I live a good 40 minutes away from a feild in Abilene Tx and i have about 2 acres at my house. I live out in the country bout five miles from an interstate and theres another farm rode by the house....An airforce base is about 15 miles from the house and planes usually fly over not low but there close so what im gettting at is it ok to fly at my house i have r/c cars and drive them out here and seem to have no problems with interferance of any kind. What do any of you think about this....thanks....Steven

from what i've read, i guess you're not supposed to fly above 500 ft if you are in the vicinity of a airport. I might be incorrect in that assumption but I read that on a notice the other day. Anyone else?

I couldnt tell you how high they are.....they are mostly B-1 Bombers and C-130s. The take off south and make a turn 180 degrees to come right over my house most of the time and usually make a turn again 180 degrees to go land at the base....they are usually lowering there gear over my house it that helps....they dont seem to be to high.

WOW! that must be loud neighborhood huh??? hehehe..... if their gear is just coming down around your house they are def. less than 10k ft, i'd say around 5 somewhere, maybe less like 3 ... not sure though, i'm not the foremost expert on military aircraft, but they are cool though!!1 hehehe

My house is in the final approach area of the local air force reserve base. The air force transports fly directly over my house.
They are less than 1000 feet up. I have flown my sailplanes and other electrics awfully close to them. So far, no one in black suits
have visited me yet. I know they can see the RC planes because they have "wing waggled" back at me.

Heck, I can hardly see my planes at 400'. I would say altitude is not your problem. The stubble is. Get a lawnmower and cut that stuff down so you can taxi on it. I have a 4 ' roller I use behind my rider every time I cut the grass. You are going to need about 200 or more feet long, by 20 - 50 ' wide area to use.

My Feedback: (3)
I read through the thread and didn't see any mention of neighbors. What's the situation there?
The reason I ask is, 2 acres is nothing, when you're flying anything that might get above 400'. If you're flying parkflyers or Lazy Bees or something light & slow, 2 acres is plenty. If you're flying a ½A glow combat plane, 2 acres with a bunch of overfly would be fine. If you're flying a .40 sport plane, you'd want that 2 acres arranged in a runway, and another 10 acres (give or take, but that seems minimal) for overfly. And if neighbors are close enough to hear that ½A combat plane, you might want to make sure they enjoy the sound.
I hope you get to fly at home, I'd sure like that! I told a guy who was visiting our tent at the local Blue Angels airshow, if he rigged a field at his house, he'd make a lot of friends among us, right away!
Good luck,
Dave Olson
