Hey Zimbo,
It doesnt look good... I mean i asked the question a little while back but we have had only 29 posts including a few just from us. Im not a moderator but i just cant see the viability of an auzzie/new zealand forum if no-one wants one (votes for it or posts a message of support here. Though i must thank the people who have shown support...

ahhh,
thats a pity about the forum. Could it be possible that there are lots of other ozzies and kiwis in other forums that haven't looked her. Moderator- would be aloud to place a general message in all the forums to attract more interest?
Thanks

G'day everyone,
I guess we didn't get a go with this one did we?? I have only seen this today, & I think it would have been a great idea, as alot of our questions are related to stuff we need to be able to find here in Oz, or NZ.
Shame as it has its benefits.....
Tony.

Dear All,
Just found this thread and happy to be involved although agree the lack of activity doesn't make it look good for an Oz only site.
I have found there is a bewildering amount of great information out there on sites like R/C Universe, http://airfieldmodels.com/index.htm, and the like, thanks Paul your site is amazing. Newbies may have some difficulty in "sorting the wheat from the chaff" and what constitutes credible info.
From my experience I have found that advice offered by the R/C Universe moderators like Minn and sites like Paul's, always provide methods that will work. Even if I sometimes take a slightly different route to the same end and puzzle over seppo brands. Still I was pleased to see a failure to understand what PVA is called in the USA
.
Locally I find the mags and newsletters keep me abrest of issues and goings on. Over many years I have developed a knowledge of local and OS suppliers to get best range and dollar value.
Sites like Paul's and this one have allowed me to learn and confirm more in the last two to three years than fourty plus years of pre internet modeling. Thanks to all whose advise has assisted me or confirmed the methods I use are reasonable bench marks if not "best practice".
I will still contiue to pin my hinges
Cheers,
Colin

One more answering the Ozflyer roll call.
Have a 26 acre property just south of Grafton, NSW. Fly at home sometime (have overflight permission for the neighbours property) but more often fly with Banacoast RC Flyers at Coffs Harbour.

Since I have only just seen this thread... I am a kiwi flyer (yeah sounds kinda strange
) in Christchurch. It would be good to have a common thread or something for us kiwi and oz flyers even if it is just to moan about weather, lack of availalbility of things etc....

Hey Guys,
Can certainly vouch for the fellas at Hstore. It can be hard to get alot of stuff here without driving down to Brisbane. A quick look on the website, order what you need & 9 times out of 10 it will be here in 2-3 days. Very easy to deal with on the phone, & if you ever get a chance to have a look at the store in Miranda, take a look at the size of the Cap 232 hanging from the ceiling.
Its ginormasoreass !!!!!

Just read this thread,
I just bought a trainer (thunder tiger 60) a months ago, ended up buying it from Roj hobbies in Fairfield, Melbourne.
Bought the radio gear (JR) from Hawthorn Hobbies and Bought an O.S. 61FX from Ebay in the states ($210.00 AUS Dollars Landed)
The place to research is Airborne & RCM Magazine as far as pricing goes, the best place I found for model info was here, reading the posts from other members.
Have decided I will build a kit next, waiting for a 4*60 to turn up at Rojs hobbies.
Great to see so many Aussies & New Zealanders posting !

Hi All,
I wonder where this thread will end up.
In discussing Australian Hobby Stores my expereinces living 100klm from the nearest shop that carries some hobby supplies and will occassionally do you a favour and sell you something, had forced me to extensive mail order and more recently internet order of supplies are as follows:
Frontline Hobbies in Newcastle: Very price competitive but poor range and staff that I've dealt with have only a rudimentary grasp of aircraft models and equip.
Col Taylor Models in Wagga Wagga: Amazing range, very experienced staff, great people to deal with. When I visit my son who is at RAAF base Forest Hills, I always call in to drool, chat and I always buy covering or something.
Castle Hill Hobbies in Sydney: Since it changed hands it has neither the range nor pricing it used to.
H Store in Sydney: Good range and service.
Kellets in Sydney: Good range of specialised equipment, some prices a bit expensive, good specials, staff with good knowledge but poor sales skills.
Monaro Models in Queanbeyan: Great people to deal with, helpful friendly staff.
Most recently one of the members of our club has set up a hobby business from a hangar at the airport and his car at the field. For the last year I have bought a motor, servos, and various accessories from Ivan. Great service and he is at the field!!!! It also helps when a newcomer turns up and starts to ask the usual questions Ivan can tell them exactly what a trainer package or foamy will cost
.
Cheers,
Colin

Colin,
Same situation with us, one of the guys at the club carries some hobby stuff as an extension to his diesel injector business. He keeps a reasonable amount of stuff and will get things in for you. Only thing missing is the chance to browse and, as you correctly say, drool.
Sometimes take a drive up to Lismore and take a look around North Coast Hobbies, they have a reasonable range & friendly service. Promised myself something new when I finish this work contract in August, may go up to Brisbane to see what's there these days. Anyone recommend best hobby shop in Brisbane to go browse for a new kit?
Phil,
How're you going with the Stryker? Got mine going real good now with a brushless motor and a 2200mA lipo. Really screams around the property, great for herding wallabies.
Cheers
Terry

Im doing quite well, my 1st few flights i was trying to to much wind and nosed her in a few times. That lead to a few nights gluing the nose and fuse back in place. Im ta the stage now where i can fly 4 batts thru it and not have any issues touch wood. Im loving it its so much fun to fly. It is also so much more conveinant for me because right now i dont have any time to get out to SRCS. I want to eventually go brushless but not until i am so very confident on the stock set up.
Terry do you think the skills i learn flying the stryker will be bale to be transferd to my Calmato? You know how little flying experiance ive had.
Guys 2 good stores online are Hstore and Model Flight they both have treated me well.

Phil,
Did you buy the Stryker with all the radio gear in it? (I just bought a couple of chunks of foam and stuck gear I already had in it). If so how are the sticks set up on the Tx? I set mine up (using elevon mix) as normal mode one with elevator on the left and ailerons and throttle on the right.
If yours is set up the same I would figure that if you can fly the Stryker with confidence you will be very well placed when you get back to the Calmato. If the Tx is set up differently you may have some adjustment to make, but you will still pick up a lot of basics. Sounds like you are already doing well, and the Stryker is not generally reckoned to be a beginners plane.
Hstore seems to be getting a few good raps, will need to give them a look.
Cheers

Terry,
I did buy the RTF package and up down is on the left, left right elevon is on the right but the throttle control is situated on the back of the TX. I found having it there was a tad awkward having it on the back but am used to it now. Just got home from putting thru 3 batteries thru it and the plane seems to be slowing down
Might have to go brushless faster than i anticipated.

Hi Terry,
See you're out of the big smoke and up in Gods country again. Well big river country anyhow!
Are you going to the June event at Coffs? Might see you there?
Cheers,
Colin

Colin,
Not quite out yet, I work here Monday to Thursday and fly home every Thursday night. 1st Job when I get home is to put the batteries on charge for Friday flying!
Be doing this until August, then will re-retire, at least for a while. Need to finish repairing the Corsair!
Will be at Coffs in June for sure, will look out for you.
Cheers

Hey Terry,
When you come up to Brissy, have a look at Hobbyrama. Its a big shop with a good range of gear, a little pricy compared with Hstore but not bad. Shop is split up into RC & the other side is Biante cars & plastic models. Its 2 shops side by side.
RC guys have a good knowlege of their stuff, especially Gavin Broadbent, he's a national patern team member.
Hope this helps,
Tony.

p.s. the site is down but will give you an idea of what the shop looks like.
