myfirst time I flew was when I was 15, was a precedent hiboy and had taken two years to build, not much pocket held me up there. However the instructor took it off and my heart stopped as it raced along the runway and up in the air as if it new what it was supposed to do. I felt really proud I had built my first aeroplane. I managed to do a few cicuits and a roll and a loop, but then the MDS got the better of me and quit, the instructor landed the plane just short of the runway and broke the nose wheel, that was the end of that.
But that was my first time

My first time was at age 16. In the back seat of a Chevy Mali...DOH wrong time!
That was too easy.
Actually, first solo was about 4 months ago. Super Sportster 60. Flew like a charm. I am addicted to RC now.

Primodus beat me too it. That was an easy mark!Oh well,
First time flying, Hmmmm, had to be about 1977, I was about 11, built a Falcon 56 with a ST 40 engine and a Futaba FP-6 FN radio on 72.080. Never forget that bird or the first day. Worked all night on it, flew it in the rain the next day. I was so excited! What a time!

About 3 months ago, I had been buying airplanes and
heli's for years but never flying them. Then 1 day
about 4 months ago, I came across a club website
offering training, I said what the heck, made an appointment
and flew with the instructor taking off and landing.
I was hooked, 4 lessons later I solo'd.

Yeah... some things you just never forget. First flight is one of 'em
1986... with a little red and white Skooter II with a K/B .40 and peeling K&B poxy paintjob.
I never will forget accidentally going inverted... after rolling a bit too hard out of a turn.
(No expo or dual rates on that radio... and it was setup fairly touchy, the way he liked to fly)
It was headed back upwind, perfectly straight, as if I knew what I was doing or something.
There I am, waiting for something to happen... afraid to roll or loop it upright again, but not
panic'ing, as it was doing just fine on its own. I figured it'd come back up right on the next turn
John M. (guy who taught me to fly) finally says, "You know you're inverted... right?"
Being a little bit shy with someone else's plane anyhow, I handed him back the controls... he rolls it
upright and hands the old Kraft back to me. I did better from then on. "easy movements, chris..."
I was always amazed at how well that thing was setup. It didn't seem to lose an inch, inverted.
Of course I went and bought the thing from him after that

My first flight was just over 1 year ago, March 15, 2003. I took my brand new Aerobird out to the field in about a 12 MPH wind and tossed it up in the air. Did one successful turn around the field. Ugly but landed in one piece. Went up again. While turning cross wind a huge gust came up, maybe 18 mph, and just took the plane downwind. At one point the plane was pointing at me at full power, but seemed to be going bckwards. I ditched, but never found the plane in the woods.
Got my second Aerobird the following weekend. 150+ flights on that one plus 9 other planes later and I am SOOOO hooked!
Electrics and sailplanes.
Life is good!

Gee Art we have chewed too much of the same dirt, I grew up in Paramount and North Hollywood, way back in the sixties, went to Santa Monica many times, Surfed Hunington most of my youth, and we were both Special Forces. The world is just too small

First time I flew, I had a Firebird XL. It was rather brisk Augest morning with about a 7 mile cross wind. I was as nervous as anything, and I remember when I landed/crashed it the first time... I couln't beleive I got it down in one piece.
Looking back on it, I was pretty stupid: I was flying in back of a school, with the school at one end of the field, trees one the other side, wires on the third side, and new housing on the fourth. [sm=disappointed.gif][sm=eek.gif] I realized after flying there once that it was not a good place to fly... and I want to make sure everyone knows this... I would not fly there again: just so knowone thinks that I would
But I can still remember the thrill watching it lift off.
I also remember the first time my instructor took off my Kadet... watching a winters worth of work lift off the ground: from sticks to flight. Wow but was that fun.
