Default Continued Battery Life Problems

Alright, well for starters, I've been having some serious issues with the battery life of the receiver pack(s) in my XTM XT2.

I'm not exactly sure why but I cannot seem to get more than about 10 minutes out of the batteries for the receiver in my truggy. I've tried three different packs, and even bought some brand new 2800MAH rechargeable AA's and used a 4-piece AA receiver pack, in addition to 3 other 5-cell 2/3A packs. One was 1600MAH, another 1200, and the last one that didn't deliver was a 1000MAH.

I've been charging the packs as per recommended by the manufacturer on a Duratrax Piranha Digital Peak Charger. Charge rate of 1a. I did the forming charge as recommended as well.

What happens is after 10 minutes or so, the built-in low battery failsafe on my Futaba FASST system kicks in. This was never a problem before - it only started recently, and I've not changed any hardware.

Like I said, none of the packs, OR the AA's, seem to hold up for more than 10 mins. I don't know why.

The servos go from running perfect to just sluggish and pitiful. The change isn't gradual either. It's as if all the life drains out of the batteries all at once.

Is it possible one of the servos or one of the wires is grounding out or something? Would that cause this to happen? I haven't seen any burnt up or hot wires, though, so maybe not?

This is really driving me nuts. I'd really appreciate some help.

I'm gonna post this in the RX/TX forum as well, just since I'm not sure where this issue should be specifically posted.

use an ammeter to check the current consumption of your system.
10min discharge time means over 5c or about 10A!!!
it will generate more than 50watt heat on something!
I think the problem is related to the voltmeter of the fail safe system.

Yes you need an in-line amp meter or watt meter, check total system draw in between the battery and receiver, and then you can check current draw of individual servos.

Also a voltmeter that you can plug into the system would be handy, to see at what voltage your failsafe system kicks in at.

That's what I was wondering.

Is this a known issue with Futaba FASST 2.4ghz receivers?

And yeah, the batteries are never hot. Not even after charging.

I was also thinking that if it was drawing that much current (theoretically, of course) that it would melt the wires.

to be honest I have no experience with FASST receivers.
but you can place a 5cell pack to test the fail safe voltage level.

Before you go nuts, try a lower charge rate. Charge those 2200 ma. packs at 200 ma. or less overnight. It sounds like your charger is kicking off way too soon. If you got a full charge into that pack at 1 amp rate, that pack should be warm to the touch. Nimh packs should be charged at 1/10 C or less. Good luck.

My advice are, that individual Cell testing needed ..

So , one battery tester with load ... are what you are looking for.

I am electronics engineer , and got the " Ansmann check LCD " , I have many types of batteries to deal with .

You can get the cheaper Ansmann NiMH tester , and do the job too.

Is it possible that your esc got reprogrammed with high voltage cutoff?
