is 76 and I am willing to bet she will out live me. Now I seem to spend a lot of time working on this & fixing that (where & when will it end). The mustang sit's in the barn with 3 yrs of dust on it & I just have to put my foot down when it comes to working on my planes. OK that made me feel a little bit better telling someone about my troubles. Thanks for listening.

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
191557,
If my mother-in-law moved in with us, I'd move out or have my head examined or both! You have my sympathies and then some!!!!!! Is there anything I can do? Peace, Downtrodden. |
RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
191557,
OK, here is how you have to play this one. You have to convince your wife that you are etremely happy to have you Mother In Law living with you, and that it is no sacrifice at all. The only thing that you ask in return is that her Social Security checks go to planes and fuel. Adam |
RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
191,,, I say have your mom in law fix your planes,,, show her how to do it, so then you can be flying and then just bring them back to the hanger for repairs,,, or have her build you a new one, and if all else fails she can be the one who Irons on the monocoat for you, I'm sure she will be more then happy to help,,, and you would be more then happy to have all your planes finished...
Gotta pay rent somehow I say..... Did I just dream that........ |
