Well im back again, this time ive fixed my fuel tank problem and bought 2 quarts of towerpower 10% for my .46 TowerHobbes engine... well lol, it still wont run.. if i prime the carb it will run for 30-40 seconds at full throttle, nothing but full... after that it will simply slow down then stop, ive adjusted the needle valve 4 1/2 out, 3 1/2 out, and all around inbetween, if anyone has a manual for this engine that would be nice too! So any info. you can give me? I've included a pic of the carb setup below, there is only one screw on the other side and its right above the linkage for the throttle servo, its all the way in...

.46 is the only engine on towers site w/o a manual, lol my luck...

I also noticed that when the engine quits all the lines fill up with air immediatly and i have to re prime the fuel and let it run for 10 seconds before any fuel enters the engine, after that i dunno :S

Have you checked that fuel will flow through the needle valve assembly?? sometimes crap gets blocked in there. Unscrew the needle valve all the way out and remove it . Hook up your fuel pump to the fuel intake for the needle valve pump a little bit of fuel through it. You should see it coming out where the needle valve was. Make sure there is nothing on the needle valve itself too. Put it back together and try it again.

Also, instead of "priming" the carb by putting fuel into the air intake try this. WITH THE GLOW STARTER REMOVED, open the throttle to full, place you finger over the air intake on the carb, turn the prop counter-clockwise, each time you turn over through the compression you should see fuel moving up the fuel tubing, keep turning until you see fuel actually going into the carb, turn it over 3-4 more time, remove your finger from the carb, turn it over 3-4 more times, move the throttle to idle, place the glow starting on the glow plug, and start the motor. Priming the motor this way will ensure that is actually drawing fuel through the fuel system, and there will be no lag after the motor starts.

anyone know where i can i find the low end adjusment for this particular engine?

it is either an airbleed screw on the opposite side from the fuel intake on the carb or a screw inside the throttle body assembly. if it is in the throttle body it is in the center. turning right makes it leaner and left richer. if air bleed it is opposite

btw: that screw was 3/4 of a turn all the way in

Your low end adjustment is in the center of the throttle control arm. If you look in there you will see a SMALL slot. That is the end of the low end needle.

FWIW - Seal the backplate and the carb o-ring with some silicone. Tower 46 engines are well known for air leaks at those 2 locations.

Also, Is it smoky when it turns off or not? 3.5 out sounds a little too rich even for a new engine. Some of mine won't run that rich

I moved the low idle adjusment in, not out and it RAN!!

It seems a little smokey, but i thought that was normal, how much smoke is if even normal?

still seems a little rich, not really sure, im use to working on 2-cycles but, yea this is a lot different

i adjusted alittle and the transition from low to high is smooth, even though i dont think its peak RPM

i will have to take the tank back out of the fuse, for i forgot which one of the lines is the correct one.. OOPS

Just put 2-3 ounces of fuel in. Then try to draw it out. If it come out, that is the clunk line. If it does not come out, that is the vent/pressure line (based on a 2 line system). Actually, if you accidentally try to fill thru the vent line, in a 2 line system, it will quickly force fuel out the other line even though the tank is far from full.

I was gonna suggest to you that you carefully adjust that idle needle, making only like 1/8 turns on the thing at a time but it sounds like you found the culprit. I had the same issue with an Evolution 40 that I have, spent some time adjusting the idle and it runs real sweet now.

Well got a little taxing done today, ran good most of the time, still needs lots of adjustment for transition from high to low... found out today what a prop and finger contact feels like . For those that dont know the feeling, your lucky! It was just a back fire, threw the chicken stick outta my hand and nailed my finger. Owwie[]

Now you know why we use electric starters too.

Can't afford one atm , got my batteries in my digital camera charged ready to take those ausome carnage shots. lol

Got a few more hours in the sim now, can land pretty smoothly everytime now!
