Yep, control line planes... all the effects of a six-pack without the wait! Sorry to hear about all the rain out on the island, but glad to hear you got a few flights in.

191557, you've got 2 years on me, so don't pretend anymore, accept it! you can't change it!

Yeah 191,,,, whats up with that,,,,, I'm 44

I don't mind the rain at all anymore, especially when your flying a T_ _ _ T !! It is a great plane to push the envelope with, it really handles all elements pretty easily.

I forgot to mention My right side aileron did come half way out of the wing on my first flight today, the epoxy mix must not have been well, or time had just taken its toll on the stress of the surfaces, but I thought on an overhead pass I could see a little extra cloud in between the aileron and the wing,, so I landed her immediately only to discover the 2 inside hinges were completely out,, and the 3rd hinge was halfway in, but the far out hinge was fully seated. Yes I was a lucky boy,, I think one more flat spin would have ripped it right out. so I epoxied them back in and had 3 more great flights,,, when i arrived home and was putting the plane back on the shelf I noticed the rudder being a little loose so I tugged on it and she came right off in my hand,, every hinge and the tail wheel hinge came right out of the fin with about as much pressure as folding a piece of paper in half,,,,,, ZOWIE[X(],,,,,,, far out man[sm=72_72.gif] I think I'll be pinning in all my hinges this week. to have that much going wrong with the plane and still have it perform like it did,, is a definite credit to the plane..:D

Waldo....you lucked out my friend:DBetter take care of that yellow beauty, or she might take "revenge" one of these days....:D:D
Unfortunately...I think I need to be a little bit sharper too.....just because all the servo's and control surfaces are mounted today, that does not mean they still will be mounted at the end of the day!!;)So I need to be checking my baby out more frequently too.....;)

Today another day with the O.S. 61.....while the guys on the other bench were tinkering on their SuperTigre, I fired up the O.S in the blink of an eye. You should have seen their faces:D:DWhat a wonderful powersource it is!!!;)I still run her pretty rich..she is still so new...I like to give he plenty of time to break in...but boy,o,boy, what a great engine it is.;)

Since she is slightly heavier, I need to keep in mind that on a day without wind, I keep a little bit of power on her when coming in. Today I came in, and cut back on the throtlle. A few inches above the ground, she dropped. With a somewhat heavy nose, she stalled on me....duhh!!;)So...another learning moment. Next flight..just a little more speed and power, and she sailed in..:D

Golly Gee willikers Guys I didn't mean to offend anyone, Down here in Okla. we don't get no schoolen and I ain't got no idea what yall were sayin. the mosten in math we learn here is our gazentas. ( ifin ya got 2 wings & 8 hinges, 2 gazenta 8 4 times, so it takes 4 hinges per wing).
Jeepers Waldo thats really far out that you got your T---T back with all those hinges loose. I bet when that rudder pulled out you said (well ain't that F----N Cool). Just having fun guys. I really ENJOY reading this stuff . So keep it up. By the way my T---T is still flying but nothing exciting to tell, Just a COOL & FAROUT Plane to fly.

If you remember the 70s you weren't there

Well I have to tell y'all this weekend was sheeeeet for flyin'! Adam G. drove all the way up here to the proverbial sticks and I believe we got our years supply of rain the two days he was here. Now livin' in a small town is bad nough, but trying to point out the highlight(s) of a soggy wet town under the gloom of a gray sky is fruitless! His T_ _ _ T stayed in his truck, unflown, and mine continued gathering dust in the workshop. Now I don't know about you folks, but I have to tell ya if'n ya don't already know........ya meet the nicest folks in this here hobby!

Waldo, I've replaced the CA hinges twice on my bird and when it happens again I'm gonna get me some nice brass piano hinge and run it full length on all surfaces and up the engine size that Chevy 350 you keep tell'n me 'bout! I've got pinned hinges on my other T _ _ _T and I have yet to have a problem. Maybe if you didn't fly in all that rain, the balsa wouldn't get soaked and cause the poxy to fail?........Oh, that's right........if you didn't fly in the rain, you wouldn't get any flyin' time in, right?

Dutch, when I broke my OS .61 in I ran two tanks trough it, somewhat rich, and then adjusted the needle 200-300 rpms less than "pinch". I believe I can safely say I have put 40 gallons through that engine since last October while maintaining that setting without incident. I have used the MAS 13x5 almost exclusively and I'm still on the original glowplug. The OS .61 FX is an extra primo good engine. Nough said.

Peace,

Downtrodden

Dutch, Yes I certainly did luck out, But thats what the name of this game is.

191 You didn't offend anyone LOL I think the reason this thread has lasted so long is the great characters and fun we have on this thread,, not only is it informational to anyone with a T_ _ _ T but its also humorous and there is so much other information from this group that applies to more then just the T_ _ _ _ , If I found this thread I before I went to school I might not have needed to go, cause I'm pretty dumb after investing 17 years of my life to schools and some of those teachers,,, I tell you,, You guys have been my greatest teachers, and since I found this thread nothing has been more far out, since.

DownT, thats a bummer that Adam got all the way out there and couldn't fly with you, I'm sure you guys had a good time regardless,, This plane is the very first plane in my life I glued the hinges into, The only reason I even did it was because when I wipe off the plane parts at the end of the day the pin ends would trap little pieces of paper under and around them not that didn't just blow right off, but I wanted to try a plane that just wiped down smoothly, But I am going right back to pinning them, plus when you need to work on something you can just pop out the pins remove the surface and put it right back together again, No breaking or cutting hinges in place to get the surface off, I love that, it makes repairs way more far out....

