Hello everyone, I am new to the message boards here and have a question id like to ask. I am kinda stuck at the moment on something so here it is.
I have been flying model airplnes on and off for about 20 years, I had my first at age 11, solid foam type plane flew it till it ran out of gas then coasted in wasnt much around that you could take off and land then. also have flown a sturdy birdy have had 2 or 3 of them, then got out of the hobby for awhile about 2 years now due to the flying site I went too wasnt doing too well at the time, now some friends of mine have there own flying site that I can go and begin to enjoy myself quit a bit, but atm I only have a few planes one is a hanger 9 super stick 40, which from what I can remember was a pretty nimble little fella other is a GP decathalon 40 not put together yet it is this winters project. and a J3 cub dont know it make was given too me is close to finished but needs some things reworked.
that was too give a little idea of my flying history on planes I have had, now my question I am a little nervous as to fly my hanger 9 stick for I am afraid my skills are rusty and ill put it in the ground, Would it be better for me to start out with a trainer again and work myself back up or do you guys think I will be able to remember things when get in the air, kind of a risky chance there I think but I was wondering, I have had people to tell me I would be fine with the hanger 9, Even though a trainer is a great plane to have just to enjoy a nice evening of flying when not wanting to burn up the skys. Now I have a place to fly I want to start working towards the planes I have been wanting for years, which are fw190-d9, and a B17 both done in scale, I hope to maybe be able to get in some scale competitions in a few years.
Thanks for reading my rambling

Sometimes, if you haven't flown for a time, and
feel a little rusty....or other times when it's a
windy or nasty at the field and you don't want
to risk one of your good planes....it's nice to
have that easy flyin' plane to have some fun
with.
Dave.

I hope that you aren't planning on trying it alone right off are you? In that case I would say almost any plane will get you in trouble until tou get used to things again. You said that your friends own the field. Would one of them be willing to hook up their transmitter as a buddy box for a couple of flights for you? IF so, the H9 mechanically set to lower rates will probably work fine as the stick can land fairly slow. I say mechanically because dual rates don't work on the buddy box system. The buddy box will go to high rate right away. The other 2 planes that you have won't work as well. Best of luck, Fast!

Heyas, thanks for the replys and yes I will have someone to help me get going again. Not going to solo for a few flights till get use to it. I was lucky when I started I had a instructor to help me get going and was turned loose to solo after my third lesson at the field. Also to that at the flying field I use to goto it was very long grass runway on top of a knoll so had pretty of room for error at the new field my friends have runway is considerably shorter and room for error is much less.
I also appreciate the replys very much, Mostly what I have built have been arfs as will my next trainer * going to get this friday * unless hobbyshop is sold out. and hope to have it ready to go flying next week sometime.
I will have several questions I am sure when I start building the decathalon this winter.
Thanks

Slap a Spad together, go fly the piss out of it and beat it all up for little to nothing money wise...then you'll have your reactions back and the confidence to build and fly your dreams!!!

I don't know which trainer your eyeing but the Kadet LT-40 ARF by SIG is by far the best trainer I've ever had a hold of. It definitely would be at the top of my list of trainers for what it's worth. The US 40 is a docile plane also but I wouldn't recommend it to take the rust off of my flying for sure. Hope this helps!!

Ok,
ended up with a hobbico ARF trainer, was looking for a sig but wasnt one at local hobby shop and this one came highly recomended by some flyers that was there, only advice was given was to run a bead of epoxy around the firewall for safety one guy said flying one day during a x wind his firewall came loose.
Thanks for replys
Hope to be in the air soon

I just soloed with an Hobbico Avistar. The Avistar has a semi symmetrical airfoil that will (hopefully) allow the plane to do more than a trainer with a flat bottom wing. My instructor saved my plane many times but the time I spent on the simulator (G2) was a tremendous help!

Thank You.
This forum is Great, thanks to the fine people here I have learned a lot in a very short time.
If this forum, G2 and Instructors had existed when I first tried this hobby I would have been flying for a long time... a very long time.

Flyin-low, which Hobbico trainer did you get? I bought an Avistar about 6 weeks ago, soloed for the first time last week. I've found it to be a nice easy plane to learn on. The G2 has been a HUGE help. I usually log at least a half-dozen takeoffs and landings every day.

I hadn't flow for 2 years, then only flew 1 season and it was 3-4 years prior to that that I really flew. The First plane I flew in 2 years was a Sig Cap231.
I picked up a Hobico Avistar the other day, so I can teach some people. I flew it this weekend for the first time. It was a fun little plane. inverted flight needed a little down, rolls were fairly quick, Pretty sloppy spins and snaps. Not sre if I would even call them snaps. But Cuban 8s, even knife edge with a lot of ail. to hold it. This thing will roll real easy on just rudder. Almost got a few tailslides with the help of the wind. The little OS 40LA pulled it quite nicely. A 46fx and this could be a real fun plane.

Heyas Mystic6,
I purchased a hobbico Superstar was only trainer available at my lhs, It came highly recommended by quite a few people. I have enjoyed putting it together It is an arf but works well for me to get something in the air on my spare time, It has been fun to put together, I am thinking of getting a GP Ultra Sport 40 next with retracts for winter project instead of working on the Decathalon I have, since I have read quite a few bad things on it, still going to build it soon though anyways.

Glad your havin fun with the cap, Just going to take my time getting back started, I want to get into some scale building my self, with a little bit of arabatics. I enjoy watching them I have my eyes on a extra 300 one day in a few months.
