SUCCESS! I tapped mine today the same way you did mike... but mine came with a little nut that i secured to the back of it.... don't ask how i got a small pair of needle nose in there to wrench it down... it was tough, but now its on rock solid! theres no way that suckers comming off. Also plumbed a 14 oz'er and secured it in the fuse... so now all i gotta do is hook up the unit when it gets here!
Another guy at the hobby shop told me today that he uses this concrete form oil for smoke... i went all over town looking for it, and after i went to 3 different places (and they kept sending me to other places) I found it, but i'm not sure if it was the exact kind the guy was talking about... it was 18$ a gallon.... the other friend that says he runs texaco almac- said it was like 30-40$ for a 5 gallon.... anyway so i haven't tracked that stuff down yet though... is everyone using super-dri? that stuff is so expensive

hey Mike, I picked up a washer fluid pump at Kragens then I read your post about radio interference with some of those. Lol So I'm gonna take it back tomorrow, instead I ended up ordering this one from HobbyTown USA.

It looks like it should do the trick & it's pretty inexpensive.

That is a field pump and will also give off interference. That is not made for inside your plane its made to put smoke fluid in your plane and it is 12 volts!!

i think that the pump you got is to fill the tank in the plane not to pump the oil to the muffler.
it says 12volts field pump. i can't see using 12v packs inside the plane. i could be wrong, i've never used smoke. i'm waiting to see video of a 4 stroke with smoke b4 i do it to my areoworks edge with a saito 100.

yeah, but keep it cause the fuel bulbs are a pain anyway... depends on how big your tank is....

No problem, I still have the other pump like Mike's & I can use the field pump & a fuel dot to fill the smoke tank with.
Trial & error!
Sooner or later it will Smoke!! Let's just hope that doesn't include Flames too.[sm=surprised.gif]

erikpmort, It's a Saito 100 that I'm trying to smoke too. I'm using MinnFlyer's system, he's has great success with it. Not to mention very patient & helpful walking me thru it. I'll definitely let ya know how it comes out. I hooked up the little pump from Kragens that looks just like the one Mike showed me to a little 2cell lipo I have sitting on the shelf & it started pumping away, pretty smooth & quiet too. I thought about trying one of speedy's manifolds but I need the elbow that my stock pipe has so I just tapped it instead. Good luck with yours. I'm gonna check out that video of the 1.20 you mentioned.

Congrats on your smoker Mods. I got that pump in the mail today & as luck would have it, the first thing I saw on the packaging was "will run on 6 or 12 volts! So I'm gonna put power to each of them sitting inside the plane & check for interference, if I don't get any, this pump will work great & fit alot easier. [8D]

Hey another question guys:
assuming i run a 3 line smoke tank, 1 line to the muffler, 1 line to fill, and 1 line to vent, when i'm flying, do i just leave the vent line unplugged exiting the bottom of the model, or what? will smoke go all over the place when i go inverted? how does that work?

You are correct. I leave both the fill and vent out the bottom and I don't plug either of them. Very little - if any - will leak out
BTW, have you fill line so it goes to the bottom of the tank. There may be times when Murphy strikes and you'll need to use that line for emptying
