Default whats the use for real flight

hey guys,

my mom recently bought my dad G2 real flight simulator for their anniversery present. when she gave it to my dad my dad said that he would rather just learn to fly his plane. i was kinda mad because Iv wanted this software for a long time. Iv been trying to convince him that its for if you want to learn new tricks, land better, or just goof around on a rainy day. but he still wont believe me, and is going to return it tommorow. so please. i need all the help i can get to help him keep it. tell me storys about how Real Flight has saved you. or something.

I know that its my dads aniversary but i think he would enjoy it as much as i would. but doesnt know it[&o]

The biggest thing it did for me was help my instincts. For example, it helped me learn how to react when the plane is heading toward the ground fast. The skills it has taught me has saved me a few times with a real plane by not over-reacting or panicing.

Tell him crashing on real flight is free! On a more serious note real flight is ready to go at a moments notice. when its raining, snowing, blowing and dark. It will shorten the time necessary to become proficient at this hobby!

I have learned a lot from using RealFlight, and I had been flying RC for several years when I got mine.

Returning it might not be a bad idea, even if you talk your dad into using a sim. RealFlight G3 is due out next month.

Tell you dad to look at the following link:

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/Than...2279709/tm.htm

Just yesterday I was able to make three last second recoveries from almost certain total loss crashes almost without thinking thanks ENTIRELY to training on RF. I can also do stall turns, inverted turns, inverted flight, immelmanns, Cuban 8's, crosswind taildragger take-offs, and slip landings after only 5 months of (very off and on) flying thanks to about 10 minutes a day of playing with RF in the evenings.

Tell your dad that REAL MEN use simulators!

Real Flight, hm-m-m.

Taught me to how to spin, taught me to fly Knife Edge, helped me clean up my Immelmans, Split S's and Cuban Eights. All without risk to my planes, while sitting in my warm house during rainy days.

I've read a LOT of accounts here on RCU about new guys practicing on Real Flight for a number of hours, then going out to the field for their first "Buddy Box" lessons, and soloing after two or three flights. Instead of 20 or more.

I'd say it's worth having, and a very thoughtful gift.

RF helped me learn the simple stuff (just soloed a couple weeks ago..)

when a plane is coming at you... right is left and left is right...

sounds simple? not when it is happening! without learning how to "think" about my flying in RF....

I would be on...Oh....about my 4th or 5th rebuilt airplane already!!!!
Instead of still happily flying trainer!

IMHO Rf saved me Hundreds of dollars and MANY hours!

I was able to fly my Slow Stick first time out because of a sim with no assistance--from take off, right to a good landing.

I just soloed and my dad just landed his first dead stick 2 weeks ago(and we ahvent flown since) anyways my dad told me that he was gunna fly my plane, and if he crashed I could get the RF but if he didnt we had to return it.

guess what. he landed.[:'(]

lol. so now im down to the last resort. telling my mom that she gives it to me now. and i pay her off little by little

I wonder if your dad is "technically challenged" or thinks that Real Flight is just another video game. It's not. I've used mine a lot, I'm no spring chicken, (49) and it's saved me a few repairs. I've been working on rolling circles and flat spins. Can't get the sim to do a decent blender. My wife gave me mine for Christmas last year, along with a gift certificate. I think she's wonderful for thinking of my RC hobby.

G3 is supposed to have more realistic flight characteristics and better graphics. There is some discussion about it in the Flight Simulator forum.

Well, that was a slick move on your dad's part. And it looks like he's a bit of a gambler! Why don't you suggest going for 2 out of 3 landings! (And keep working on your mom!)

Tell your Dad it will do his flying the world of good. Mine improved out of sight after just a short time on G2, and it`s the greatest confidence builder you could imagine. If he does a short practice on any sequence he intends flying before going to the field, it`s really easy. Practise aerobatics first on the sim, and it`s a breeze.

I wish I`d bought mine before the aircraft.

I like the fact that when I crash, there is NO bench time. Seriously, I know I would probably still be trying to learn how to land if I hadn't trained on RF while building my LT40. I've said several times that it was the best $200 I've spent in a long time. I now have add-ons 3 and 5. My computer doesn't have the latest video cards, etc., so I've had to strip out a lot of scenery things to increase frame rate, but that's OK. By the way, add-on 5 has the Osprey, and that is a real "hoot" to fly( or TRY to fly!).

Geez, I have been flying for almost 30 years and I got it to just tink with in rainy days, winter days and when I can't go to the field. Now I see G-3 is coming out so I have to buy another one. They are more than just a toy, they help you learn, and keep skill once you have it. Great tool. Money well spent. I would reccomend it to anyone, and I never figured I would ever say that.

It`s no coincidence that full scale pilots train on simulators. Sure they`re cheaper to run, maybe a few hundred $$ an hour to run (charge out time is a lot more), but they`re a LOT cheaper than crashing!!

Same applies to RC flying. If you pay $250 for RealFlight and use it for 250 hours, that $1 an hour, and it WILL save damage and down time as a result. You can`t go flying when it`s pi$$ing down rain, snowing, or blowing 30 knots.

Can you imagine doing inverted fly bys at one foot above the runway in a real aircraft? No problem in a simulator, and if you drive it in, wait 30 secs for a reset and do it all again.

If your Dad is not convinced now, he`s never going to be, but maybe returning it and buying the G3 isn`t such a bad idea.

Darn, and I was just beginning to think that your dad was among the smartes men on Earth. I mean, tell the wife to take it back and get another gift. knowing full well that you wanted it badly. he could have talked the wife into giving it to you for christmas/birthday, or you buying it from her, and he could have gotten another gift--say, a new plane, or engine, or something. All along, he could still use the sim because YOU HAVE IT!!!. He needed to stick to his guns--he could have had his cake and eat it too!!![8D]

nitro, there`s something else you can tell your Dad. With full scale sims, generally the first time pilots fly the actual aircraft they`re training on is with passengers on board. The fidelity of simulators is that good, and after 40 hours flying the sim, the pilot is proficient on the aircraft.

Real Flight is about as good as that for model flying, minus the passengers of course.

2slow, you`re a devious thinker! I must try that in the future.
