Default help with flaps!!!

I am in no way a begginer in rc, however i am a begginer at programming transmitters. on to my issue.....my first plane was an old hangar 9 p 51 pts.....one of the older guys at the field gave it to me with an old airtronics radio system......one day flying at the field with the old 72 mhz radio...a lot of the older guys havent yet converted to 2.4...another guy turned on his transmitter on the same channel...and down she goes...luckily the person that had given me the plane had come down hard on a landing before and wrecked the wing. he ordered a whole new kit to rebuild the wing...also the only thing not damaged on my plane was the wing. so i have the new fuselage and installed all of the electronics....thereare two servos one for each aileron, and one for the flaps. i have the ailerons plugged into my spektrum ar600's aileron port using a y harness. i also have the flap servos pulugged into the gear port. and i have tried it in both the gear and aux port. so i cant get the flaps to work...i am using a dx6i...i have set the travel, and tried a bunch of different mixes and what not that people have suggested through other peoples posts........so is there anyone out there that could help me fix this!!!! its supposed to be 60 and sunny this weekend and id like to bring her out for a flight!!

Can't help you with the DX 6, but I remember having a similar problem with my 6xa. What kind of Y-harness are you using for the flap servos? Try plugging just one servo into the flap port and/or the gear port and see if it works, if it does, the problem is most likely that you need a reversing harness.

You need to make aux1 (flaps) the master and slave the gear channel to it in a mix, then you can have each servo running on a seperate channel. I am assuming that you are not running retracts, correct?
Here is a link to the owners manual if you don't have one. It will tell you how to do it if your not sure, see pages 68-75. Hope this helps.

are you talking about checking the ailerons?...the ailerons work okay...and i know the flap servo works....which is by itself and the flaps are sperate from the ailerons.....one thing i found on line made it stick at about 60 percent down,,but the switch didnt do anything for it

Not exactly what I meant. What I was wondering was: if you plugged only one servo into the gear channel or the flap channel, do those channels operate a single servo correctly? If so, the problem is in your harness, if not, then it is a parameter that needs to be altered in the radio.

My Dx6i will work a servo from the flap/gyro switch through a 600 RX.

The servo is plugged into the Aux port.

I had to go to the FLAPS function on the TX and set at least a landing value for anything to happen when I flipped the switch. I chose to have the switch in the up position for NORMal flight. In normal flight the flaps are up so the values in the TX were left at zero for NORM. Dialing in some value for LANDing got the servo to move when the switch was flipped down.

You can see if the TX is sending and how much by looking at the MONITOR display while flipping switches or moving the sticks. That'll at least tell you the TX is doing what it's supposed to.

Oh yeah, you set those values in the FLAPS function.

i have set the flaps travel on the menu...and the servo works correctly and the gear port works correctly.....just when i flip the switch it doesnt change position.....one forum suggested a couple different mixes and one of them the flaps stayed at about 60 percent down no matter which way i flipped the switch....is there a mix that i have to do? or something else

I had trouble with mine once and it had something to do with wing selection. I had not selected the rite type of wing..I have trouble every time with my radio set up... DX7

da Rock pointed out what I think will help: the Monitor screen. this screen shows what signal the TX is sending to which channel.
(how to get to the monitor is on page 37 on the manual's link provided above) http://www.spektrumrc.com/ProdInfo/F...anual_DX6i.pdf

while you're looking at the monitor, flip the flap switch.. you should see exactly which channel the tx is sending the command to... (you should see the little triangle move across the monitor.. if none move, no servos will move when flipping that switch)
it's POSSIBLE that you may have the flaps disabled / flap switch inhibited if you're re-using an aircraft profile..

I'd suggest you start by checking the 'wing tail type' is NOT set to dual ailerons/ Vtail. (if you DO have the wing type set to dual ailerons, the TX expects the LEFT AILERON will be plugged into Ch6 / Aux1.. ) ..
some assumptions: (let me know if I got this part wrong) the ailerons are connected to the receiver with a Y cord, the Flaps are connected to either channel 5 or 6 with a Y cord.

(Pg 44 in the manual... DUALAILE, V-TAIL and ELEVON should all show 'INH' <inhibited / off> ) (if you DO have the wing type set to dual ailerons, the TX expects the LEFT AILERON will be plugged into Ch6 / Aux1.. which is what we want to use for FLAPS )
next make sure the servo travel adjustment is set for the flaps, (Pg 64 in the manual) set the flap value to 100%, THEN FLIP the flap switch and make sure you have 100% for the other direction (I THINK this may be where the issue is if you're not sure move any stick... you'll see what I mean that you need to set the servo travel for both directions)

FINALLY, you'll need to actually set the flaps themselves (pg 68) be sure to set a value for both 'NORM' and for 'LAND'
try going back to the 'monitor' screen and you should see the Aux1 channel actually move now when you flip the switch.
Take a deep breath, have a cup of coffee... we'll get this worked out.