I guess the best answer would be to stop crashing,,,,[:-] but what fun would that be...:D

In the words of a famous Southern California punching bag... "why can't we all just get along.."

One thing I've noticed getting back into this hobby is to constantly be aware of my tords. After each crash, replaying the fatal moment in my mind, I'm reminded that just before the flight ended, it was flying "tords" the ground.

What usually tears up my planes is a chemical reaction. When wood comes in contact with dirt without the presence of air. One thing I found that is cool is to take off my T---T, I do not need the runway, I just rev her up and throw it.

I'm tired of my saying so I won't say it any more. How about this one.

That was Quick.

Jack, Downtrodden had a beef with Horizon Hobbies. He got so mad at them he refused to print out the name of their products. The poor Twist (who's never done anyone any harm)was an innocent victim of Downtrodden's rage. The printing of Twist as T___t kind of caught on.

Tim C, it sounds so petty when you put like that, but I would be curious to hear your thoughts if it was your $200 lost because of faulty manufacture. Tim, it's not rage, it's disgust! It's perfectly ok, if everyone doesn't agree with me, I just think its appropriate to voice my concern, maybe they'll consider the next guy's issue with faulty goods. I thank those that wish to show their solidarity in regards to this issue and once again state that the T_ _ _ T is a great plane. But after being treated so poorly by customer service, I can no longer endorse the company or their products and this seems to be an exercise in free speech that might have more of an impact than saying nothing. Hey, I enjoy this hobby.......how else could I explain paying such unrealistically inflated prices ........such as $10 for a few servo arms or say $6 for a servo extension, etc., etc., etc.?

*Getting off the soapbox*

Peace,

Don't you mean "Pass the Viagra?" *Then instead of bong it would be "BOING"!*

Tim C, I knew you were applying the screws......I chuckled as I read your post......no offense taken. Thank you for giving me the opportunity it presented! That's the beauty of the T _ _ _ T thing......................every now and again someone's inquiry into what it all means, gives me the opportunity to bring this issue (that really concerns us all) to the forefront. I know it gets boring to long-time threadies, but I try to keep it brief. Can you imagine the impact that letters would have? ;) ;););) *See how easy it was to climb up on that soapbox?*

There are times that I want to go buy a used injection-molding machine, whip up a few molds, and flood the market with heavy duty servo arms at twice the cost of manufacture.............10 cents. RC Co-Op.........hmmmmmmm?
Even though I'm in my forties, it's evident there's still alot of the sixties in me!

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D

Dutch,

I have heard that you don't want to run them rich too long. 4 or 5 flights should do it. The reasoning I heard is they break in too cool, and then when you start leaning them out it changes the expansion and contraction and you can loose some compression. I have no idea if this is true, but I have had good success with running them really rich for the first 2 flights, leaning it out a touch more for the second 2 flights, and then running it at my usual setting after that. I always run them a touch rich just to make sure I keep em running cool. Just my .02.

Waldo,

I have had my tail hinges come loose due to those 3 point landings jolting the tail wheel whcih pops the hinges. I now grab the control surfaces after each flight and give them a tug. I am glad you got her down in one piece.

Down,

Thanks you for showing me around your beautiful town. Too bad we couldn't fly. The colors on the trees alone were worth the trip. Stay on those manufacturers butts for us! They have to be made accountable. All in all they do a pretty good job. Great Planes and Thunder Power are 2 companies that have always gone above and beyond for me. They replace anything you have a problem with sight unseen. We need to praise the good guys too.

Twisters,

Glad you guys are having fun with these planes. Mine is sitting in the back of my truck just itching to get out and fly after the long spell of rain. I can't wait until lunch time.

Adam

WOW :):) Bongs,, Viagra,, T_ _ _ Ts ,,,,We should put that all together for the Change into the next Decade I think If I did a bong and took Viagra, I would probably freak myself out, [sm=what_smile.gif] and I don't htink I would be able to fly the T_ _ _ T as It would crash as I watched the pretty Purple and yellow trails,, [sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

191 Thanks for Musical memories

Adam,, Those 3 point landings would explain the rudder, But I haven't landed on my Ailerons in quite sometime.

Instead of throwing it Try just dropping it on the wind. Hold your hand on top of the Fuse crank it up then just take a step and drop it on the wind. No fuel in your face no nose dive's no off balance throws. Try it i've been launching my SPAD that way for years!!!

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D

This is one amazing thread. I have read about 1 out every 10 pages of it and suprised at the opinions of this plane. I purchased one new but damaged off ebay and did some minor wing repair and installed a super tigre 45 engine on it. I had about 8 yrs flying at that point and found this thing strange to fly. After a few flights I was in love with it. I began increasing throws and changing the cg till I had a wild fun flier. I sold the engine to a friend in need and installed a os 46 fx (note with both engines it required alot of lead in the nose) even with the fx engine I didn't really do well with 3d I just figured I lacked what was needed to hover and such. I flew the plane for 2 years before I got sick of fixing the fuse so I benched it. It sat on the shelf till I had a wing fail on my sukhoi and I broke out the old twist and added some supports to the fuse and stuffed a magnum 91 four stroke in the nose and it balanced in the middle of the cg range (added a 12 oz tank which was a mistake) do to cg changes during flight. I love this thing more then ever flying 10% omega fuel and a 14X6 prop it harriers hovers and flat spins like a dream (does it all better on the second half of the tank) In my opinion 99 dollars a over kill engine and its a blast. Mine is 3+ yrs old and pretty beat I have flown it summer winter fall spring Best money I ever spent.I don't fly competition and dought I ever would or could with it but I recommend the twist and am buying another.
