its an awesome little plane..... but the covering is terrible..... everyone i know that has one will attest to that

i bought mine when it was advertised as using Ultracote..... other than the covering its indestructible..... i did a full throttle dive into a blender on several occasion and it passed the test....something i would usually never attempt in a

i also did some Dave Brown checkers on the bottom to make it looked distinguished. http://www.flickr.com/photos/31850530@N08/5610785442/

yeah thought about putting checkers on the bottom. my covering is flawless thus far. Did you use the stock fuel tank? I'm thinking about dropping in an 8 0z tank, since I'm going gas on this one. I can't open your photos says they are private.

Ummm... ok. Call me dumb, well, under-informed, but where is the fuel tank, batteries, receiver.. usually these profile planes have all that hanging on the side of the fuse.

Not on this one CG. It actually has about a three inch wide fuselage, tank, ignition, rx, and throttle servo are all mounted inside the fuselage. On my morris profile the tank and batteries are mounted inside the wing.

Thanks.
I put an aftermarket tail wheel assembly on mine. Never thought about grass catching the elevator on high rates. good info! thanks

Gorish,
Yes Sir I do! Here tis. http://www.valleyviewrc.com/estore/ This takes you to the home page, find the airplane tab at the top. Then gas and glow, then valley view RC planes and then 20cc yak. (orange) For some reason when I posted the actual product link, it would not load. Could be my java script is jammed up so here is the product link, maybe you can get it to work ok, http://www.valleyviewrc.com/estore/v...ro-orange.html

Also, it appears that if I use the stock tank, I will have to trim the forward wing dowels to get the tank to fit. The manual was absolutley horrible, but it was fun trying to figure stuff out. Easy, but with a manual like that, a true beginner would be "lost in the soup".

[/quotYeah, I got a dubro 8 oz tank for mine, the one that came with it is huge. I should get 15 minutes on 8 oz. That is close to the tail wheel I bought. Running a double clunk on the tank, and will loop the vent. The squares on your bottom wing look cool.

Did you CA or epoxy on the inside to strenghten it any where?

Ah. Thanks, Bill. From the perspective of the picture in your post, I couldn't tell how big it was and it looks smaller than that. Cool!!

yes definitely use thin CA on all the joints, some were pretty weak... i also added a little bracing and a place to strap one of the batteries ...i also cut the floor board out to mount the ignition under the front of the tank.

The plane is pretty much indestructible now.... i did a couple of full throttle dives into full left aileron into a violent blender and it held up

one thing you might need issome bigger aileron horns to compensate for the huge double bevels the ailerons have.... maybe they revised the kit and added the correct size, mine any my brothers ARFs came with the wrong ail. HW

Thanks, the horns that you show in the pic look like the ones that came with mine. I cut a opening, just behind the fire wall on the bottom of the fuse (making a hatch cover out of ply for access) for the ignition wire. I was thinking that the supports all lok a tad weak.. so will CA the crap out of it. What CG did you end up with? 6 inches? Can't wait to fly it. What servos did you end up using? I'm using Spektrum A-6020 for rudder and elevator and HITEC HS-5485HB for the ailerons. Did you add longer control arms on the servos? Sorry for all the ????s, but want this one right for the maiden.
Thanks

yes i added longer arms on the ailerons but they really arent needed... and i used 1.5" servo arm elev and i can get over 40 deg in any direction, and 1.25 for rudder

i used 5925(old hi speed hitecs) and 5625 on elev and rudder and a 625 on throttle...

for the maiden flight.......with the wings and hatch on i CGd it right on the wing tube.. i got some kite string and made a quick cradle

im happy to help

The pics look great! I've been on the fence on one of these for a while so will look to this thread to push me over the edge!

ORIGINAL: billd76

Almost together. just fuel tank and servos, went together easy, no issues. Manual was terrible. DLE 20 looks good on it and will sound even better!

Will post more pic then, as I complete the yak. Which should be today or tomorrow. Weather is not looking good for the weekend, but hope to maiden soon. Also finishing up a PA Mx extra.

ok another question. Where did you mount your throttle servo? and did you use a rod or wire for the throttle.

i mounted it behind the tank.... i used 440 all thread rod cut to size and a flex rod tube to eliminate friction.... if you need a pic lemme know, i can do that

sounds good, a pic would be nice. Just finished CA's everything I could reach on the inside of the fuse. Also going to remove the landing gear and CA the landing gear bolt holes. I was told that the landing gear block was just balsa. Getting close. I ended up plumbing the 8 oz tank. It is already for hookup. Need to get the LHS and get a nice white or black spinner.

i had problems with that too... i ended up using 1/8" thick2"x2" aluminum plates epoxied to bare wood, and its held up well.... ill take some pics when i get out of work

Closer to maiden. Everything is installed but the throttle servo. I have a standard servo. But think a micro servo for the throttle would be better. Could mount it closer to the engine. Will figure something out. PA mx extra is almost ready too. Just need to solder connections on the ESC and hook up the control surface rods. Maidened the Morris hobby profile today. Two perfect flights!!!!

if you go mini...make sure its metal gear and that it doesnt not bind

the servo has 4-40 all thread through a tube to prevent friction.... sorry it ttook so long to upload pics
