Look at the previous posts...there is plenty of pictures and info on the OS 160 DPSC setup

ORIGINAL: crankpin

The DP Super Cub. I am building the Sig 1/5th scale J3 kit with Saito 90T. Need to get in air quicker.
I have that airplane with a Saito .72 on it. The .72 is almost too much, and I fly at a field elevation of 5,550' asl. That 90T is going to be nice, since it has a bit less power than a single .90, so you should be "just right." If it doesn't work out for you, let me know, because I want a twin for my SIG Cub! I'll buy your's, for a good price. :) Enjoy!

Lachlan - OK. If I get too involved with the DP Cub, I will sell you the 90T at a very good price. I paid $600 even. Hobby shop I deal with does not charge me tax or shipping.

Hey Hill202 that's a picture of my airplane you posted to start this page. The crank is off center by 1/8" not a 1/4" and I can live with that, you can't even tell once the spinner and prop are on. I could have gotten it almost perfect but the cylinder head would have touched the side of the cowl (the way I have it there's clearance). So if someone wants to spend the $650.00 for the twin OS go for it, but I'm very happy with my Saito 150 setup which is more than enough power and flies the airplane like a dream!

RE: Dave Patrick super cub

Orvel, I was trying to make a point with Espirit Models, the people I purchased my Cub from. Your plane looks great, I meant no offense.

I opted for the twin as I was unsure about the fit of the 150. The extra bucks are definitly slowing the project down

Hill202 03-05-2006 04:45 PM

RE: Dave Patrick super cub

Looking ahead, it appears the rudder servo will not be centered on the servo tray, how does this effect the pull pull system?

crankpin 03-05-2006 08:17 PM

RE: Dave Patrick super cub

Question on the DP Super Cub please. I saw in some past post's, the G26 not a good choice for some modelers. Will the OS 160T fit completely inside the cowl ? Getting ready to get one. Which is the most popular engine for this plane ? I guess the answers are in past forums, just trying to get fast info here.

Thanks,
Vince

the 1.6 is perfect, do you know where there is a yellow one in stock in the us[&:]

RE: Dave Patrick super cub

Frank99 - No I don't. I was afraid of this, as I had read somewhere that the DP SC is made on the same line as some other ARF's, and he has to get a slot to get in production line.
Don't know all the facts. If we look at the whole picture, there may be a world wide demand for the plane. I will find out this week and post here the results. I guess you already have.
I am building the Sig 1/5th scale Cub, and purchased the Saito 90T for it. It is going to take a little while to get it finished, trying to make close to scale.

the yellow cub is over priced but it may be the best arf in the WORLD, have several parts for mine(muff engine radio wheels) but hopeing this plane will cool off and be in stock, not yet[&:] so went with a 1/3 scale cub, putting on fabric on the ailerons, killing time, waiting for the p-18 just missed a clip wing but want the yellow one thanks frank

RE: Dave Patrick super cub

I feel very fortunate to have gotten my clipped wing cub here on RCU. Sorry to all of you that have to wait. As I posted earlier, I have installed a 3W 24 in the nose and will probably have a balance issue. So, I have opted to install the elevator servos in the tail. I cut the openings staggered below the horiz. stab. With the rec. and ignition batteries back with the receiver, the balance came out right at the suggested CG. As I get more done, I will continue to post my progress and photos.

Frank - Who did you backorder with? DP Models or your local hobbyshop? What is the ETA? Looks like I will call one in today.
Thanks,

Good luck..... I asked Dave Patrick at the WRAM show regarding availability.... he said not anytime soon! Owe well....

I'm sure it won't be long before another vendor starts offering the same Cub. It seems to be the trend with some of the other ARF vendors....

this thread is great but I can't find one picture of the rudder and elevator servo set-up! Some used 2 servos on the elevator I don't know how they got all those pushrods ,along with the pull-pull rudder, to fit in that narrow fuse.

Frank,

www.espritmodels.com may have the clipped wing in stock. Thats where I got mine.

RE: Dave Patrick super cub

This is in response to Crankpin, he's right in regards to DP SC availability. I spoke to Dave at the WRAM Show, evidently Horizon Hobbies uses the same factory in China that he uses, and since they are bigger they got more leverage. They only run Dave's airplanes in-between Horizon runs if/when they get an open slot. He really sounded frustrated when we talked. It's a shame 'cause the Super Cub is a great quality airplane, and rigth now the demand way exceeds the supply. If you have one, feel fortunate, that's how I feel about mine.

Orvel - Your message just confirms my thoughts. Maybe DP can find another source. I am building the Sig 1/5th scale J3 with Saito 90T. I will call DP today and backorder one. If it takes a year, so be it. I will do some research this week and drop a note here on what I find out.

For those of you using the OS 160 twin: What and where did you make your cutout(s) in the bottom of the cowl for the air exit holes? It looks like if you make one larger hole, it will take most of the scoop out of the cowl. Maybe two smaller ones on either side of that scoop in the cowl? Thanks in advance!

:Dthe 160 only has the lower rectangle opening cut out in the cowl of mine, with soft type sceen glued in behind to keep junk out of the carb. never had an over heat yet, the gills of the cowl are plenty large for air excape, flying in 90+ days...... builder jim

Hey Frank, I found in Bob Nelitz's article on the cub he got his cowl made from his plug at hobbybarn in Tucson Az. I emailed them to see if they still have any. hobbybarn.com I think fiberglass specialties has one also.

Anyone have a line on when the DP Yellow SC is going to production again? Does DP backorder previous requests for the SC?
Is getting one from DP just a dream? Any advice would be appreciated.

RE: Dave Patrick super cub

Vince, you may not have a DP SC, but you had weather to die for today!

As I've heard in the past from Sandy at DP Models, your order is filled according to your place in line. The sooner you call and get in line, the sooner your chance of getting one. When I ordered mine, I told her to call me before they charge my card and ship, to make sure I still wanted it. She did just that when they had stock again. I got the last one in the last shipment last August.

It took me 8 months from the day I ordered it to the day I got it, but it was well worth the wait! On the DPM website it says they are coming out with new models. Has anyone heard of the new line up?

RE: Dave Patrick super cub

Maybe I have the right spot for Super Cub information. Does anyone have a line on a wing for a H-9 100" super Cub wing or plans for building one. Are there other manufactures wings that would work ? I don't have the old wing to build from. Any information is appreciated.

Terry

TripleDeucer 03-21-2006 11:57 PM

RE: Dave Patrick super cub

Terry, if your needing a wing replacement, H-9 is very reasonable on the cost of their replacement parts. If they are out of stock with no delivery date, that is a different story. Kind of like DP Models.

tdred76 03-22-2006 05:20 PM

RE: Dave Patrick super cub

Mark, they no longer have the wing in stock and will not be reproducing them. H-9 will not be selling any copies of plans for the plane either. Hopefully I will run across one of them, would like to get it in the air this spring.

Well, I guess with all these ARFy's being made in china and flooding the market, that's kind of normal. We need to fight back and start building kits or scratch em out again.

Frank

The engine mount is adjustable. Its a SWB mount. I am trying to take my time and do it right. The picture don't show but I'm almost finished. Maiden should be in a week or so. Did you ever try Esprit Models for a DPM Cub? They had the clipped wing in stock a while back.

Got my Super Cub just about done. OS 160 twin, JR servos and radio. I did a few minor scale details to dress it up just a bit. Full cockpit, with a full body pilot. I have been following this thread for over a year, and just now have my plane ready to go! Still waiting for the weather to break here, but once it does I will be ready!
