Default RE: Pay it forward (Was freebie and free engine)

I have been looking over this "Pay it forward" forum and I think it's a great idea.

For the last three years I've been involved in setting up and running our clubs youth program. We have trainers that the kids use during the summer season and so far we've been able to offer the program to the kids for free. Seems like we are always on the lookout for donations of money or equipment to keep things running. When we're lucky enough to get some extra equipment we'll pass it on to the kids a we see the need. I won't go into all the details about the program but you can click on the links at the bottom to find out what I've been up to.

Up until this year we have only been able to run the summer flying program for the kids but a few months back we hooked up with the local EAA and got permission to use their building and we've also accumulated enough R/C stuff to start a series of building sessions for the kids this winter.

We have a few club member donated kits and a new kit from Bruce Tharpe Engineering to build this winter. I contacted Bruce at BTE and we worked out a deal on a "Flyin King" kit. I plan on using the Flyin King as our youth group's flagship, parachute drop, bomb dropper, etc, I'll be our utility plane.

All That being said I would like request That if anyone has a 91 to a 120 4-stroke that still has some life left in it and would like to donate it I would like to use it in the Flyin King. I have a few used 40's that I could use but I'm not that much into kit bashing to make a Trimotor out of the King.

If you need to check me out or get more info about our "Hawks" program look here:
http://www.amadistrictii.org/ovm/

and I've posted at the AMA District 2 forum here:
http://www.amadistrictii.org
Look under "DISTRICT II TRAINING / EDUCATION PROGRAMS"
then anything to do with the Hawks program.

UPDATE 12/07/04 - A big thank you goes out to "rayb" for his engine donation to our youth group. That was huge Ray! Thanks again.

Tim

as some of you know i am studying full time to become a paramedic and working for a volunteer fire dept as a firefighter/emt so as a student and family man money is real tight.
i am needing a couple of futaba BB servo's they dont have to be top of the range just in good shape. (i hate this i really feal like i am begging and i guess i am) but without them i will not be able to put a plane up in the air for sometime if you want some money for them i'm sure i can try to get some together for them.

I finally got up the nerve to fly my GP .20 size Cub yesterday. All went well, I got 3 flights on it, and was ringing it out on the last. I thought I might be rusty, but it all came back quick.

Anyway, I would like to know if anyone has a 6 ounce fuel tank. I have a 4 and a 10 ounce tank, I used the 4 ounce in the Cub. It was too small, I ran out of fuel on the second tank after what seemed like about 7 or 8 minutes, I didn't time it. I'll be glad to swap either one of the tanks, or both even. I night even be able to use a 8 ounce tank.

If anyone else needs the fuel tanks, they are not being used. Both have good fitting stoppers and clunks inside, ready to be installed.

By the way Spaceclam, I got the ESC, I sent you a PM too.

Keith,

Does the shape matter. I may have a flat Dubro tank lying around. I won't know for sure until way later tonight, like after 10:00pm east coast time

The shape doesn't matter to me, as long as it fits! I'll get it out tonight and measure the space in the fuselage and see what will fit.

Can the flat tank lay down, or is it meant to stan up on one edge? I know the space the tank fits into is wider than it is tall.

ORIGINAL: RC Outlaw

Some people have a need, and too proud to ask.

[8D]
Well I am one of these people but after giving a motor I don't need I decided to ask for the one I desperately need. Well.......it's like this.......I have the plans, wood, skill, radio, and the time to build a small hand launch flier. I scared myself silly the last time out flying in a seldom(not seldom enough) used industrial park and almost planting my plane in some kid learning to drives windshield. So I would like to lay hands on a Norvel/TT .061-15 size is more important than mfr. Beggars can't be choosy! *LOL*

Ok, I just got the plane out and measured the space for the fuel tank. There is room for a tank about 2 inches tall, 2.5 inches wide, and up to about 4 inches long. That's leaving room for foam rubber around the outsides too. The engine is a Fox .19 from the '80s, I think it should be happy with 6 ounces of fuel, but if an 8 ounce tank will fit, I guess I'll ahve a little reserve on hand. Whatever will work is fine. Thanks!

Space,
Don't sweat it......I'm a retired disabled sailor living from paycheck to paycheck and I can still find something to give. There's others out there who will help....just give them time. And, in the meanstwhile, I'm looking into my dusty cellar of toys! *LOL*

Ok,

It's my turn now.

I am not looking for a freebie but am in need of a YS110 or YS140. Backorders for YS are not going to be completely filled this time and it is looking like it could be March or April of next year [X(] until the ones I have on order get shipped.

If anyone has either one of these and is wishing to part with it at a fair price, PM me. I have added it to my RCU wish list and a wanted ad also. but I thought I would post it hear also. OPM, Central Hobbies and all the others did not get enough to fill their backorders either.

Now I know the ones that own YS engines usually do not want to part with them, BUT....

i only have one and i am unable to part with it due to the fact that it powers my primary source of fun, (i only have two operable planes) but if you really wanted to, you could buy them piece by piece, and put it together. it would most likely cost $400 or so, but it is an option....if budget permits.

Space,

Ah, come on, you know you really want to sell me that engine just kidding

I'd rather have the whole thing right away. 3 months waiting already is getting to be old and add another 3 months to that if Horizon Distributing didn't get enough to fill the backorders which it sounds as though they didn't. I know Great Planes also has them backordered and as with Horizon and Tower, they keep moving the dates back. Towers web site did say early DEC now it says mid DEC.

Some people have the 140 in limited amounts so I may go that route. I was just hoping for a good used one of either size. The 140 (new) is a little more than I want to spend right now and the engine will be going into both planes inverted and YS engines are great for inverted mounting do to the pump and regulator being built in as well as being supercharged

the reason they are so backordered is that ys can't produce enough. accordig to performance specialties, there wont be another shipment until march-april.

I know, I called YS, Horizon, Tower, GP, and a host of others. I am aware of the YS production issues and can understand. I am not trying to trash them as I do love the engines. I am simply bummed that I have had one on order for 3 months and I now find out that it's going to be 3 more months and am worried now that they still might not be able to fill all the backorders at that time.
